Chapter 2: New Life and The System
Chapter 2: New Life and the System
Warm sunlight streamed through the window as Shin groggily opened his eyes. The ceiling above him wasn't the sterile white of the hospital but a wooden paneling with intricate carvings. He blinked a few times, confusion settling in. His body felt strange—lighter, stronger. As he sat up, he caught sight of his reflection in a nearby mirror.
"What the...?" he muttered, staring at the reflection of a boy no older than eleven. His messy black hair framed a youthful face with sharp features and bright, curious eyes.
Suddenly, a splitting headache surged through his skull. He clutched his head, groaning as unfamiliar memories began flooding his mind. Images, names, and emotions swirled in a chaotic storm, overwhelming his senses. When the pain subsided, he sat in stunned silence.
Based on the memories, his name was now Hattori Shin, a member of the Hattori clan in Konoha—a small but respected family known for their expertise in crafting ninja tools and sealing techniques. He lived in a comfortable home with his parents, younger twin siblings, and a life full of warmth and simplicity.
The memories also revealed something startling. He was a student at the Ninja Academy, in the same class as Obito Uchiha, Rin Nohara, Might Guy, and Kurenai Yuhi. The graduation exam was just days away.
Shin shook his head, trying to process it all. Before he could dwell on it further, a sudden chime echoed in his mind.
[Welcome to the Magi System.]
A translucent blue screen appeared before him, displaying several options: Draw, Missions, and Inventory. His heart raced. This was straight out of a game—or, more accurately, his favorite anime.
"A system?" he whispered, his voice trembling with excitement and disbelief.
The screen pulsed as a new notification popped up.
[Beginner Gift: 1 Free Draw Available.]
He wasted no time and selected the Draw option. The screen morphed into a golden wheel adorned with symbols he instantly recognized: the sigils of the Djinn. With a flick of his mental command, the wheel began to spin, emitting a soft glow.
[Congratulations! You have obtained: Dantalion, Djinn of Wisdom.]
Shin's eyes widened as a luminous artifact materialized in his palm—a small, ornate book with glowing blue runes. The symbol of Dantalion glimmered on its cover, radiating power.
"Dantalion…" he muttered, awe-struck. He could feel its energy coursing through him, filling his mind with a sense of clarity and potential.
Before he could explore further, a voice called out from beyond the room. "Shin! Breakfast is ready!"
It was a woman's voice—gentle, yet firm. His mother.
Shin hesitated for a moment before tucking the artifact into the Inventory option of the system. The screen vanished, and he stood up, adjusting to his smaller frame. As he opened the door and walked into the dining area, he was greeted by the sight of a warm, bustling family.
His father, Hattori Kenshin, sat at the head of the table, his rugged face softened by a kind smile. His mother, Miho, was placing bowls of steaming miso soup on the table. Beside her sat the twins: his sister Miyuki, who was playful and talkative, and his little brother Mitsuki, who shyly looked up at him with admiration.
"Big brother!" Miyuki exclaimed, jumping up to hug him. Mitsuki followed suit, tugging at his sleeve. Shin froze, overwhelmed by the affection.
"Uh, good morning…" he said awkwardly, still not used to this familial warmth.
As they sat down to eat, Kenshin spoke up. "Shin, the academy graduation is coming up, isn't it? You've been training hard. I know you'll make us proud."
Miho chimed in with a cheerful smile. "That's right! Don't stress too much, dear. Just do your best, and remember we're all rooting for you."
Shin nodded, still trying to process the kindness and love radiating from his new family. For someone who had spent years isolated in a hospital bed, this was overwhelming.
After breakfast, he packed his supplies and headed to the Ninja Academy. The streets of Konoha bustled with activity, yet Shin couldn't shake the sense of wonder. He was in a world he had only dreamed of, with the Magi System in tow.
As he reached the academy, he took a deep breath, steeling himself for the challenges ahead. This was his new life, and he would make the most of it.
