Chapter 121: Chapter 123
Kirito's sharp gaze swept over the Genin in the room, ignoring the nameless extras and the minor players.
Rain and Taki ninjas were dismissed immediately. The Kusa ninja drew a bit more attention, particularly Kabuto Yakushi, who was disguised as a Hidden Grass ninja, and Karin Uzumaki, a young girl with no bite marks yet on her body.
Kirito thought back to his previous life and realized Karin's mother had likely already perished, drained by Kusagakure's methods. Perhaps later, I'll hand her over to Tsunade for proper training, he thought. He smirked at the idea of Sasuke managing without Karin as his "power bank" in the future. Then again, with his protagonist's aura, the Sage of Six Paths watching over him, and me as his stepfather, he'll manage somehow.
Next, his attention shifted to the Sound Ninja Trio: Dosu Kinuta, Zaku Abumi, and Kin Tsuchi. More importantly, Kirito noted Jirōbō and Sakon—the sacrifices prepared by Orochimaru for the Impure World Reincarnation of the First and Second Hokage.
Kirito silently scoffed. Orochimaru sure exaggerated the strength of the Third Hokage. Using such weak sacrifices and an immature form of Impure World Reincarnation, the resurrected Hokage couldn't even fight at full strength.
The Sand siblings were no surprise. Kirito had already evaluated Gaara, Kankurō, and Temari earlier.
Finally, his attention settled on Konoha's Genin. Team 7—Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura—had just walked in. Beyond them, there were other noteworthy names: Akimichi Chōji, Yamanaka Ino, Hyūga Neji, Rock Lee, Tenten, Aburame Shino, Inuzuka Kiba, and Hyūga Hinata.
Kirito's gaze lingered momentarily on Hinata, and memories of their past interaction during her childhood surfaced. A faint smile tugged at his lips. She was shy as ever, but there was an unmistakable strength in her aura now—on par with Neji.
Hinata, sensing someone watching her, turned toward Kirito. Seeing his Rain Village uniform and unfamiliar appearance, she tilted her head in confusion. Why does that Rain ninja feel so familiar?
Both Kabuto and Orochimaru noticed Kirito's gaze. Though disguised, they instantly recognized him. Their shared glance revealed mutual unease.
Orochimaru, seated behind Kirito, spoke in a high-pitched, feminine voice—evidence of his current female host. "Kirito-kun, I never expected to see you here. And this must be Amane. Who's your friend?" He gestured subtly toward Itachi, disguised as Raiun.
Kirito smiled faintly. "Just an intern. The leader sent him along to gain experience."
Raiun kept his head down, arms crossed, masking his face and emotions.
Orochimaru's eyes glinted with suspicion. "Interesting. And what brings you here to this Chunin Exam, Kirito-kun?"
"You're here too, aren't you?" Kirito deflected smoothly.
"I came to assess whether Sasuke is suitable to be my vessel. Surely, Kirito-kun, you won't interfere with our agreement?"
"Not at all," Kirito said, his tone even. "Just don't touch the Jinchūriki."
As the conversation concluded, Naruto broke the tense silence in the examination room by loudly declaring, "I'm Uzumaki Naruto, and I'll beat every one of you!"
The entire room erupted in hostile murmurs and laughter at Naruto's bravado.
Suddenly, a puff of smoke burst onto the podium as Morino Ibiki and the examiners made their dramatic entrance. The first round of the Chunin Exam had officially begun.
The written portion of the exam was deceptively challenging. It featured nine questions designed to test intelligence and teamwork. Candidates were expected to cheat subtly without being caught. The true test lay in the final question, which assessed the Genin's resolve and cohesion.
Raiun, Amane, and Kirito had no trouble with the test. While Raiun and Amane completed their papers flawlessly, Kirito casually leaned back, observing the room. Naruto, oblivious to the questions, struggled until he inspired himself and others with his usual indomitable determination.
By the end, many teams had been eliminated. Only 26 teams—78 individuals—remained, including Kirito's team.
Just as relief set in, a black bundle smashed through the classroom window, unfurling into a banner. Mitarashi Anko made her over-the-top entrance, introducing herself as the proctor for the second exam.
Kirito observed Anko quietly, his lips twitching into a faint smirk. Her short lavender hair, fishnet attire, and beige trench coat gave her a commanding yet alluring presence. How did such a striking woman turn into the disheveled figure we see in Boruto? he mused.
As the Genin groaned at Anko's theatrics, Kirito rose from his seat, ready for the next stage of the exam.
