Chapter 125: Chapter 125: A Familiar Scene
"It's easy to talk big, but a skinny camel is still bigger than a horse. Even in its weakened state, Konoha is stronger than any single village among us!" Ōnoki snapped impatiently.
"Hiruzen, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Akimichi Torifu, Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Akira, Uchiha Shisui... Humph! That's a formidable lineup, even in their so-called weakness. Can you, Kumogakure, muster as many top-tier shinobi?" Ōnoki sneered with clear disdain.
Anrei responded with unwavering confidence, "True, we can't match Konoha in sheer numbers of elites. However, in terms of quality, Kumogakure surpasses them. Everyone knows that Konoha's factions are divided—the Hokage's camp, the Uchiha clan, and Tsunade, who's not even in the village anymore. If we truly go to war, victory will be ours!
"Our alliance with Iwagakure is merely to minimize losses. Make no mistake, Kumogakure has full confidence that we can take down Konoha on our own!"
Ōnoki scoffed, his tone dripping with contempt. "You can fool yourselves, but don't try to fool me. The Uchiha's Mangekyō Sharingan can suppress tailed beasts—that's no secret. Your jinchūriki wouldn't stand a chance against their eyes. They'd die pitiful deaths."
"Tsuchikage-sama, you jest," Anrei chuckled lightly. "Our Killer B-sama is a perfect jinchūriki. The so-called Sharingan illusions are nothing but child's play to him."
"Tsuchikage-sama, if Iwagakure joins forces with us, Konoha's defeat is guaranteed. The spoils—Konoha's kekkei genkai, secret techniques, and the wealth of the Land of Fire—will all be ours. The shinobi world will be left with just two great villages: Iwagakure and Kumogakure." Anrei's persuasive words dripped with temptation.
"Enough! Your cheap tricks won't fool this old man. Konoha is a tough bone to chew. Even if we manage to take it down, we'll lose teeth in the process. And do you think Sunagakure and Kirigakure won't exploit our weakness?" Ōnoki remained unmoved.
"Konoha isn't as strong as you think, Tsuchikage-sama. Kumogakure has fought them for a year, and they've failed to gain any advantage over us. Their weakness is evident to everyone in the shinobi world," Anrei argued firmly.
Staring at Ōnoki, Anrei pressed further, "If you agree to join us, our combined strength will crush Konoha. They won't stand a chance."
Ōnoki squinted, clearly weighing the proposal. After a long silence, he finally spoke. "This is no small matter. I need time to consider it carefully."
Kumogakure's envoy, Anrei, paused before responding, "I trust you'll find our proposal worth serious thought, Tsuchikage-sama. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to destroy Konoha. I will await your decision in Iwagakure."
After Anrei departed, Ōnoki sat in his now-empty office, a cold smirk spreading across his face. He muttered, "Raikage, you certainly have big ambitions. If Iwagakure and Kumogakure do join forces, we might indeed bring down Konoha. But..."
His thoughts drifted to his own Four-Tails jinchūriki, Roshi—a constant thorn in his side.
Though Iwagakure's issues were not as severe as Konoha's, the village was far from unified.
"Mmm... troublesome. I'll wait and see," Ōnoki murmured to himself.
While Kumogakure's envoy secretly met with Iwagakure, Orochimaru arrived at Amegakure to meet Nagato.
"Welcome to Akatsuki, Orochimaru," Nagato said warmly, his pale face calm as he stood there in his black cloak adorned with red clouds.
As Orochimaru met Nagato's gaze, his heart clenched.
What overwhelming chakra! Far beyond my sensei in his prime. At this age... truly worthy of the Rinnegan!
"I must thank you for your assistance, leader. Without it, escaping would not have been so simple," Orochimaru said, his eyes blazing as he stared at Nagato's violet Rinnegan with unconcealed greed.
Nagato noticed the flicker of avarice but dismissed it. Such confidence came naturally to one with his power.
"Come, Orochimaru. Let me introduce you to the other members of Akatsuki." Nagato gestured as he led Orochimaru deeper into the dark cave.
It happened to be a rare occasion when most of Akatsuki's members were gathered.
In the cavern's depths, a massive Gedo Statue loomed, surrounded by flickering torchlight. A few figures, clad in the same black-and-red cloaks, either stood or sat by the fire.
"Orochimaru, this is Kakuzu, Sasori, Hikaru, and Zetsu..." Nagato introduced each member in turn.
As Orochimaru's gaze swept over the group, it locked onto Hikaru, her crimson Sharingan glinting in the firelight. His expression shifted—greedy and intense.
The memory of being effortlessly subdued by Uchiha Akira remained a fresh, searing humiliation.
Sharingan... such incredible power. The Uchiha are truly blessed by the heavens, Orochimaru thought, his desire for the clan's dojutsu surging to a peak.
"Stop looking at me with those disgusting eyes," Hikaru snapped, her Sharingan glowing ominously as she fixed him with a chilling stare. "You're like a slimy snake wallowing in mud. Absolutely revolting."
Orochimaru's eyes narrowed, his aura flaring with malice.
"Such an impudent little girl. If your parents won't discipline you, I'd be happy to take on the role."
"And you think you're worthy?" Hikaru's voice turned icy as her Sharingan spun into a shuriken-shaped Mangekyō.
Her gaze locked onto Orochimaru, and her overwhelming dojutsu power surged forth.
Orochimaru's heart sank as he felt the world around him shift. Before he could act, he found himself bound to a pillar in a strange, hellish realm. Hikaru stood before him, her Sharingan glowing like crimson fire.
"This is my world," she said coldly. "Here, time, space, mass, and sensations are all under my control. Since we're allies now, consider this a lesson. Enjoy three hours... if you can endure it."
"Aaaah!" Orochimaru's scream echoed through the illusory realm as Hikaru's blade sliced into him, beginning an agonizing, unending cycle of torment.
In the real world, only a moment had passed. Hikaru merely glanced at Orochimaru before he staggered backward, sweat pouring from his face as he collapsed against the cave wall. His breathing was ragged, his spirit shattered as if he'd suffered a devastating blow.
The sight left the other Akatsuki members stunned.
Orochimaru, one of the legendary Sannin, reduced to this state with a mere glance? The group couldn't help but feel a mix of awe and unease.
