Chapter 144: Chapter 142: Absolute Freedom

Chapter 142: Absolute Freedom

Dust Release: Limited Separation Technique.

Shhh—shhh—shhh—

A series of blinding white flashes illuminated the sky as Baishi unleashed his technique, entirely disintegrating the island below him.

As seawater began rushing into the void left behind, Baishi's wings trembled slightly. Moments later, he transformed into a streak of blue light, darting off into the distance.

Sensing a Flying Thunder God marker a few hundred kilometers away, he adjusted his flight direction and increased his speed.

50 m/s... 100 m/s... 200 m/s... 300 m/s...

A deafening sonic boom echoed across the sky as Baishi's speed finally broke the sound barrier.

Even with the Chakra Cloak reducing external noise, the explosion still reached his ears, causing him to frown.

This wouldn't matter much over the open ocean, where there were no witnesses. But in more populated areas, he didn't want such a spectacle drawing unnecessary attention.

"I'll need to find a way to suppress this."

Lost in thought, Baishi experimented as he flew, sometimes slowing down and sometimes accelerating, deliberately lingering around the speed of sound.

As time went on, the sonic booms grew quieter and quieter until they finally disappeared altogether.

In his previous life, as a typical undergraduate student with no access to advanced technology, solving such a problem would have been impossible. But in this world, with the supernatural power of chakra, Baishi managed to resolve it with relative ease.

The solution? Simple but effective: adjusting the structure of his Chakra Cloak to absorb the sound waves entirely.

Now, Baishi could soar at supersonic speeds in complete silence, gliding through the air like a ghost.

However, his brows remained furrowed as if pondering another issue.

After a while, Baishi opened his mouth and let out a long howl. At first, it was sharp and piercing, then it gradually deepened, and finally, it vanished altogether.

But despite the silence, Baishi didn't close his mouth. He continued his efforts, as if still producing sound.

Minutes passed before he finally stopped, shaking his head.

"As I thought, it's not that simple."

Moments earlier, after solving the sonic boom problem, Baishi had been inspired to explore sound as a weapon.

He recalled that certain low-frequency infrasound waves could resonate with human organs, causing damage without making a sound.

Driven by curiosity, he'd attempted to generate infrasound waves himself. Unfortunately, he failed.

Still, Baishi wasn't discouraged. He had plenty of time to figure it out.

The Land of Waves, Northwest Sea.

Two groups of ships clashed on the ocean.

One side, under the infamous Kado Company, commanded a fleet of armed ships. Kado, one of the world's wealthiest men, operated a shipping business on the surface but was notorious for illegal activities beneath it.

The other side consisted of civilian cargo ships from the Land of Waves.

At first glance, it seemed like a simple case of piracy. But in truth, Kado's aim was far more ambitious: to control the Land of Waves' maritime lifeline.

For a small island nation like the Land of Waves, controlling its sea routes meant controlling its wealth, politics, and ultimately, its future.

As Kado tightened his grip, the Land of Waves resisted, leading to countless skirmishes like the one unfolding now.

On the brink of capture, the cargo ships' crews fought desperately, only to be interrupted by a long, echoing cry from the distance.

Heads turned skyward as a streak of blue light shot out from the crimson dusk, rapidly closing the distance.

"What's that?" one of Kado's men murmured, his voice tinged with unease.

Before he could receive an answer, the light arrived, revealing itself to be a human figure enveloped in glowing, translucent blue energy.

Hovering high above, Baishi scanned the scene below. His gaze landed on the armed ships and their men, their malicious intent unmistakable.

His brows furrowed slightly before his wings gave a gentle flap, sending dozens of wind blades slicing downward.

"It's a ninja!" someone shouted, panic creeping into their voice.

But the wind blades were too swift. In mere moments, they cut through the ships, splitting them into pieces.

As the shattered vessels creaked and groaned before sinking, Baishi paid no attention to the floundering men. With a flap of his wings, he transformed back into a streak of blue light and soared toward the Land of Waves.

If it had been any other ninja, they might have ignored the scene entirely. In the shinobi world, without a mission, ninjas rarely intervened in mundane affairs.

But Baishi operated differently. Bound neither by rules nor contracts, he acted freely. If something displeased him and he had the power to change it, he wouldn't hesitate.

While he wasn't one to pity every weak soul, he wouldn't turn a blind eye when he could easily make a difference.

---

Minutes Later.

Baishi arrived at the Land of Waves.

Choosing a random town, he landed and found an inn. After ordering a table full of dishes, he returned to his room to wait.

As he sat, Baishi reflected on his chakra reserves.

"Two hundred points consumed... manageable."

The hour-long flight, spanning over a thousand kilometers with Wind Release: Wind Wings and Chakra Cloak fully active, had cost him just over two hundred chakra points.

By most standards, this was an impressive efficiency.

Of course, it was still far less economical than Ohnoki's Earth Release: Super-Lightweight Boulder Jutsu. If Ohnoki's flight consumed chakra at the same rate as Baishi's, he would have long since exhausted himself, rendering the technique impractical.

The two techniques weren't comparable. Baishi's flight was tailored to his needs, and he doubted many others could sustain the cost of Wind Wings.

Knock, knock, knock.

A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts.

Even before answering, the tantalizing aroma of food wafted through, causing Baishi's stomach to growl in anticipation.

He hadn't realized just how hungry he was until now. On his secluded island, he mostly subsisted on rations, only occasionally indulging in fresh food.

That deprivation made today's feast all the more enticing.

"Come in," Baishi called out.

The door creaked open as several servers entered, carrying trays piled high with steaming dishes.

"Here's your order, sir," one said, bowing politely.

"Set it here," Baishi instructed, pointing to a nearby table.

The servers quickly laid out the meal before excusing themselves.

Once they were gone, Baishi wasted no time digging in, savoring each bite.
