Chapter 126: Danzo
(A/N:- I changed the name of butterfly to Kaede)
---
Blood dripped down from the arm that had been pierced through the abdomen. Bee grasped the enemy tightly, using the last of his strength to buy his sister a few precious seconds.
Kaede caught the blood sent by her brother and crushed the vial, letting the crimson liquid seep into her wound. A chilling force surged through her body, but there was no time to dwell on the strange sensation. She steeled herself and charged at the Mist Ninja with all the strength she could muster.
Even as the demon's blood coursed through her, her opponent's power visibly surged, an ominous sign of what was to come.
But Kaede was too late. The internal organs of Bee were shattered by the enemy's blow, leaving only a faint spark of consciousness.
"No!" Kaede screamed, her voice cracking with anguish.
In that instant, a wave of resentment and hatred overwhelmed Kaede's heart. The violent influence of the demon blood rapidly consumed her mind, accelerating her transformation. The once-serene Kaede began to mutate as the blood's power took hold.
This sudden shift caught even Muzan off guard, forcing the typically unflappable Demon King to adopt a more serious demeanor.
The external environment and individual circumstances often dictated the development of demon abilities. On this battlefield, there was no time for carefully cultivating power. Yet the sight of her brother shattered body pushed Kaede beyond her limits.
Her canine teeth extended unnaturally, her body swelling by nearly a third as her clothing tore apart. Black, insect-like patterns spread across her skin, marking her transformation.
"You seek power desperately. I accept your request," Muzan declared ominously.
From his position on the bow of the ship, Muzan shifted into his Demon King form and appeared before her in a flash. Without hesitation, he obliterated the Mist Ninja who had struck Bee down.
But the insatiable hunger of Kaede's newly formed demon side remained. Rage fueled her tyranny, and she found herself unable to resist Muzan's command.
Muzan's palm shifted into a grotesque mass of flesh and tendrils, wrapping tightly around Kaede. He injected her with a surge of demon blood, the sheer volume threatening to destroy her from within. Whether she survived or exploded into a rain of blood was irrelevant to him.
Nearby, Haku observed the scene cautiously. Unlike Kaede's chaotic transformation, his own had been carefully controlled by Muzan, sparing him the overwhelming hunger. Yet, witnessing this grotesque process filled him with unease.
"She's succumbing to the hunger," Haku muttered, his grip tightening on his blade.
Noticing his hesitation, Muzan spoke coldly. "Do not look away, Haku. Her transformation reflects the true nature of a demon. You were simply spared the horror because I allowed it."
The realization struck Haku deeply. He took a step back, silently vowing never to lose control as Kaede had.
Meanwhile, Kaede's body continued to mutate. Butterfly-like wings emerged from her back, adorned with eerie, intricate patterns. Her swarm of insects, previously dormant, began to stir. They absorbed the white powder lingering in the air, growing more menacing by the second.
"Fascinating," Muzan mused. "She has integrated her clan's secret insect techniques into her blood demon art."
Kaede's abilities bore a striking resemblance to those of demons in Muzan's own world, whose powers could evolve unpredictably. However, despite her newfound strength, her body was nearing its limit.
"Freeze!"
Haku stepped forward, unleashing a blast of icy air. His mastery over Hyōton (Ice Release) had grown, allowing him to lower the surrounding temperature and halt the frenzied activity of Kaede's demon cells.
With the worst of the transformation contained, the rest depended on Kaede. Whether she survived or succumbed to the process was now up to her.
The agony of the transformation brought forth an ear-splitting scream. Yet, with Haku's aid, Kaede endured. Eventually, she collapsed to the ground, her breaths shallow but steady.
As she lay there, Kaede became acutely aware of the cold, malevolent power coursing through her veins—but it couldn't bring Bee back.
Consumed by grief, she reached out to her brother lifeless body. Her swarm of insects responded to her sorrow, converging on Bee's remains. To her astonishment, they began replacing his shattered organs, constructing a humanoid figure of writhing insects.
The grotesque display even gave Muzan pause. "Intriguing," he remarked. "These insects can mimic the human form with startling precision. Such a feat is beyond my own capabilities."
Kaede, trembling, embraced the cold, insect-constructed form of her brother. Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, "I will protect you, no matter the cost."
Haku, watching from a distance, shuddered. "She's... terrifying," he thought, stepping further away.
Even Muzan seemed momentarily unsettled by her devotion. Yet, his interest in her transformation remained detached.
"First, congratulations," Muzan said, extending a hand. "You are no ordinary demon. With time, you may even earn a place among the Twelve Kizuki."
Kaede nodded weakly, her resolve hardening. She had sacrificed everything—her family, her village, and even her humanity. Now, she possessed the strength of an elite Jōnin, though the cost was immeasurable.
Muzan turned his gaze to the horizon. "Your blood demon art has taken shape. Master it, and your place in the Twelve Kizuki will be secured. Until then, prove your worth."
From a distance, a group of spies observed the scene with growing dread. "The information was correct, but their power... it's beyond anything we imagined," one whispered.
---
As per Danzo-sama's orders, the news was deliberately leaked, allowing his operatives to observe the unusual ability that could drastically enhance a ninja's strength. This power was far beyond what anyone had anticipated.
For a chūnin to leap to the level of an elite jōnin in one step—such a transformation was enough to excite even the most disciplined shinobi, let alone wandering ninja.
"Write everything down and report to Lord Danzo," one of the ROOT agents instructed.
During the previous investigation, Nara Shikaku had speculated that someone from the Hyūga clan might be involved. As a result, the operatives refrained from getting too close, retreating after securing the information they needed.
Meanwhile, Kaede's strength was still lacking. While capable of dealing with low-level threats, her temperament left much to be desired. She required psychological counseling—something that would have to wait for a less pressing time.
---
In another part of the Land of Waves, Kakuzu addressed Muzan, the de facto leader of the Twelve Kizuki.
"We're facing financial issues again," Kakuzu said flatly.
This caught Muzan's attention. The man who controlled the organization's finances seldom spoke without good reason. Muzan, who often found monetary matters tedious, glanced at Kakuzu with mild interest.
"What's the problem now?" Muzan asked, his tone calm but commanding.
"It's the debts. Our funds aren't just tied up with shinobi; some of it involves nobles. And as you know, dealing with nobles is a hassle," Kakuzu replied, his expression betraying his disdain.
Although Zabuza's group, known as the Demon of the Mist, had taken up debt collection, they could only intimidate shinobi. Nobles, with their wealth and the laws of the Land of Fire prohibiting shinobi from entering their estates, were a different matter.
"Considering the current situation in the Land of Waves, making enemies of the nobles is unwise," Kakuzu continued. "Zabuza suggested you intervene."
Muzan's expression darkened, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
"Those nobles are irritating. But if they refuse to pay, we'll give them a reason to reconsider. Kaede!"
The woman stepped forward, bowing slightly.
"You can control insects, can't you? Let them infiltrate the nobles' estates. A little suffering might loosen their purse strings," Muzan ordered, his tone icy.
"Understood, Muzan-sama," she replied.
Even Kakuzu, who was used to horrors, shuddered as Kaede's form seemed to dissolve into a swarm of insects.
---
At the estate of a noble in the Land of Fire, Zabuza stood with his massive Kubikiribōchō strapped to his back. He glanced warily at Kaede beside him, her unsettling presence putting him on edge.
"The mission is simple: we collect the debt," Zabuza growled.
Kaede, her expression indifferent, replied, "I'm only here on Muzan-sama's orders. The money is your concern."
Suppressing his irritation, Zabuza watched as she vanished into a swarm of insects. Moments later, the bugs infiltrated the estate.
Inside, the insects burrowed into the bodies of their targets, feeding off their vitality. These were no ordinary insects but creatures enhanced with demon blood. Without Kaede's control, they would devour their hosts entirely in days.
"Terrifying..." Zabuza muttered, checking himself for any stray insects.
---
Over the following days, the duo's actions spread a strange illness among the nobles of the Land of Fire. Victims grew emaciated and suffered excruciating pain. Physicians, baffled, dismissed it as malnutrition—an absurd diagnosis given the nobles' opulent lifestyles.
---
Meanwhile, an uninvited guest arrived in the Land of Waves. A ship docked, and a group of black-clad figures disembarked. At the forefront was Danzo Shimura, leading his ROOT operatives.
"Lord Danzo, the Land of Waves is dangerous," one operative said, kneeling. "Should we attempt negotiations with Muzan?"
Danzo scoffed. "I've faced far worse than a rogue shinobi. Let's proceed."
Their movements didn't go unnoticed. From within the mist, Hizashi Hyūga observed them.
"Danzo has arrived," Hizashi reported.
In a laboratory hidden within the mist, Muzan paused his experiments, his gaze narrowing as he reviewed footage of Danzo's arrival.
"So, the old schemer finally shows himself," Muzan mused.
Though they had once cooperated, Muzan had since become a rogue ninja, and Danzo's appearances had grown rare.
"What's he after now?" Muzan muttered before vanishing into the mist to confront Danzo personally.
Despite the thick fog, the roads of the Land of Waves were well-maintained, ensuring no one got lost. Danzo's group followed the paths, marveling at the rapid development of the region.
"The progress here is astonishing," Danzo remarked. "I've always believed Konoha's growth to be unparalleled, but this… this surpasses it."
His tone was laced with envy and ambition.
"I underestimated him. With his help, my plans can come to fruition even faster."
