Naruto: Assistant to the Hokage

Chapter 32: Chapter 29 - Danzo, you don't mind, do you?

"Sarutobi, you promised me..."

Shimura Danzo's eyes were cloudy, staring dead at Sarutobi, who was sitting leisurely in Hokage's office chair, an old friend trying to steal someone from his own hands.

This hypocritical old bastard, clearly promised himself before that he wouldn't transfer Akihara Kagura away from Root, now what kind of attitude is this!

Sarutobi didn't even have to take the initiative to ask for it at all, as if he didn't mean it at all, yet the words were declaring that Kagura's Wood release had an important use, and that the two Hokage advisors would naturally support him.

After all, Sarutobi was Hokage...

He himself was just a Hokage Aide who helped him do his dirty work!

"Everything is for Konoha's sake!"

Homura shot a glance at Danzo, knowing his old friend, he also opened his mouth to persuade him, "For the sake of the village's future interests, we can only temporarily sacrifice the combat power of the Root... what was it that Sarutobi promised you?"

"I promised Danzo that I wouldn't transfer that boy out of the Root Section."

Sarutobi let go of his pipe and let out a long sigh, "Although it might delay that child's growth and affect the village's general situation, especially at a time when Konoha is in trouble both internally and externally, it's not good for me to break my promise..."

"Sarutobi."

Homura immediately interrupted The Hokage and said in a deep voice, "Have you forgotten the promise you made to the village when you became Hokage? What else is more important than the promise to protect Konoha? That child's Wood release can protect Konoha!"

"..."

Hypocrisy! What hypocrisy!

Danzo gave Sarutobi a deadly stare.

Monkey ! old bastard wasn't even trying to keep his promise!

Homura had fallen for it, and so had Koharu, both Hokage advisors had been fooled by this old bastard of a monkey, who couldn't have been more of a hypocrite!

However...

The situation at hand was three against one.

There was no way for Shimura Danzo to raise any objections at all.

"Danzo..."

Sarutobi noticed Danzo, who had an ugly look on his face, and spoke gently, "It looks like I'll have to break my promise."

As he said this, Sarutobi even asked one more question rather democratically, "You shouldn't mind if I transfer that child over, right?"

"..."

Shimura Danzo's face grimaced.

You assholes should have known that I would definitely mind if you thought about it with your own brain...

It's just that this kind of thing is still up to you?

However, thinking of Kagura's Wood ninjitsu talent, Shimura still couldn't help but mention one more thing: "That child has long since been groomed to become a killing machine... perhaps it would be best to let him stay in the Root programme."

Shimura Danzo glanced back at the screen displaying the Death Forest Examination Center and said in a cold voice, "The darkness in that child's heart is too deep, and his actions are too extreme, if I hadn't ordered him not to be in the position to kill at random, that child would have made this Chunin Examination a bloodbath."

"Oh?"

The two Hokage advisors looked at Danzo with slight novelty.

Homaru seemed to have seen something unbelievable, like he was looking at a liar, "Danzo, you stopped that kid from killing..."

You stopped that kid from killing?

How can you say something like that?

Is there anyone in this world who does things more extreme than you?

We're all old friends here. Who doesn't know how you raise your children?

Danzo, who likes to gather a group of children together and raise them, then force them to kill each other and train them to become killing tools from a young age, would stop a child from killing?

"Well."

"Since Danzo said so..."

Sarutobi resumed his pipe, nodded his head, and said, "It seems we can only arrange for this child to be placed into the Anbu first?"

"..."

Danzo gritted his teeth.

This old bastard could whether or not he was listening to himself!

Had to be transferred to your Anbu division?

Couldn't you just let the kid stay in the Root Division?

The point of what he said was that the kid only takes orders from himself, it wasn't even a question of which department the kid should be placed in!

Monkey, the ambiguous old bastard, has already defaulted to one outcome first, Kagura must be transferred right?

"After the Chunin exams are over, have him report to the Anbu Sections."

Sarutobi pretended not to have heard Danzo's meaning, and took the first opportunity to finalize the result, dryly giving the order.

"Wait..."

Shimura Danzo hastily opened his mouth to try to make another comment.

Sarutobi looked at Danzo and continued, "As compensation for Root's combat strength, you can pick two competent men in the village properly."

"..."

Shimura Danzo was speechless.

What could compare to that Akihara Kagura kid?

Not to mention that he himself was a Hokage Auxiliary, if he wanted to draw manpower from those lesser ninja clans to enter the Root Ministry, wouldn't those lesser ninja clans dare to refuse?

Shimura Danzo squeezed his cane with a deadly grip.

If this old bastard wasn't Hokage, Danzo couldn't wait to raise the cane in his hand and slam it heavily on Sarutobi's unwanted old face.

"No one has any objections, so let's decide that for now!"

Sarutobi slowly picked up his pipe again and continued to look at the screen, "Let's continue to see if there are any other outstanding kids in this session of the Chunin Exams..."

"Huh?"

Sarutobi felt Shimura staring at him again.

However, by the time Sarutobi looked back, he realized that Shimura Danzo was also staring at the screen showing the Chunin Exam.

It seemed that Danzo should still be hating him for breaking his promise, and that's why he would sneakily stare at him from time to time, to which Sarutobi just laughed.

This old friend...

Still so timid...

Surprisingly, he didn't even dare to meet his eyes openly.

Death Forest Examination Center.

The huge wooden dragon slowly wandered overhead.

Kagura stood above the head of the wooden dragon, using [Ninja's Darkness] to spy on the situation inside the Naruto Building, the teenager had already learned ahead of time that he would be transferred to the Anbu Division.

After all...

This was also Akihara Kagura's original intention.

Because staying in the Root Ministry gave him so little free time, constantly under the surveillance of Shimura Danzo and the members of the Root Ministry, at least he would have some breathing room in the Anbu.

And most importantly...

The Anbu was an organization that had a more complete structure than the Root.

While the Root Division only had Shimura Danzo as a superior, the Anbu Division had a sub-captain, a captain, and a chief captain, so there were more benefits to be had in the Anbu Division.

What's more...

Who said that when one stayed in the Anbu and served Hokage-sama, one could not continue to serve Danzo-sama? One could still continue to serve Orochimaru-sama!

"Look up there... what's that?"

Along with the wooden dragon's swimming, a shout came from time to time from within the Forest of Death, and a touch of fear hung on the face of every Ninja examinee who looked up and saw the wooden dragon.

Why is this Chunin Exam so exciting?

How could something like this pop up just at the beginning!

"Greetings..."

A teenager's voice came out from the wooden dragon.

Kagura maneuvered the wooden dragon and slowly moved it down, its head hovering in front of a small team, its massive head bigger than three people combined.

Kagura sized up the three men and spoke slowly, "Three of you, can you hand over what I need? Lord Danzo said that I'm not allowed to kill random people, and I'm guessing you wouldn't want me to disobey Lord Danzo's orders, would you?"

"What do you need?"

One of the taller ninjas at the head of the group was obviously very knowledgeable and took the initiative to speak up, "Our scrolls might be the same as yours..."

"Doesn't matter."

The teenager cocked his own head and said softly, "In this Forest of Death, scrolls are truly hard currency, more useful than money, and who would mind having more money than they have?"
