Chapter 13: CHAPTER 13 - The Jonin Leader
Graduating early from the Ninja Academy required a certain level of skill. At the very least, one had to be able to face off against a fully-fledged Genin without losing. With additional assessments, early graduation was only granted to those who met the strict requirements.
Hyuga Kiyo and the others possessed the necessary strength. The five who passed the exam had been mentored by family members who were already ninjas. Coupled with two years of academy training, they naturally had Genin-level capabilities.
As for Obito Uchiha, his situation was different. He lacked the required skills. Despite being from a prestigious clan, his devotion to the *Will of Fire* consumed most of his time, which he used for small acts of kindness rather than focused training.
In a time of peace, such actions would have earned Obito widespread praise. However, in the perilous world of shinobi where crises abounded, one could only say he was destined to be outmaneuvered due to his lack of strength.
Hyuga Mirai's assessment was relatively straightforward. In the area of medical ninjutsu, he breezed through the process. The academy tests were similarly manageable, allowing him to pass in one attempt. After receiving his Genin forehead protector, Mirai was informed to report to Practice Field #3 the next morning.
He only knew that Hyuga Kiyo would be on his team. The identity of the third member, however, would remain a mystery until the following day.
"System."
A panel appeared before Hyuga Mirai's eyes:
[Scientific Template System]
Host: Hyuga Mirai
Extraction Function: Available (Loading Complete: 100%)
Traversal Function: Unavailable (Loading: 12%)
The extraction function was now operational. According to the system's explanation, this feature allowed him to randomly draw the complete knowledge and experience of a scientist. If Mirai was lucky, he could obtain the expertise of a particularly useful scientist—like the one who invented Doraemon.
After activating a scientist's template, Mirai's body would require a day-long state of deep sleep to process the knowledge transfer. This process was entirely uncontrollable, akin to dreaming.
"I'll give this a try when I have more time to spare. Right now, I can't afford to sleep for a whole day."
He then checked the system's other features. The traversal function remained unchanged, progressing as slowly as a turtle's crawl. At this rate, it might take years to become usable.
Regarding his combat abilities, Mirai had fully mastered the Three Basic Jutsu. However, his proficiency in shuriken throwing was only at an average Genin level, as he hadn't invested much effort in it. In terms of *Gentle Fist*, he had completely mastered the *Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms*. As for the Hyuga clan's secret technique, *Rotation*, while Mirai had attempted to deduce and practice it, he had not yet achieved complete mastery.
He was also wearing a forty-pound weighted load—his maximum without raising suspicion. Any more, and others would begin to notice.
All in all, Hyuga Mirai possessed the strength of a Chunin but lacked real combat experience. His past spars with Kiyo were more playful than serious, vastly different from life-and-death battles.
"Thinking about it this way, becoming a Genin has its perks. At least I'll gain some experience outside the village."
After organizing his ninja tool pouch one last time, Hyuga Mirai called it a day.

The Next Day
Hyuga Mirai arrived on time at Practice Field #3. By the time he got there, Kiyo and the other teammate had already been waiting for a while.
"Good morning, Lady Kiyo, and… Kurenai Yuhi." Mirai greeted them, a bit surprised to see that their third teammate was someone from Class A.
"Morning, Mirai. Looks like we'll be teammates from now on." Kurenai smiled, her red eyes curving like crescent moons.
"You're late again. You always cut it too close," Kiyo grumbled. Although he wasn't technically late, this wasn't the first time Kiyo had complained about his timing.
"I double-checked my ninja tools before heading out, so it took a little longer," Mirai replied calmly, as always providing a reasonable excuse that left Kiyo with no room to argue.
Before Kiyo could get upset, Mirai quickly shifted the conversation. "Where's our squad leader?"
"Not here yet. I wonder who it'll be," Kurenai said curiously.
"It'll either be a ninjutsu specialist or a sensory-type Jonin," Mirai speculated. "If it's a ninjutsu specialist, we'll be a standard task unit: ninjutsu, taijutsu, genjutsu, and medical expertise all covered. If it's a sensory-type, then we're likely a reconnaissance unit."
Kurenai's red eyes sparkled as she looked at Mirai. "Impressive analysis, Mirai."
Kiyo interrupted in a cold tone, "Whoever it is, I just hope they're not late."
Under Mirai's guidance, the three exchanged some basic information about their abilities. After all, teamwork required understanding one another's strengths and weaknesses.
---
Mirai saw himself as a medical ninja with limited offensive capabilities. He could barely use the *Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms*. His combat skills were at the level of an average Genin, while his medical ninjutsu was closer to that of a Chunin. Unless in a life-or-death situation, he had no intention of revealing his hidden strength.
Suddenly, a figure appeared in a blur.
"Everyone's here, I see," said the newcomer, a man in standard Jonin attire. He looked to be in his late twenties or early thirties, his expression calm as he addressed the trio.
"I am your squad leader, Akimichi Fuu. For the foreseeable future, I'll be your Jonin instructor. If there are no objections, we'll begin with introductions."
Kiyo and Kurenai immediately tensed. Fuu's sudden appearance via the *Body Flicker Technique* had caught them off guard. If he'd been an enemy, both of them would have been killed before they even noticed.
Mirai led the introductions. "Hyuga Mirai. I specialize in medical ninjutsu and *Gentle Fist*. My *Byakugan* range is one kilometer, but my taijutsu isn't as strong as Lady Kiyo's."
"Hyuga Kiyo. I specialize in taijutsu." Kiyo's introduction was brief, omitting any mention of personal interests or aspirations.
"I'm Kurenai Yuhi. My specialty is genjutsu. I love sweets, and my dream is to become as great a kunoichi as Lady Tsunade!"
Hearing this, Mirai couldn't help but shake his head. Tsunade's current state wasn't exactly inspiring. Though she hadn't left Konoha yet, she was practically a wreck—constantly drunk or gambling. Mirai had seen her intoxicated on several occasions while delivering documents to the hospital director's office. If her fans in the village witnessed her current condition, their admiration would undoubtedly diminish.
"Akimichi Fuu. Konoha Jonin. I enjoy training and specialize in Fire Release and Earth Release ninjutsu. For now, only two squads have formed from this year's academy graduates. Starting today, you're officially my subordinates. To better gauge your abilities for future missions, we'll begin with a strength evaluation."
Fuu's tone was calm, but his words carried weight. "Let's start right here. Ready… begin!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the three Genin scattered, disappearing into the surrounding forest within seconds.
