Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Rising Turmoil
"Yes, yes," Mizutani Hiroshi said ingratiatingly, his tone dripping with flattery. "You're truly remarkable, pinpointing the core of the issue in an instant."
"Let's hear it. What exactly is going on?" Akira asked, his expression calm and unbothered. He was fully aware that Mizutani's words were little more than sycophantic praise, deliberately leaving room for interpretation.
Seeing Akira's composed demeanor, Mizutani chuckled nervously and explained, "In simple terms, the mysterious cells you provided are brimming with an extraordinary vitality. From a shinobi's perspective, this would fall under the category of Yang Release. For such cells to function effectively, they need to be transplanted into a lifeform with an equally potent Yin Release attribute."
As he spoke, Mizutani glanced cautiously at Akira and continued,
"For example, someone like you."
Although he wasn't a shinobi himself, Mizutani was well-versed in chakra manipulation and had a fair understanding of the powerful clans and their kekkei genkai. He knew that the Uchiha clan's Sharingan was a manifestation of Yin Release. The stronger the Uchiha, the more advanced the Sharingan, and, naturally, the more profound their Yin Release.
As a researcher, Mizutani was confident in his analysis.
"If these cells were transplanted into my body, what are the chances of success?" Akira asked calmly.
Mizutani paused, furrowing his brows in thought before replying,
"For someone as powerful as you, theoretically, failure is not an option."
"May I ask—have you awakened the legendary Mangekyō Sharingan?" Mizutani asked hesitantly, lowering his voice.
Akira cast him a sidelong glance before giving a faint nod.
Just that glance was enough to make Mizutani break into a cold sweat. But when Akira nodded, he let out a sigh of relief and said, "In that case, theoretically speaking, the Yin Release power of your Mangekyō Sharingan should be comparable to the Yang Release within these cells, creating an easy balance."
"Can you use cloning technology to create a test subject and verify this?" Akira asked.
Mizutani pondered the request for a moment before nodding. "With our current cloning techniques, it's theoretically feasible. However, since we've never attempted to clone a shinobi with a kekkei genkai, the outcome remains uncertain."
"What about the body I previously gave you? Can pure Uchiha cells still be extracted from it?" Akira inquired.
"Yes, that won't be an issue," Mizutani confirmed confidently.
"Then get started on this immediately," Akira ordered.
"I understand. I'll begin the experiments at once," Mizutani replied solemnly.
Thanks to chakra's unique properties, the incubation period for the clone could be significantly reduced, making the process much faster than traditional methods.
As Akira left the labs, he was in an excellent mood. In just one day, the organization had made significant breakthroughs in two key research projects.
Cloning aside, if the transplantation of Hashirama's cells could be verified as viable, it would eliminate any lingering concerns Akira might have. With dual Kamui enhanced by Hashirama's cells, he would become an unstoppable force in the shinobi world.
But as Akira approached his home, just as he reached the front door, an ANBU operative appeared beside him and spoke urgently.
"Uchiha Akira, the Hokage has summoned you to his office immediately."
Akira raised an eyebrow but wasted no time, heading straight to the Hokage's office.
By all accounts, late in the year of Konoha's 51st year, there shouldn't have been any major incidents.
Upon arriving, Akira found Hiruzen Sarutobi seated at his desk, his expression a mix of worry and anger.
"Akira, there's trouble at the border," Hiruzen said without waiting for Akira to speak. His voice was grave. "According to the latest intelligence, Nagato—the one with the Rinnegan—has attacked the defensive line at the border."
"Nagato attacked the defensive line?" Akira asked, his brows furrowing slightly.
Hiruzen nodded. "Yes. The latest reports indicate that our forces suffered heavy casualties. Shisui engaged Nagato to cover the retreat of the others. As of now, his status is unknown."
Hearing this, a flash of killing intent passed through Akira's eyes.
Although he wasn't particularly close to Shisui, the man was still one of the pillars of the Uchiha clan, an essential strength that could not be lost.
Hiruzen met Akira's gaze and continued, "I've already contacted Orochimaru and Jiraiya, who are stationed nearby, to assist Shisui. However, to ensure nothing goes wrong, I need you to head there immediately. I'll have ANBU sent in as backup."
"I understand," Akira said with a nod before vanishing from the office.
As he left, Hiruzen narrowed his eyes, his face dark with intent. "Nagato..."
After returning home, Akira immediately used the Spiritual Transformation Technique. His consciousness transformed into a spiritual form, rapidly expanding his senses to locate Shisui.
Recognizing Shisui's chakra signature wasn't difficult. Soon, Akira locked onto a faint, flickering presence near the border between the Land of Water and the Land of Fire—like a candle in the wind.
However, over ten kilometers behind Shisui, Nagato's overwhelming chakra was closing in fast.
"Shisui is in critical condition, barely clinging to life. There's no time to waste—I have to use Kamui now before Nagato reaches him." With that thought, Akira's spirit returned to his body.
In the next instant, he activated Kamui, disappearing from his home.
When he reappeared, Akira found himself deep within a dense forest at the border. There lay Shisui, his state utterly miserable. His flak jacket was in tatters, his body bruised and bloodied, and trails of dried blood stained his face beneath his eyes. His chakra was so weak it seemed as if he could perish at any moment.
Seeing Shisui in such a dire state, Akira exhaled deeply. Without hesitation, he hoisted Shisui onto his back and vanished into Kamui's dimensional space.
Facing Nagato head-on with a critically injured comrade was not a wise choice. Despite having dual Kamui, Akira knew that without the enhancement of Hashirama's cells, he wasn't at full potential. Furthermore, Nagato likely had some knowledge of Kamui's mechanics. If the fight dragged on, the outcome could be uncertain.
Moments later, Nagato arrived at the site where Shisui had been. His expression darkened as he gazed at the empty ground. "That speed… Was it a space-time ninjutsu? Could Konoha have acquired Madara's eyes?"
Expanding his senses, Nagato's scowl deepened. There was no trace of Shisui's chakra for hundreds of kilometers.
"Foiled again," Nagato muttered darkly, his face grim.
