Chapter 93: Chapter 15:The Akatsuki Is On the Move!
Yuto and the girls had spent hours scouring the first wolf mountain, leaving no stone unturned. Naruko had summoned a dozen shadow clones, each meticulously combing through the snow-covered terrain, while Hitomi and Yuto relied on their dojutsu, scanning for any signs of chakra disturbances or hidden seals. Yet, despite their combined efforts, the trio came up empty-handed.
Naruko dispelled her clones with a frustrated sigh. "Nothing! Not a single clue. This mountain is as empty as my savings jar!"
Hitomi's brows furrowed. "I've used my Sharingan on every surface we've passed. If there's something here, it's hidden extremely well."
Yuto, standing with his arms crossed, tapped his foot in thought. 'Maybe it is not in this mountain. After the worm comes back, and if it hadn't found anything, then we will move to the second mountain.'
A low rumble broke their conversation as Yuto's summon, the massive black and red-plated worm, surfaced. Its armored plates , and its orange diamond-shaped horn gleamed ominously. The worm shook its massive head from side to side, signaling that its underground search had also turned up nothing.
Yuto sighed, patting the worm's head gently. "Good effort, buddy. Looks like this mountain's a bust. Let's head to the second wolf mountain."
Both Naruko and Hitomi nodded in agreement, though Naruko pouted slightly. "I hope we find something there. If not, I'm making Yuto pay for all this effort with extra ramen later."
Yuto rolled his eyes. "If you put half as much effort into the search as you do planning your meals, we might've found the vault by now."
Naruko shot him a mock glare but didn't retort.
The group climbed onto the worm's massive armored back. Its plates shifted slightly to form makeshift seats as they settled in. Yuto sat at the front, holding onto one of the plates for balance, while Naruko and Hitomi took positions behind him.
"Alright, big guy, take us to the second mountain," Yuto commanded.
The worm let out a low growl, almost like a purring engine, before burrowing into the snow and earth. The sensation of moving underground was unlike anything else—the group could feel the vibrations as the worm carved through the land with ease. The journey was eerily quiet, save for the occasional hum of the worm and Naruko's grumbles about ramen.
The worm began to slow as they approached the second wolf mountain, its massive head breaking through the ground and sending snow flying in all directions.
While Team 7 began their meticulous search on the second wolf mountain, the scene shifted to a secluded house nestled deep within the snowy expanse of the Land of Iron. The house, seemingly ordinary from the outside, now bore an air of silence and dread.
Inside, the aftermath of a gruesome event painted a horrifying picture. The previous owners of the home—an elderly couple—lay lifeless on the floor, their bodies hastily sealed away into a scroll lying on the table. The killers, a group of six figures cloaked in black with red clouds adorning their robes, stood scattered around the room.
Kakuzu was the first to speak. "We'll hide out here until the finals of the Chunin Exams. The Land of Iron's neutrality means fewer interruptions. It's the perfect cover until Orochimaru starts his plan and we step in."
Deidara, leaning lazily against the wall with an irritated scowl, crossed his arms. "Tch, a whole month? Do you know how much art I could be creating in that time, yeah? This is a waste of my talents!"
Behind him, Hidan paced back and forth, his scythe dragging along the wooden floor, leaving deep gouges. "This is bullshit! Lord Jashin demands sacrifices. If I go a whole damn month without offering someone up, I'll need at least a hundred sacrifices to make up for it!" His voice carried a mix of frustration and fervor, his eyes wide with religious zeal.
Kisame, sitting on a chair far too small for his bulky frame, chuckled darkly, resting Samehada against his shoulder. "Relax, Hidan. You'll get your chance. Besides, I don't mind laying low for a bit. Gives me time to sharpen Samehada and keep an eye on things."
Sasori stood in the corner, working silently on one of his puppets. He didn't bother to acknowledge the conversation, his focus entirely on fine-tuning the intricate mechanisms of his creation.
Itachi, however, stood by the window, his gaze distant as he peered out into the snow-covered landscape. His face remained unreadable, but his thoughts were far from calm. 'Hitomi…' The image of her face flashed in his mind. 'I can't let you face the dangers ahead until you are ready… but this path I've chosen means we stand on opposite sides. And soon I shall fall while you become stronger.' His hand unconsciously clenched into a fist as his Sharingan flickered into its Mangekyo form for a second before reverting back to its 3 tomoe state.
Kakuzu, unimpressed by the complaints, turned to Deidara and Hidan with a glare. "Enough whining. You're here because the Akatsuki has a plan regarding the Jinchuriki during Orochimaru's attack, and you'll follow orders. Whether you like it or not, this is where we stay until it's time for the finals."
Deidara scoffed but didn't push further, muttering something under his breath about "uncultured brutes." Hidan, on the other hand, grumbled but eventually threw himself onto a couch, his scythe leaning against the wall beside him.
The room fell into an uneasy silence, the tension palpable. Outside, the snow continued to fall, its quiet beauty in stark contrast to the sinister scene unfolding within. Each member of the Akatsuki was lost in their thoughts, their reasons for being there varying, but all tied to the organization's greater goals.
And through it all, Itachi continued to stare out the window, the snow reflecting faintly in his crimson Sharingan. 'Soon....we will meet again....my dear little sister.'
