Chapter 164: Chapter 164 - Together Forever.
[Chapter Size: 1900 Words.]
Third Person POV
Land of Fire, Year 39.
...
...
"..." Minato was eating in silence, while a redhead sat beside him, arms crossed, staring at him with an intense look.
"You're not going to eat... you need to, to recover..." he said, glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
"I'm not hungry..." she muttered angrily.
Minato simply sighed, realizing that she still hadn't cooled off since yesterday. He knew she'd remain like this for a while, but eventually, Kushina would start talking to him again.
They stayed there for a while until a growling sound came from her side, and he couldn't help but smile slightly at the scene.
"Are you sure? It's still warm, and I made the sauce you like the most." He remarked in a playful tone.
"I'm not, dattebane! You're just hearing things, and I don't want anything from you!" she retorted, sounding like a stubborn teenager.
"..." Minato continued to look at her with a small smile, clearly amused by her stubbornness.
"What are you looking at, Minato-baka?!" she said, just before her stomach growled again.
"Grrrrrr!"
"Can you stop that?! I'm not going to eat this... Minato-baka's food! Dattebane!" she exclaimed, glaring at her own stomach.
Minato didn't say a word as he stood up and walked over to the pot he had prepared for her. He picked up a tray and brought it over, while she stared at him.
"Take it." He said, with a firmer tone than he usually used.
"But I..." Kushina was torn between accepting it or not. On one hand, she was hungry, but on the other, her pride was in the way.
"Take it." Minato repeated. "You can be mad at me, but you still need to eat," he said.
She hesitated but finally reached out and accepted the bowl from Minato, taking the spoon to start eating.
Minato nodded and sat a bit further from her, giving her space to eat. Kushina made a slightly happy face as she tasted the food.
She ate quickly, and as she was nearly done, she glanced over at Minato, expecting him to be watching her so she could call him "baka," but instead, she found him at a distance, eating while opening a scroll.
"Idiot..." she murmured softly, feeling a pang in her heart, repeating it as she saw him now ignoring her. Meanwhile, Minato seemed completely absorbed in the scroll, as if the roles had reversed. She kept glancing at him as she finished the rest of her food.
"Tell me..." Kushina murmured, this time directing her voice at Minato.
"Hm?" Minato looked up at her.
"Are you serious about marrying more than one woman?" she asked, even though she already knew the answer.
"Yes." Minato replied honestly.
"..." Kushina didn't say anything for a moment, and Minato went back to reading, showing no regret about what he had just said.
Kushina sat there, looking at his back, still pouting with her now-empty bowl, while also still feeling a bit hungry.
"You know this kind of relationship needs rules, right?" Kushina's voice broke the silence again, surprising Minato. Kushina seemed to have swallowed all her pride to say those words, reluctantly accepting that Minato would marry someone else besides her.
"Of course, we need rules..." Minato agreed, a little relieved that Kushina was beginning to accept it.
He returned to his reading, sensing her getting up to refill her bowl. She sat back down next to him, this time curiously glancing at the scroll, fully opening up to him again.
"What are you reading?" she murmured softly.
"This is a technique I used to transport some Konoha ninjas to safety. I had to absorb the Shukaku's chakra and used this sealing jutsu to do it." Minato explained, pointing at the seals, studying how to absorb chakra through them in an attempt to create a version without side effects or drawbacks.
"This seal?!" Kushina exclaimed, disbelief in her voice. "I saw these seals in Mito's scrolls... You used this, Minato?! It could have killed you!!" she cried, shocked.
"Yes... but I had no choice..." Minato replied. "There were ninjas who would have died in that desert if I didn't do something."
"Minato... you take too many risks... you need to think about yourself too and not play the hero all the time!" she exclaimed, not accepting that Minato had put himself in such danger.
"I'm fine after all... although it was a bit foolish, I don't regret anything," he said in a serious tone.
"..." She just looked into his eyes before a small smile formed. "Maybe you really are like that..." she said finally.
"You mean my ninja way? Maybe... I never thought about it, but perhaps so. I want to protect Konoha... my friends... and you..." he said, reflecting on it while gazing at the sky, before feeling her grip tighten on his clothes.
"Don't say things like that so suddenly... you idiot..." Kushina murmured with a blush, clutching Minato's clothes.
Minato said nothing and simply touched her face, kissing her forehead. She looked at him in surprise as he smiled and returned to the scroll.
"What do you think..." she murmured as Minato paused again, glancing at Kushina.
"What?" he asked, curious.
"Our child, you know... how do you imagine him?" she asked, blushing even more, unable to meet Minato's eyes.
"Well..." Minato put the scroll away with that question, knowing exactly how he imagined their first child. "I think he'll be blond like me... but since we both have blue eyes, there's no doubt he'll have those too, looking more like me, though..." Minato smiled, and Kushina, now staring at him, listened attentively as he spoke about the child that hadn't been born yet.
"He'll definitely have your personality... He'll be a troublemaker and give us a lot of work." he added.
"You... think so?" Kushina asked, her eyes trying to picture this child, before bursting into laughter. "Brfff! Hahahahahaha! You think he'll be a troublemaker, Minato?" She couldn't help but imagine a future as the mother of such a child.
"Of course, he will. We'll wake up one day, and all the Hokage statues will be painted while he runs off after messing with all their faces, including mine." Minato said, diving into this imagined future.
"HAHAHAHAHA! That would be so funny, Minato! Dattebane!" Kushina began laughing uncontrollably, wondering where Minato was getting all these ideas. She truly enjoyed picturing that scene in her head.
"He'll even have his own catchphrase. But maybe a little different from yours." Minato said, looking up at the sky.
"Yes..." Kushina replied, much happier than she had been since her abduction, wiping the tears that the laughter had brought.
"..." Minato remained silent.
"You know..." Kushina spoke up again. "When I first entered the academy and yelled that I wanted to be Hokage to try and gain respect from those who made fun of my hair, and everyone laughed at me, you were the one who defended me... and I knew from that moment... you would be the love of my life." She said without hiding her face, her blue eyes shining with a certain confidence to show that her words were not just words.
'End it, use my power, and kill all your enemies. They will die horrible deaths.' The recent memory of the Kyuubi's voice echoed in her mind.
'No matter what happens, Kushina. If you're full of love, even with the Kyuubi inside you, you can still live a happy life. And that's what I wish for you, you and that boy.' The voice of Mito also resounded, a much older memory from nearly three years ago when she was still alive—the greatest lesson Kushina could learn from her.
Caught between these two opposing forces in her mind, the malice of the Kyuubi and the light that Mito had passed on to her, it was obvious that she would always choose the light. And that light was what would also restore Minato within her.
She might be angry with him, upset, and deeply hurt, but there was no denying how frustrating it was. She loved Minato more than anything in her life and wasn't about to give in to the darkness just because she had to share him with one or more women. As long as he loved her and was the father of her children, she didn't mind. Even at thirteen years old, she had dreamed of having a large family with many children.
[Why is this place filling up with flowers... this is disgusting!] The Kyuubi's voice echoed inside her.
'Shut up, dattebane!' Kushina's voice snapped back angrily, silencing the fox as she looked at Minato, now holding his hand while he lifted hers and kissed her palm.
"You know... I've always thought that we'd be together forever, whether in this world or the next, from the moment we met," Minato said without a hint of shame, flashing the most sincere smile he could to Kushina.
"Minato..." she murmured before throwing herself at him, kissing him intensely, letting go of her food as it dropped to the ground. All she wanted now was to feel more of that sensation, where her stomach seemed to be filled with butterflies, much to the dismay of a certain fox who couldn't even see what was happening. It was the complete opposite of how Kushina had been earlier when she tried to break free, closer than ever to doing so. But now, it was different—she had never been so far from disrupting the seal.
"He did it!" someone in the distance whispered, watching the tent from the edge of the camp.
"Man... that was so emotional..." another said, tears in his eyes, dabbing at them with a handkerchief.
"You're such a crybaby... how can you be like that?" another grumbled.
"Don't you see... he's clearly a hero!" the crying man continued.
"Here, take this... you really won the bet." another said, handing money over to someone else.
A group of people had begun to watch Minato and Kushina's interaction. Even though they couldn't hear what was being said, they could see how things unfolded: the boy walking over with food, the girl accepting it, then the girl finally approaching the boy, some conversations, arguments, and smiles exchanged between them, all leading up to a passionate kiss. That was when the bystanders started discussing and making bets.
"Hey, you lot!" a stern voice interrupted, making everyone immediately turn toward the source, their brows furrowing.
"Stop spying on other people's lives and get back to work." Sakumo commanded, his tone and expression firm as he looked at them.
"But sir... it was so beautiful... like a love story!" one person tried to argue.
"Cut it out and get back to your tasks. Love story or not, this has nothing to do with you, so leave the kids alone!" Sakumo said firmly, dismissing the ninjas. However, he couldn't help but let a small smile creep onto his face as he glanced away from Minato and Kushina's direction.
