Chapter 4: Missions and Bloodline
Chapter 4: Missions and Bloodline
The sun was barely over the horizon when Shin woke up. Today was a big day—teams would be assigned their Jonin instructors. But before heading to the academy, Shin decided to check his system notifications. He had ignored them the day before, preoccupied with the graduation ceremony and celebrations.
The translucent blue screen appeared in front of him, revealing a series of updates:
Mission Completed: Showcase Dantalion's AbilityReward: 200 RukhMission Completed: Becoming a GeninReward: 500 RukhIn Progress: Creating a Jutsu Combination with Djinn's PowerReward: 1000 RukhShin tapped on the Draw option, but his excitement dimmed when he saw the requirement: 10,000 Rukh to draw another Djinn. "Looks like I've got a long way to go," he muttered.
Determined to make progress, Shin headed to the clan's training ground. As he practiced with kunai and sealing techniques, his younger siblings, Miyuki and Mitsuki, watched him in awe. Their laughter and cheers encouraged him to push harder.
After some time, his father, Kenshin, called him into the house.
Inside Kenshin's study, Shin stood nervously as his father's piercing gaze studied him. Kenshin Hattori was known for his genius in creating ninja tools and sealing techniques, contributions that had been pivotal in the Second Shinobi War.
"Shin," Kenshin began, his tone measured. "As the next head of the Hattori clan, there are things you must know and responsibilities you must accept."
He placed a large, ancient scroll on the table before Shin. Its edges were worn, and faint runes glimmered along its surface.
"This scroll is tied to our bloodline," Kenshin explained. "It is said only a chosen individual can inscribe their name upon it and connect with its secrets. I tried when I was your age, but the scroll rejected me. The last successful attempt was generations ago—long before the founding of the Five Great Shinobi Villages."
Shin's curiosity peaked as Kenshin handed him a small blade. "Cut your finger and write your name."
Shin followed the instructions. As his blood touched the scroll, a brilliant yellow light filled the room. The glow was so intense that the barrier surrounding the Hattori compound flared to life, ensuring the event remained hidden from prying eyes.
The elders of the clan gathered outside the study, their faces lighting up with joy. They knew what this meant.
Inside, Kenshin watched in stunned silence before breaking into a hearty laugh. "Shin, it seems the glory of the Hattori clan now rests on your shoulders. This is a sign of great things to come."
As the light faded, Shin noticed that his name was now inscribed on the scroll. Beside it were intricate drawings—faces and symbols that made Shin's breath hitch. He recognized them immediately: the Djinn from Magi, including Dantalion, Focalor, and Amon.
Kenshin noticed his son's reaction. "What is it, Shin? Do these symbols mean something to you?"
Shin hesitated but quickly calmed himself. "Father, I have something to tell you."
He retrieved the Book of Dantalion from his Inventory and placed it on the table. Kenshin's eyes narrowed in curiosity.
"What is this?" Kenshin asked.
Shin took a deep breath and lied convincingly. "It's something I received when I turned ten. I saw one of these faces in a dream the night before my birthday. The next morning, this book appeared in my room. It's given me abilities, but I've been hiding them, thinking they were unnatural for someone my age."
Kenshin stared at the ornate book before smiling and placing a hand on Shin's head. "Come with me."
Kenshin led Shin to a hidden dojo deep within the clan's compound. The room was fortified with sealing barriers, ensuring no one outside could witness what happened within.
"Show me what this book can do," Kenshin said, his tone serious.
Shin nodded and stepped back, focusing on the kunai and shuriken in his pouch. "Dante Al-Thais: Drawing the Constellation, Big Dipper."
As he traced the constellation in the air, glowing magic circles formed. The kunai and shuriken vanished, reappearing near ten separate training dummies, each hitting a vital point.
Kenshin's jaw dropped. "Incredible... You can teleport weapons with precision?"
"Yes," Shin confirmed. "It's tied to this book's power. It allows me to manipulate space and transport objects or people within my chakra limits." He chose to frame it in terms of chakra, knowing "Rukh" was a foreign concept in this world.
Kenshin's pride was evident, but his face quickly grew solemn. "This power is unlike anything I've seen. It's a gift—but also a potential danger if the wrong people learn of it. You must train diligently to protect yourself."
"There's more," Shin said, stepping back again. "The book allows me to perform what's called a Djinn Equip."
He activated it, shouting the incantation. Light engulfed his body, and when it faded, he stood transformed. Curled horns adorned his head, his hair now loose and wild. He wore intricate armor, and an eight-pointed star symbol glowed on the back of each hand.
Kenshin stared, a mixture of awe and concern crossing his face. "This... This is beyond anything I could have imagined."
Shin demonstrated some of his enhanced abilities, teleporting himself across the dojo and creating spatial distortions to deflect projectiles.
When he finished, Kenshin placed a hand on his shoulder. "This power will make you a target, Shin. But it also makes you our clan's greatest hope. I will do everything in my power to help you grow stronger. But remember, this is your journey. Protect this secret until the time is right."
Shin nodded solemnly. As he deactivated the Djinn Equip, he felt a renewed determination. He wasn't just living a second life—he was shaping the destiny of an entire clan.
