Chapter 26: 26. Preparing for the last task
The Hogwarts Room of Requirement was, as usual, full.
This time, in addition to the usual group of Hogwarts students, there were guests from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
Fleur was with her sister, while Viktor was next to his friend with a complicated name. Viktor was showing us some not-so-friendly spells, Fleur about her incredible ability to create runes of various types, with her Veela part having a kind of attunement with magic, giving her an advantage in creating these runes.
How this works, God or Merlin knows, but she really seems to have some kind of gift for it, and I will not belittle her abilities. She was surrounded by Hermione, Luna, Susan and Ginny.
Gabrielle was accompanying Hanna who was casting spells against Neville, whose objective was to defend himself only. Gabrielle knew some good spells too.
Meanwhile, I was thinking about the possibilities that would give me some advantage in the inevitable fight against Volds, as well as a way to save Cedric's life, while he is also in the cemetery.
I seriously thought about stunning him before taking the cup, but his death is what makes the wizarding population have a shred of doubt, while I will be slandered by the Ministry and its corrupt minister.
But in the meantime, my friendship with Cedric has grown, and I know that I will have at least one strong ally if he survives.
I was scratching my head in frustration, thinking about the best way to act, when I felt someone close, sitting next to me on the couch.
"Thinking too much will not give you the answer, Harry. Just do what your heart believes is right, and things will work out." The voice was dreamy, and when I looked to the side, I saw Luna, with those bright and unfocused eyes staring at me very seriously.
"I know, Luna, the problem isn't doing it, but how to do it..." I say, a little frustrated with myself.
"Too complex can go wrong, but if it's simple, it can be safer." She says with a smile, standing up. "Some people need to see it to believe it, others believe what they see, there's a big difference in that." After finishing speaking, she starts to walk away.
"Luna!" I call, making the girl look at me with a smile. "Do you think my father would be interested in writing an article for The Quibbler? Colin knows how to take some amazing photos, and you're very good at expressing the facts." I tell the girl, but my call to her also makes the others look at me strangely.
"Of course, Harry Potter, friends always help friends." She answers dreamily. "I think Susan has very good friends too." She gives me a smile, and I swear to Merlin, I saw a wink from the girl.
With a smile, I grab ink, quill and a piece of parchment, and start writing quickly. Once I'm done, I quickly fold the parchment. "Dobby," I call to my hyperactive friend. "Give this to the butler." I hand over the paper, and rub the top of the elf's head, who disappears with an excited look.
"What's going on, Harry?" Cedric approaches with the others, curious glances shining in my direction.
"My friend Luna, the most chaotic mind I know, gave me a complex but simple idea. I will need the help of all of you, but I need it to be a secret, told only to those I will indicate, if they so wish.
If any of you are not confident or willing, I ask that you please leave the room for a few minutes, when you are finished, I will call you back. But if you stay, I want you to make a magical vow not to spread this information around, at least not deliberately." I looked seriously at the group.
As expected, Viktor and his friend waved, leaving the place. I know he was not against me, just that he did not want to get involved.
I watched as the others quickly raised their wands, making their oaths with no way to escape the information they would hear.
"What I am going to tell you is a secret that I have been carrying for a long time. Although it is not literal, with some already guessing the truth." I take a deep breath, while the group has their attention fixed on me. "Voldemort is not dead, and to make matters worse, he is about to return." I say, taking most of them by surprise.
"Harry, as much as I want to believe, but that is impossible." Cedric says, more to himself, trying not to believe, than to me directly.
"Just as it is impossible for anyone to survive the killing curse." I tease, pointing to my face. "I know I am amazing, but impossible..." I finish the teasing.
"Modest too, as we can see." Hermione retorts, with me giving her an indignant look, which eased the tense atmosphere a little.
"Okay, let's be serious again. I've been having dreams, visions, whatever. Voldemort is weakened, and being helped by a teacher from this school, who is in disguise. I know this has put us all in danger, but he has always been very cautious.
His actions, from what I understand, are no different from his original, which makes it difficult to accuse him, just with the evidence I have." I say, showing everyone a large folded piece of parchment.
"Was this the map my brothers used to find the secret passages in the school?" Ginny quickly recognizes the map.
"Yes, this map was created by my father and his friends. There is a charm that shows the name of the person and the location where they are. I know the name of the person who is pretending to be Alastor Moody, but that is the least important thing here.
With Voldemort's imminent return, we need to prepare ourselves, and as everyone here knows, our minister is a corrupt, shitty coward, and I am absolutely certain that he will try everything to cover up the return of someone who will put fear back into everyday life.
I have a plan, it seems complex, but it is simple in its essence. I want people in positions of power, in addition to the press, who, upon discovering the truth, will keep our minister in check, and allow us to prepare to fight." I explain the beginning of my plan.
"So asking Luna to put The Quibbler on the scene is the media's part?" asks Susan.
"Actually, there is The Prophet too, and I am going to extend a personal invitation to a certain reporter. People may not like her, but she knows what to write, and she writes well. Besides, it is a certainty that the Minister, in his immense wisdom, will try to silence the truth." I explain.
"You want to use The Prophet to divert attention from The Quibbler, very good Harry." Hermione praises, a little proudly even.
"Yes, but having some people, let's say a certain Head of the Auror Department, with some trusted Aurors, to arrest the impostor teacher, would be extremely useful. Having, perhaps, a father with foreign influence, who by chance, brought the press from another country, to cover the tournament final, and not having our Minister to intervene in the truth..." I let the ideas fly.
"Arry Potter, being your friend was my best choice. You are quite cunning like those from the House of Snakes." Fleur says.
"Well, the hat's first choice was to put me in Slytherin, but I asked for any other house, and it put me in Gryffindor." I answer a little embarrassed.
