Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Daimyo - I Really Want to Replace the Third Hokage
"We are different..."
In this situation, Shinki couldn't help but hum this lyric.
Snap!
The chopsticks in Tsunade's hand broke with a sharp sound. Jiraiya's face was full of black lines, and Orochimaru tilted his head curiously. This lyric seemed oddly fitting.
"What about Minato? Will he leave with you?" Jiraiya asked.
"No, Minato will stay in the village for now. I've arranged a learning task for him. He needs to master a variety of sealing techniques to lay a solid foundation for his future," Shinki explained.
"So, you're only taking Nawaki on this mission?"
"Exactly," Shinki confirmed.
Hearing that Minato would remain in the village to study, Jiraiya sighed in resignation. He had hoped to take Minato out for a bit of adventure, but there was no choice. Minato was far more perceptive and quick to learn compared to Nawaki.
In contrast, Nawaki was slow to grasp things, a quality Jiraiya found frustrating yet strangely familiar.
"Why does Nawaki remind me so much of myself when I was younger?" Jiraiya muttered to himself.
Eventually, Jiraiya left the village with Nawaki, albeit reluctantly. Nawaki, on the other hand, didn't seem too bothered. He was just sad to leave behind his best friend, the "Little Yellow-Haired Kid" Minato.
Once Jiraiya and Nawaki were gone, Tsunade also departed for her mission. Shinki didn't inquire about the specifics, trusting her capability to complete it successfully. Orochimaru, however, lingered a bit longer.
In the Fire Country's Daimyo Palace
Crash!
The sound of a valuable vase shattering echoed in the hall. The Daimyo, Daimyo, trembled with anger, his voice booming as he cursed, "What does Sarutobi Hiruzen think he's doing?"
Daimyo paced furiously. "Konoha and the Sand Village have successfully negotiated peace and ended the war. I didn't interfere with that. All I wanted was for Daimyo Mansion to lead the business partnership between Konoha and the Sand Village. Why did he reject me?"
As acting Hokage during the negotiations, Sarutobi Hiruzen had repeatedly sidelined Daimyo, denying his requests. Even during the peace talks, Daimyo's attempts to interfere in military matters were firmly rebuffed. Begrudgingly, he accepted this. He even complied with Konoha's demands for funding and handed over a hefty sum without delay.
But the final straw was Hiruzen's rejection of Daimyo Mansion's involvement in the Konoha-Sand Village business partnership. This opportunity would have allowed Daimyo to recoup losses sustained during the war. His proposal was dismissed outright, which infuriated him.
"To him, is there any difference between the cooperation of Konoha and the Sand Village and that of the Fire and Wind Countries?!" Daimyo raged.
There was indeed a difference, albeit minor. Whoever led the partnership stood to earn significantly more. Daimyo had hoped Daimyo Mansion could seize this advantage, but Hiruzen rejected the idea, citing potential risks to Konoha's autonomy. Letting Daimyo Mansion take the lead could weaken Konoha's position and divert crucial resources.
Daimyo, however, saw this as an insult.
"Even Hashirama Senju and Tobirama didn't treat me this poorly. Why does Sarutobi Hiruzen dare to?!" Daimyo's anger reached a boiling point, prompting him to smash his beloved vase. Guards, maids, and staff in the palace froze, terrified of becoming collateral damage in his rage.
After a long rant, Daimyo finally calmed down, taking a sip of wine to steady his temper. Turning to his staff, he asked, "Tell me, how should I deal with that insufferable Sarutobi Hiruzen?"
The staff exchanged nervous glances, wiping the sweat from their foreheads. One cautiously spoke up. "Your Highness, there has never been a precedent for removing a Hokage. The Daimyo Mansion lacks the authority to determine whether the Hokage is qualified to remain in power."
"Are you saying I have no choice but to endure this humiliation?" Daimyo growled.
"No, not at all!" the staff member stammered. "If the Hokage refuses to respect the Daimyo Mansion, we could consider discrediting him instead."
"Discredit him?" Daimyo put down his wine glass, his interest piqued. "What kind of dirt do you have on Sarutobi Hiruzen?"
The lead staff member hesitated. "Sarutobi Hiruzen enjoys a stellar reputation in Konoha and throughout the Land of Fire. However, we've noticed some questionable practices within the Sarutobi clan itself."
"What does the Sarutobi clan have to do with my problem?" Daimyo snapped. "I want to target Sarutobi Hiruzen, not waste time on his family!"
The staff member gulped, choosing his words carefully. "Your Highness, undermining his clan could weaken his standing in the village. It might be a starting point to diminish his influence."
Daimyo, consumed by his grudge, mulled over the suggestion. Though skeptical, he realized discrediting the Hokage might indeed be the only feasible route to settling the score.
