Chapter 23: 23. You don't need to say thank you

It was the day of the second task.

I was thanking God, Merlin, or whoever was in charge of this reality, for the cold weather.

Fleur was wearing a swimsuit, her legs were long and toned, her butt was moderate but well-shaped, as was her slender body, with small pear-shaped breasts giving the swimsuit some curves. I wasn't the only one thanking the cold at that moment.

I tried, really hard, but I still stole a few glances at the French girl, who caught me doing it once, and just raised her eyebrow and laughed at the situation. I started to think about the spells at my disposal.

It was a way to take my eyes off the blonde, and not look like those hungry people drooling in the stands. She may seem very sure of herself, but I can see how she's a little uncomfortable with it. I realized that she didn't mind people looking, but the way they looked.

Those like me, who were looking at it with admiration, while others, many others, just saw a juicy piece of meat, which they would love to put in their mouths.

Trying once again to get out of those thoughts, I returned to the task and my options.

Partial transformation, but nothing like Krum would do. It was more of a copy of what Gillyweed would do, giving me duck feet and hands, and gills to breathe underwater. I could hold the transformation for up to 1:30 hours, more than that could cause problems.

It would also depend on my use of magic during the task. To last that long, I need to maintain the transfiguration through my magic, but if by any chance I end up with a lot of problems down there, I know that this would greatly reduce the time.

The next option would be to swallow the gillyweed itself, but he would need a good handful, so that he could stay within the stipulated 1 hour of the test. From what I could study from Snape's cabinets, he only had enough for 30 to 45 minutes.

I could ask Lupin or Dobby to buy it, but it wasn't worth it.

The third option, runes. Transfigure something into a diving mask, and put runes on it to convert the water into oxygen. It's not a difficult thing, but if I lost the mask for any apparent reason, it would be a big problem.

I'm pulled from my thoughts by the sound of the cannon.

I see Fleur and Cedric casting their bubble head spells, while Krum jumps straight into the water. As for me, I take a few steps back, giving a good distance of 3 meters to the edge of the platform. I had a plan.

With a few movements of my wand, I tap the tip of the wand on the top of my head, "pars mutatio", I whisper the incantation. Within seconds, I feel the gap between my toes and fingers begin to tingle.

My throat started to burn, so I felt it was time. Running as fast as I could, I jumped forward as if I were going to dive into the water, but I held my wand even tighter, pointing forward.

I "rose" and felt the jolt, which in the middle of the jump, threw me a good distance, almost halfway to the center of the lake.

As soon as I sank into the water, taking advantage of the momentum that my body still had, I swam as fast as I could to find the merpeople's village.

To be quite honest, it wasn't difficult, since the village is basically next to the Giant Squid, which basically protects the merpeople and their homes.

My inner Harry Potter, being the nobleman that he is, made me wait, while I was concerned about the well-being of the hostages.

Hermione looked like a wax doll, stuck with only her hair dangling in the water. Next to her, little Gabrielle, Fleur's sister. I didn't know her, but I remember her from the movies, and it was the same girl. Next to her, Cho, and then came a boy with a patchy, shallow beard, wearing heavy winter clothes.

As an instinct, I sense the danger behind me, and with my hands and flippers, I dodge, for a half-shark, half-human, to bite the plant that tied his friend's leg. He just holds her hand, and without a second glance, he walks away while taking his friend.

A little later, Cedric arrives, who quickly releases Cho and grabs her by the arm. He signals me, tapping his wand on the watch on his wrist. After confirming that I understood, he leaves, and I remain there.

I see the Giant Squid stretch one of its tentacles, and a pair of merpeople advance in the same direction. Not wanting to waste any more time, I let go of Gabrielle and Hermione, which makes one of the merpeople advance angrily towards me.

"Just one," he says.

"The test is ending, your sister won't make it in time," I explain, with the merperson looking at me for a while, and then, shrugging, he walks away.

I find his action a little strange, so I put my wand back in its holster, and start to take Gabrielle and Hermione to the surface. In the meantime, I keep an eye out, looking for grindylows that might try to disturb me, or Fleur, who might arrive.

But then my eyes see Fleur. She was lying on the seaweed floor, surrounded by two merpeople, with one of them keeping his hand on her chest, while the other, with the help of the Giant Squid's tentacle, kept the annoying grindylows away.

I push the two girls in my arms up into the air and pull out my wand. "Supernatet" pointing at the pair, casting the spell. I see the two girls rising, and knowing that the spell was fine, I turn my attention to Fleur.

I start diving, and even with the advantages of my transformation, something was worrying me a lot. "Ascend" I point my wand in Fleur's direction, and receive the boost, going much faster towards the girl.

"Torpet Inpulsa" I cast towards the grindylows, being very careful not to hit the merman or the squid's tentacle. Seeing them move away, I speak to the merman who kept his hand on Fleur's chest.

"What happened to her?" I ask the merman worriedly.

"Grindylows hit her hard, the squid kept them away and we came as fast as possible. I've been keeping her stable, but she needs to get back to the surface." he explains.

"Put her on my back, I'll be there in a few seconds." I say, and turn around. Soon, I receive Fleur's body, and point my wand towards the surface. "Ascend."

As soon as I reach the surface, I notice that Fleur remains unconscious, and her breathing has not restarted. 'She seems to have drowned, and the merman kept her alive somehow.' I think, once again, using ascendio towards the platform.

As soon as we land, with her falling on me hard, I lay her down on the ground, and begin to try to revive the girl. CPR, followed by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

After a few moments, at the same time that Madame Pomfrey approaches, Fleur spits out a good amount of water, while breathing heavily.
