Naruto: The Medical Shinobi

Chapter 107: Chapter 105: Not enough information

The midday sun blazed overhead, casting a golden glow across the lush green backside lawn of the Hamura residence.

Ryu stood in the centre, his face a mask of intense concentration. Between his thumb and forefinger, he delicately held a dry leaf.

The academy's holiday provided the perfect opportunity for uninterrupted training, and Ryu was determined to make the most of it. He can now generate small sparks without rubbing his hands, but not all the time. Additionally, it requires too much concentration without rubbing his hands, but he was gradually improving.

As he focused his chakra, a familiar tingle of electricity danced along his skin. The sensation was exhilarating, like tiny bolts of lightning crackling just beneath the surface. Raising his free hand, palm facing the leaf, he slowly brought it closer, his breath steady, his mind sharp.

Tiny sparks flickered between his fingers, growing in intensity as they neared the fragile leaf. Just as the edges of the leaf began to curl and smoke, a voice cut through the air, shattering his concentration.

"Ryu," someone spoke.

Startled, Ryu's head snapped up; he recognised the voice. "Mother Yuki!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with genuine happiness. Her arrival was unexpected but welcome.

"What are you doing out here on the lawn, Ryu?" she asked.

A mischievous grin spread across Ryu's face. "Let me show you," he said, his voice brimming with excitement. He held up the leaf once more, this time with renewed focus.

Ryu wanted to impress her, to show her how far he had come. Dr. Yuki watched as he generated a small spark in his hands, carefully moving it towards the leaf. Within seconds, the dry foliage ignited, crumbling to ash in his palm.

Dr. Yuki's eyes widened in astonishment. "Lightning affinity!" she gasped. "How long have you been practicing this?"

Ryu brushed the ash of the dry leaf from his hands as he replied, "I started learning about my lightning affinity five days ago. For the past three days, I've been working on steps two and three of the training."

Dr. Yuki's shock only deepened. She knew that lightning affinity was rare in Konoha, and to see such progress in such a short time was nothing short of remarkable. Her mind raced with possibilities, recalling the few lightning users she had encountered in her medical career. Then she saw a lightning rod.

She thought, "Usually kids don't get accustomed to lighting using this method. I guess Dan wants to speed up the process."

A thoughtful expression crossed her face as she continued, "You know, lightning affinity can be particularly useful for a medical ninja. With proper control, it can even be used to restart a heart on the battlefield."

Ryu nodded, carefully hiding the fact that he was already aware of this information. Internally, his mind raced with possibilities. "I guess you can't expect defibrillators lying around on a battlefield; lightning affinity will be handy in such a scenario," he thought. "It really is an excellent affinity for a medical ninja. Additionally, if there are defibrillators, I should research them and make them portable."

He mentally prepared a note for himself to create a portable defibrillator later in his life. He already knew how to; it was just a matter of attempting it in this life.

His thoughts drifted to the original story after the chunnin exam. He recalled how Kabuto had been temporarily paralysed by Lady Tsunade's lightning jutsu and how his limb control was totally randomised by an attack on his nervous system using lightning. A triumphant smile played at the corners of his mouth as he considered the potential applications of his affinity.

'If that Uchiha brat doesn't stop bothering me, I might have a solution,' he mused. 'But it's not as simple as it seems. Paralysing without causing unconsciousness or causing any damage would require extreme precision and an understanding of the nervous system. Fortunately for me, I have extensive knowledge of human anatomy from my previous life. But still, I have to go over everything again to fully understand the slight differences in human anatomy between this world and my previous one."

Dr. Yuki noticed the change in Ryu's expression. "What are you thinking about?" she asked, a hint of amusement in her voice. "You're smiling like you've just thought of some grand scheme."

Ryu quickly studied his features. "Oh, nothing really," he said, trying to sound nonchalant. "I just had an idea about how to deal with bullies."

Ryu said, "Speaking of bullies, did you know I met Kaito at the academy the other day?"

Dr. Yuki's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Kaito? Oh, right, he joined the Leaf Ninja Academy. He's in Class B. So you have met him already."

"Yeah, I met him in the academy corridor," Ryu confirmed.

Dr. Yuki nodded with a proud smile on her face. "After you left, he worked incredibly hard to improve himself. He even lost some weight. Seeing his determination, I decided to help him out a bit. In the end, he managed to pass the academic entrance test."

"Good for him; he wanted to be a ninja just like his father. I guess he's halfway to fulfilling his dream," Ryu said, genuinely impressed by Kaito's transformation.

"There's more," Dr. Yuki continued, her voice taking on a more serious tone.

"Kaito has left the orphanage now. He's supporting himself by working part-time while attending the academy." Her eyes softened as she added, "If you see him struggling, please help him out, Ryu."

Ryu nodded solemnly. "Of course I would. I'm not the type to hold onto childish grudges."

Dr. Yuki's smile widened, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I know you're not, but I had to ask. All the children from the orphanage are like my own. It's only natural for me to worry about them."

"Especially when it comes to a troublemaker like Kaito," Ryu quipped, a mischievous glint in his eye.

Dr. Yuki let out a laugh. The sound was light and melodious. "Oh, you're one to talk! You're quite the troublemaker yourself."

Their laughter faded into a comfortable silence before Ryu's curiosity got the better of him. "So, what brings you here today, Mother Yuki? It must be important for you to leave both the orphanage and the hospital."

Dr. Yuki replied, "Ohh, i came to see you and see how much progress you have made. By the way, i am impressed."

Ryu replied, "Thank you so much, Mother Yuki."

Just then, the front door of the Hamura residence opened, and Dan stepped out onto the porch. His eyebrows raised in surprise as he spotted Dr. Yuki. "Well, this is an unexpected pleasure," he said warmly, making his way down to join them on the lawn.

"Dan," Dr. Yuki said with a smile. "I hope you don't mind me dropping by unannounced. I brought some study materials for Ryu."

Dan's eyes sparkled with interest as he looked at the scroll in Ryu's hands. "Not at all. It's always a pleasure to see you, Yuki. And I'm sure Ryu too appreciates seeing you."

As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the lawn, Dr. Yuki prepared to leave. "Keep up the good work, Ryu," she said, giving him a warm hug. "And remember, knowledge is what makes a truly great medical ninja, so don't just focus on your training and find time to study also."

Ryu nodded. "I'll remember, Mother Yuki."

Dr. Yuki's eyes lit up as she reached into her bag. "Ah, yes! I almost forgot." She pulled out a scroll. Holding it out to Ryu, she explained, "This contains detailed books on medicine and human anatomy. I thought you could use them to start your medical training by studying about the human body in detail."

Dr. Yuki remarked, "The scroll also contains the medical foundational texts on herbs and medicine making basics."

Ryu opened the scroll, but he found out that it was a Fuinjutsu Storage Scroll, not a simple text scroll. After taking a closer look at the scroll, Ryu remarked, "I do not know how to use the summoning scroll yet."

"You have a capable grandfather at home to support you, so that will not be a problem," Dr. Yuki said.

Dr. Yuki asked Dan, "Would you do the honour and show young Ryu how to use the summoning scroll?" glancing at him with a knowing smile.

Dan replied, "Yeah! Sure."

Dan took the scroll from Ryu's hands, and he unrolled it on the lawn. Ryu looked at him carefully as he activated his powers. The intricate seal patterns seemed to shimmer in the fading sunlight, hinting at the knowledge contained within.

- Seal patterns recorded but could not be decoded

- Not enough information

Ryu's subconscious mind told him that this was still beyond his grasp as of now.

"Watch closely, Ryu," Dan said, his voice taking on the tone of a seasoned teacher.

Ryu leaned in, his eyes wide with anticipation of seeing his first space-time jutsu. This was just the beginning. The first of many space-time Ninjutsu he would learn.
