Chapter 124: The 1st Great Ninja War Part 3

Kumogakure was the last village to sign the war reparations agreement. Due to the overwhelming victory, Senju Tobirama only brought his students to meet the Raikage.

The students accompanying him were Mikoto Chinoike, Sarutobi Hiruzen, Shimura Danzo, Utatane Koharu, Mitokado Homura, and Akimichi Torifu.

Uchiha Katori, is the disciple of Tobirama, she couldn't join them because she was ill. She had volunteered to be injected with Hashirama's cells after most of the Senju Clan had died out, with some even turning into trees.

At first, Tobirama believed the procedure was a success, but Katori's body convulsed, and she fainted. They were still caring for her when the news from Kumogakure reached Konoha. Therefore, everyone except Uchiha Katori followed Tobirama to Kumogakure.

"There are 34 ninja chasing us," Tobirama said, looking at his students. "One of us needs to act as bait."

'Bait?' Danzo thought to himself. 'Hiruzen, will you volunteer?'

Danzo looked at Hiruzen but then closed his eyes.

'I'm sorry. I'm weak and coward,' Danzo admitted silently.

Mikoto Chinoike glanced at her sensei.

'Sensei, I don't want to leave you,' she thought. She wasn't afraid to die, but her love for Tobirama made her unwilling to leave him.

"I'll be the bait," Hiruzen suddenly offered.

"Hiruzen!" his friends exclaimed in shock, while Danzo felt relieved and silently thanked him.

"No, you all will return. I'll be the bait," Tobirama interjected.

"But Sensei, you're the Hokage!" Hiruzen protested.

"I will go and you will become the new sprout of Konoha. Hiruzen, from today, you are the Third Hokage," Tobirama declared before dashing toward the enemy.

Everyone realized what Tobirama meant—he wanted them to return to Konoha and lead it after his death.

As they prepared to leave, Mikoto suddenly wanted to dash after Tobirama, but Koharu held her back.

"Sister Mikoto, Sensei commanded us to return to Konoha," Koharu urged.

"You all go back. I will help Sensei," Mikoto replied.

"Let's honor Sensei's request," Koharu insisted.

Mikoto waved her hand, releasing Koharu's grip.

"You all go. Hiruzen is now the Hokage," Mikoto said. "But my goal isn't to be Hokage. I love Tobirama, and I can't imagine my life without him. If he dies here, I will follow him. You all can return."

With that, Mikoto dashed toward the enemy.

"Hiruzen, what should we do now?" someone asked.

"Let's return to Konoha," Hiruzen ordered.

---Setsuna POV---

"Sir, Tobirama and Mikoto are facing 34 rogue ninja from Kumogakure, including Ginkaku and Kinkaku," said Jarvis.

"Hmm, it seems that even though Konoha is winning the war, some things never change. He should have brought Aburame Toka instead of his students for the negotiation," commented Setsuna.

"Host, don't worry, it's not a virus," said the System.

"System, mark Tobirama and Mikoto for a safe space, and before the rogues manage to kill them, transfer them into the space," commanded Setsuna.

"As you wish," replied the System.

"By the way, why is Mikoto following Tobirama?" asked Setsuna.

"It's because she fell in love with him," the System replied.

"What?" Setsuna was shocked. "When did this happen?"

"It happened in the Valley of Hell. Tobirama was the one who cured Mikoto and her parents, giving her a new purpose in life. That's why she fell in love with him," the System explained.

"Tobirama, you should thank me," Setsuna muttered while massaging his forehead.

---Confession of Death---

"Mikoto, what are you doing here?" asked Tobirama, surprised by Mikoto's decision to follow him.

"I won't let you go alone, Sensei," replied Mikoto.

"You..." Tobirama sighed. "Did the others come too?"

"No, Sensei. I came alone," said Mikoto.

"Go back to Konoha, Mikoto," ordered Tobirama, before it was too late.

"I love you, Sensei. I love you..." Mikoto was in tears. "I wanted to tell you this before, but I didn't dare."

"You..." Tobirama was stunned. "If you love me, then go back."

"No, I'll die with you," said Mikoto.

Little did Mikoto know, if she hadn't followed Tobirama, he would likely have won the battle. Ginkaku and Kinkaku didn't possess the Nine-Tails chakra, as it had been given to Setsuna in the form of the Perfect Jinchuuriki Card. As a result, they were much weaker than in the original story.

Tobirama, shocked by Mikoto's confession, felt something stir in his cold heart. It was the first time someone had told him they loved him, and he became momentarily distracted during the battle.

"They're coming," said Tobirama.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

---Rebellion---

"Oh, the Hokage and his girlfriend are here," teased Ginkaku.

"Brother, how about we take the woman for some pleasure?" added Kinkaku.

"What are you doing here? Your Raikage has already signed the peace treaty with Konoha," said Tobirama.

"Hmph, that puny Raikage doesn't deserve to be our leader," said Ginkaku, followed by mocking laughter from the others.

"Muehehehehe."

"Wahahaha."

"Zehahaha."

"Hokage, today you will die and we will enjoy the woman beside you," Ginkaku taunted before dashing forward to attack.

Tobirama, ready for the assault, parried Ginkaku's lightning strike by imbuing his kunai with chakra.

"Tobirama, look at your woman," Ginkaku said suddenly.

Tobirama shifted his attention to Mikoto, who was being besieged by enemies. Frustrated, he said to ginkaku, "Leave her, Am I not enough?"

In that moment of distraction, Tobirama was suddenly pulled into the Six Paths Sage Tool, the Benihisago. The surrounding enemies stopped their attacks and watched as Tobirama was drawn into the gourd.

With this, the reparation for the war would be canceled. Instead of paying a huge sum to Konoha, they could now trade Tobirama's life for wealth.

But before the gourd could fully absorb Tobirama, he suddenly vanished and reappeared beside Mikoto using teleportation.

Ginkaku was shocked. "Is this the legendary jutsu of the Second Hokage?"

"Sensei!" Mikoto called out.

"Mikoto, when they call your name, never answer. It will activate that gourd and trap you inside that tool," Tobirama ordered.

"Understood, Sensei," replied Mikoto.

They fought for about ten minutes, with Tobirama steadily defeating their enemies one by one. However, Mikoto was soon caught by an opponent.

"Tobirama, look at your woman!" taunted Ginkaku.

Tobirama felt a surge of anxiety as he saw Mikoto impaled through the stomach by a lightning-style attack.

"Mikoto!" Tobirama gasped, horrified.

In that moment of distraction, Kinkaku and Ginkaku took advantage and landed a critical blow, severely injuring Tobirama by damaging his liver and diaphragm.

He desperately wanted to save Mikoto, but it was too late. Mikoto had fallen from the attack, and he himself was grievously wounded.

Overcome with rage, Tobirama unleashed his full power, killing every rebel.

As he lay on the brink of death, Tobirama staggered over to Mikoto's side.

"I'm sorry, Mikoto. I never realized my true feelings until you confessed. If I had another chance, I would choose to marry you," Tobirama whispered before losing consciousness.

Far from the battlefield, Setsuna received a notification.

"Ding! Mikoto Chinoike and Tobirama Senju have been saved and are now in a safe space."

Author Notes - When I started writing this story, I initially planned for Hiruzen and Danzo to betray the Uzumaki clan. However, my mistake was I wrote from the beginning which is Warring States Era.

Certain events need to take place, such as the First Great Ninja War and Tobirama's death. At the same time, I dislike strictly following the canon timeline—what's the point of a transmigrator with a system if they don't change the timeline?

So, I decided to save someone who was originally meant to being killed. I hope you all enjoy this change!
