Chapter 6: Divine Grade Skill - Hawk Eyes
[Attribute points: 85]
Itachi briefly scanned the rewards he obtained and closed the system interface.
He would allocate his points once he got back to his territory and then see what this new skill does.
But first, he still needed to deal with the emerald-eyed wolf's corpse. The smell of blood was almost nauseating, and high-level beasts and the like would be attracted to the smell, ruining Itachi's plans of laying traps around the river plain.
Plus, if any other beast showed up at the same power level as the emerald-eyed wolf or stronger, this time he would truly die. He needed to think carefully about where to put his attribute points; allocating them now would be foolish.
"My clothes are soaked in blood. I can't enter the vegetation like this. I'll attract too much unwanted attention with this pungent smell. I'll wash up first."
With these thoughts, Itachi slowly got up and jumped into the river. The water was icy cold, relaxing him immensely. He held his breath and sank down to the riverbed.
Closing his eyes, he meditated on his current situation and how he could avoid his inner emotions from surfacing again. Itachi couldn't make the same mistake twice.
He was extremely self-aware and calculative. He found it rather strange that these emotions arose so suddenly.
He couldn't deny that his life back in the ninja world had been harsh and affected him immensely. You could say he had been depressed for most of his adulthood, and his illness had only exacerbated the severity of his mental state.
But zoning out mid-fight? To the point where he had no sense of what was going on? That was out of character. This had never happened during his time in the shinobi world.
Yes, his feelings of the injustices that happened and his deep yearning to be with his family were authentic, but those were just passing thoughts—unobtainable things from the past that crossed his mind occasionally back in the shinobi world. It was never deep enough to affect his battles.
Seated and with eyes closed, Itachi held his breath as small bubbles escaped his mouth. After thinking and analyzing for a while, he came to a conclusion.
"There might have been a problem with my soul assimilation… When I reincarnated and my soul took over this body, I felt small anomalies in my thoughts and personality, but I didn't pay them any mind, thinking they would pass."
"Either these are side effects from my reincarnation that will go away with time, or a problem has truly arisen from my reincarnation, and my soul may not have successfully assimilated, thus creating these problems. If my suspicions are correct, it's the latter possibility. The original owner of this body may not have died completely, and a potential takeover of my mind could happen in the future."
"I don't know the specifics of my reincarnation or if it was done by this elusive system or not. Regardless, these are not questions I can worry about right now. I don't have the power to investigate."
Brushing these thoughts aside, Itachi opened his eyes and slowly swam back to the surface.
These questions were not small matters. As he became stronger, he would thoroughly investigate them.
Itachi had a feeling that this body's original owner, Tian Long, wasn't a simple character. He needed to urgently become stronger and find out the power systems and intricacies of the civilization here. Only then could he come up with a counter to his problems.
Knowledge meant power; not knowing his enemies would result in death.
Climbing back onto the shore, Itachi didn't even bother to dry his clothes. The sun's intense heat would dry them in less than an hour anyway.
He walked up to the corpse of the beast he recently killed. He couldn't help but be amazed at its hide; this thick fur couldn't even be dented by the kunai from the system.
This hide would be perfect as his new outerwear.
Luckily, the beast was massive, and it held enough hide to make a full armor set.
It would also keep him warm during the cold nights and help him avoid injuries when traveling through the thick and sharp vines in the barren lands.
Itachi first needed to skin the beast and drain its blood. The thick meat could also be used as sustenance for a while.
Walking over to the vegetation beside him, he cut some vines and made a sturdy rope.
After removing the beast with great difficulty from the thick tree trunk, tying the rope around the beast's legs, he hung it on a thick tree branch using his sturdy rope.
Psssss
The blood slowly drained out. After a couple of minutes, Itachi removed the rope, and with a bang, the beast plummeted to the soil below, creating a mini crater.
"Now that the blood is drained, I can safely take it back to my camp. I'll skin the hide and other parts there."
With these thoughts, Itachi threw the rodent he had hunted earlier near the wolf's corpse and walked off to lay traps around the river.

6 hours later.
Itachi had been working non-stop for the past four hours.
He had laid at least several dozen killing traps and snares.
Looking up at the sky, he estimated it would be dark soon. He needed to head back to camp.
He made a few extra knots with his makeshift rope on the creatures he killed. Using all his remaining strength, he began to slowly drag them into the vegetation.
Slash. Slash. Slash.
His stomach rumbled the whole way. He couldn't wait to get back and cook some food over a fire.
After a while, with streams of sweat pouring down his forehead, he arrived in his territory.
CAW! CAW! CAW!
As soon as he arrived, the crows began making a massive scene!
Sighing, Itachi shook his head and gestured for them to come down. They were flying too high and causing a ruckus.
Dragging the corpses behind him, Itachi avoided his own traps and finally let go of the rope beside the gargantuan tree.
Cawww!!!
The crows wouldn't come down. They continued making noise, no matter what Itachi did.
Nodding his head, Itachi ignored them.
After checking the traps and snares in his territory, he found they hadn't been activated.
The system hadn't sent him any notifications either, but he wanted to check anyway to be certain.
These things required patience; if nothing came today, something would surely come in the next few days.
Itachi was very confident.
Cawww!
Itachi finally had enough. He was hungry and had just gone through a life-and-death battle.
The last thing he needed were these noises above his head.
However, just when he was about to silence the crows, his eyes landed in the direction of where the emerald-eyed wolf's corpse lay.
Itachi understood. The emerald-eyed wolf was an apex predator in the outskirts of the barren lands.
Even though it was dead, its aura had not diminished in the slightest.
They were too afraid to be near it.
"Heh, if they want to stick beside me, they need to get used to these scenes."
Chuckling, Itachi wasn't surprised at their reaction.
In the animal kingdom, the weak would always run from the strong. This had been a rule since time immemorial.
"Once they see me eating this meat, those shameless fellows will swoop down salivating," he mused.
As if their previous acts of cowardice had never occurred.
Grabbing a few blocks of wood and materials, Itachi lit a small bonfire and watched the flames spark.
Sizzle sizzle
The flames were small at the start but grew very quickly.
"This much wood should be enough to cook some meat."
The crows that were airborne looked on in utter surprise, the corners of their eyes shining with curiosity.
They all wondered what the man below was doing.
Soon, though, their eyes widened in shock.
The smell of meat wafting out left them in a frenzy!
Flapping their wings, they cried out, but they were still too afraid to come down. The pressure emanating from the wolf's corpse scared them greatly.
They saw the human below chomping on the delicious meat of a rodent. Seeing him lick his lips and devour the rodent left them salivating.
Itachi discreetly looked at the sky from the corner of his eye. The crows had finally stopped making noise.
A mischievous smile left Itachi's lips. He knew the crows were now watching every action he did.
There was still half the cooked corpse of the rodent lying beside him, and the crows were watching it like hawks.
He lightly grabbed the cooked half of the rodent, and right when he was about to take his bite, he felt the murderous aura above.
The wind whistled as a dozen crows, as if possessed, came gliding down, fighting each other mid-air.
There was no way they were about to let the human eat everything.
To them, they had been working hard guarding the human's territory!
In truth, they had lazed off the entire day and indulged in play fighting.
"There's enough meat for everyone. Relax."
Caw!
"You need to get used to these scenes from now on. What emerald-eyed wolf? This is only the beginning. I don't need cowards in my team. Understood?"
The dozen crows nodded their heads but paid more attention to the meat.
Sighing, Itachi threw the rest of the rodent and left them to their business.
Itachi had already eaten and was satisfied. His lethargy disappeared, and he was full of energy.
"System."
It was finally time to distribute his attribute points and check out his new skill, Hawk Eye.

Itachi nodded in satisfaction. The skill was divine grade.
Although he didn't know how high of a grade that was, it didn't sound like it was low.
"System, provide a description of the skill."
[Hawk Eye (Grade: Divine)]
This Divine-grade skill is a passive skill. Once activated, it lasts for 15 minutes and has a 24-hour cooldown. This Divine-grade skill originates from a primordial beast that roamed the world in ancient times. Once activated, your eyes will contain a golden hue and a myriad of benefits.
Skill benefits when activated include:
-Night vision.
-A powerful wide-range attack that can momentarily blind anything. Current range: 10 meters.
-Advanced eyesight. Current range: 1 mile (even an object as small as a nail can be seen 1 mile away).
-Gives the ability to permanently enslave any living being. Current limit: 1.
This skill is a growth-type skill. Its abilities, cooldown, etc., can be upgraded via the skill tree with advanced attribute points.
-
Itachi's eyes widened in surprise. This skill was unbelievable. And it had room for growth!
What caught his attention the most was permanent enslavement.
Even though its current limit was just one, it could be upgraded later.
Having another living being under his command was no joke. If he could enslave a really strong beast or human, the benefits would be unspeakable.
Itachi suddenly had the urge to rush into the deeper parts of the barren lands and enslave a strong beast.
However, he held himself back. The skill definitely had a limit on the strength of the individuals being enslaved, especially if the power difference compared to himself was too vast.
He was not about to test it with his current strength. Going deep into the barren lands would be suicide right now.
Brushing these thoughts aside, the main event had come.
It was finally time to distribute his attribute points. With 85 points to spend, his overall power was going to take a major leap forward!

However, whilst Itachi was engrossed in the system panel, the skies above were brewing an unprecedented danger.
Rumble. Rumble. Rumble...
