Chapter 28: 28. "Do you remember why we chose the left earring?"
(You... Give me power stones 🔫)
Miyuki raised her eyebrow. "Reincarnation? What about it?"
"Well..." Yukio's words didn't reach his mouth.
What was he supposed to say? His name from their previous life? Her name from their previous life? Maybe mention the company they worked at or the anime they both hated with such passion that it would make a Uchiha jealous?
"Oh, is this a confession or something? I don't think anything else would make you speechless. Maybe you're about to drop a cheesy pickup line with reincarnation in it to gauge my reaction?" Miyuki grinned like she hit the exact spot.
Yukio giggled nervously. "Haha, you got me."
"Yeah, what is it? That's not gonna fool me," Miyuki deadpanned.
Even an oblivious genin could tell Yukio was lying.
Okay, that might be a wrong statement since some genins are even more oblivious than Naruto.
Whether the author was talking about the current infant Naruto or the one from when he was a genin in the canon is a mystery.
Yukio took a deep breath and did some stretching, clearly thinking of how to say it.
This was making Miyuki nervous.
'What is he going to say? Did the Fourth Great Ninja War start? Did he accidentally get hit by the Reanimation Jutsu? Maybe he time-travelled using the Flying Thunder God?' Miyuki was also running through all the possibilities of what Yukio might say.
Maybe someone their age died. 'Did Asuma or Kurenai die? Or did Kakashi finally read Icha-Icha?' Her curiosity was rising.
"I was going to say, how about I make barbecue for dinner?"
Silence. Dead silence.
1... 2... 3...
Lightning covered Miyuki's sword.
She instantly closed the distance and swung her sword at Yukio, who barely dodged.
"Wait, not here—"
"I don't fucking care," Miyuki was done with him. She didn't care if some photo frames got destroyed; she wanted blood.
"What a violent woman," Yukio muttered as he covered his feet with chakra, using it to dash towards the side wall and then head for the door.
But Miyuki? She was a lightning user, through and through.
She covered her body with lightning and dashed straight to the door Yukio had just tried to reach.
Yukio quickly used his foot to change direction, heading for the ceiling, and intending to jump through the window. But Miyuki intercepted him again.
The game of cat and mouse began.
Surprisingly—or unsurprisingly—not a single photo frame or object was touched during the entire chase.
(A/n - It's like how Gran Torino from MHA moves in a closed room, but in this case, two people are doing it, one after the other.)
Unfortunately, Yukio ran out of steam first, as he was a water elemental, not a lightning elemental.
"Finally caught you," Miyuki said, breathing heavily. The last few minutes had been intense.
They had been going at their maximum speeds and continuously changing directions, which required great effort since they needed high acceleration to reach such speeds in such a small room.
They also had to be conscious of where to step and the other person's location to plan their next move.
Yukio was also breathing heavily—no, it was more like he was inhaling air at this rate.
It looked like he might fall any moment now.
"Now, tell me what you were going to say," Miyuki demanded.
She hated suspense, especially the way Yukio had created it. It was like blue-balling.
Yukio felt a sense of déjà vu.
He was kind of pinned against the wall, his back pressed against it, with Miyuki's sword at his neck.
He remembered the same feeling when adult Miyuki had pinned him to question him.
'I think it was even the same sword. The only unfortunate thing is that Miyuki isn't the same,' Yukio lamented internally. There was no onee-chan type girl to bully him this time.
"I feel like you're thinking something you shouldn't," Miyuki's instincts were spot on.
She inched the sword closer to Yukio's neck.
'If I say what I thought, will she really slash her sword?' Yukio wondered. He doubted it since Miyuki wouldn't do that, given their long relationship.
'She wouldn't, right?' Unfortunately, Yukio was more unsure than Jiraiya when deciding which woman to focus on during his "research."
Miyuki sighed and removed her sword.
'I knew it, she wouldn't kill me,' Yukio celebrated internally.
Then his vision changed; he saw the floor, then the ceiling.
"I'm going to beat you up until you tell me," Miyuki said with a no-nonsense tone.
She had slammed Yukio on the floor and straddled him, her fist now covered in lightning.
It seemed Yukio had celebrated too soon.
"Fine, fine, I'll say it! Don't punch!" Yukio flailed his arms.
He was already struggling to breathe and didn't want to faint.
"Good," Miyuki smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes.
'What a violent woman,' Yukio rolled his eyes internally but didn't dare to do it outwardly.
He didn't want to be skinned alive.
"I think this position is inappropriate to say it," Yukio remarked, noting how Miyuki was technically straddling him.
If her fist wasn't covered in lightning, people would definitely interpret this situation differently.
Heck, Kakashi might even see it as Yukio and Miyuki being kinky.
"I don't care," Miyuki's temper was at its peak, so she didn't care.
'This wasn't how I was supposed to tell her,' Yukio lamented.
"Are you going to say it?" Miyuki's right hand sparked even more with concentrated lightning.
"Do you remember why we chose the left earring?"
Miyuki's eyes widened, her face full of disbelief.
"Wait, what do you mean? We don't even wear earrings," Miyuki said, trying to deny Yukio's indirect revelation.
It had to be a coincidence, right?
"I mean exactly what I'm saying. You were talking about reincarnation, right? So you should know the answer," Yukio said flatly, gauging her reaction.
"Fuuuck, I knew it..." Miyuki muttered excitedly as her earlier hypothesis was confirmed.
In her excitement, her lightning-covered fist slammed into the ground.
Yukio barely tilted his head in time.
The fist hit the floor, leaving a small crater.
He didn't care, though. He was waiting for the answer.
"So?" he asked, unfazed, as if he hadn't just narrowly avoided death.
Being with violent women like Miyuki and even Kushina at some point, he had gotten used to his life being in danger.
Even Mikoto could be violent if the wrong buttons were pressed.
No wonder he could control his facial expressions so well... because most of the time, he didn't feel much in the first place.
"Because we are not RIGHT," Miyuki smirked, and so did Yukio.
"Damn, since when?" Yukio asked.
"I think it was around Naru-chan's first birthday. What about you?"
"It was on his first birthday too—the day I was walking around naked. I got my memories back just before Kakashi ran after me."
"Hmm, wait, so Kakashi mentioning, 'I don't mind getting castrated by her,' was about me?" Miyuki deadpanned.
"Wait, no—I mean yes. I was talking about the day I died for being late."
"Ohhh, no wonder you were worried I'd castrate you... Maybe I should fulfil your delusions now?" Miyuki made a chopping motion.
"How about no? We have so many things to discuss before that," Yukio was genuinely scared this time.
Normally, he'd go along with the joke, but Miyuki's temper had shortened.
Not only that, but she was also in a teenager's body, where hormones were high, causing mood swings.
She might actually do it.
"Jeez, I was just joking. Did you really think I'd do it?" Miyuki smirked.
"Anyway, I guess that organization is still out there. Maybe we could find a way to travel back to that world if it's possible. I really want to destroy those fuckers," Yukio changed the subject, finally revealing his true emotions.
The killing intent he exuded now might have been the strongest of his entire life.
Killing intent, as mentioned before, depends on the chakra and emotions of the person.
It's possible for a genin's killing intent to surpass that of a jounin if their emotions are strong enough to bridge the chakra gap.
This is common in Uchihas or when a person is fighting to survive at the end of their life.
But instead of killing intent, it was mostly an intent born out of desperation, so the emotions felt should be at that level.
Yukio had suppressed his emotions about his death intentionally. He didn't want to think about it on purpose.
It was only going to hurt him in the long run since he had been powerless, with no means to do anything about it.
So, he had deliberately not thought about it since regaining his memories.
It's hard not to focus on that when he has lost the most precious person, but not impossible.
So, he adapted and went along with the flow of his current life.
Now that Miyuki had also technically reincarnated, he didn't feel much lamentation.
It might have been his fault that he didn't take enough precautions to prevent his death.
But now he could, so his entire hatred was directed at that organization.
"Jeez, chill. You were supposed to be the calm one," Miyuki said, placing her forehead against Yukio's.
Yukio calmed down after taking a few systematic breaths.
It was hard to control his emotions when he allowed them to flow.
"How do you think I died?" Miyuki asked him.
"Hmm, you probably died by going after that organization and losing due to lack of planning," Yukio chuckled.
Miyuki's temper had been like that even before.
Okay, maybe it had worsened now, but it wasn't that far off.
"Ouch!" Miyuki headbutted Yukio.
"I'm not that reckless. I took down the entire organization before I died. Actually, when I died, it was a miscalculation, so I went out with a bang."
"Huh?" Yukio blinked.
"Wait, what? Noooooo!" The disappointment in Yukio's voice was so obvious that Miyuki rolled her eyes.
"You don't like that?" Miyuki glared at Yukio.
"I wanted to kill them. I guess it's fine if you did it," Yukio sighed.
He would be lying if he said he didn't like the outcome.
But revenge is best served when you personally carry it out.
"I think I deserved that revenge more than you," Miyuki said, looking at Yukio.
"Hmm, I guess," Yukio responded. Miyuki had to actually live knowing that Yukio had died, and at that time, they didn't know about reincarnation.
So, it was like how a normal person dies.
Yukio couldn't really blame her since he would have done the same in her position.
"Anyway, let's have some breakfast," Miyuki said, getting up from Yukio.
Yukio also stood up.
"Yeah, let's go," Yukio followed her towards the door.
Both of them were happy today.
It was definitely a good day.
