Chapter 123: Chapter 121: Welcome to the Mind Palace

As Ryu made his way home, his mind buzzed with excitement. He couldn't wait to share his latest idea to deal with spies with his grandfather. His grandfather greeted him as he entered the house.

"Welcome home, Ryu," Dan greeted with twinkling eyes. "How was your day?"

Ryu shrugged, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "Boring, as usual. The Uchiha brats are still trying to beat me. You'd think they'd have given up by now."

Dan's laughter filled the room, rich and hearty. "Uchiha brats. That was a good one. You sound like an old man."

He continued, "Their obsessiveness hasn't changed since ancient times. As a subordinate clan of the Senju, we Hamuras have been at odds with them for generations."

His expression softened as he advised, "Don't take them too seriously, Ryu; after all, they're just kids."

Ryu thought inside, "I'm a kid too."

Dan moved his attention to a different topic and became more serious in his tone and asked Ryu, "How is your progress with those fuinjutsu seals I gave you?"

With a proud tone in his voice, Ryu answered, "I have studied them thoroughly, but I have not tried to craft or execute them yet. I wanted to make sure I fully grasped everything before I attempted to apply them."

Dan nodded approvingly. "Good. I'm glad you're heeding my warning about newly learnt seals." He paused, then added, "But since I am here now, why don't we try creating one? Let us begin by applying a privacy seal."

Ryu was bursting with excitement as he took out his Fujitsu paper. As he began to craft the seal, he found himself guided by augmented projections that seemed to hover just above the paper's surface. Even though it was Ryu's first time creating a privacy seal, he did not take too long.

Once finished, Dan tested the seal. It functioned perfectly, blocking sound and blurring visuals without creating a physical barrier. "Well done, Ryu," Dan praised. "Like before, you didn't take much time. As if you have attempted it many times before now."

"Well, I practiced it in my mind," Ryu enquired.

Dan thought and wondered, "How does one practice inside his mind?"

Dan then enquired, "Have you attempted to modify the seal in your mind as well?"

Ryu hesitated before saying, "I have some rough ideas, but I haven't attempted anything yet. Also, as you have asked, I would also prefer not to try the experimental seal without you."

"Oh?" Dan's curiosity piqued. "What ideas do you have?"

Ryu asked him, "Grandpa, what message does it send when someone uses a privacy seal on their home?"

Dan stroked his beard thoughtfully. Normally, it suggests they have something to hide. Many ninja clans still use privacy seals. They do this under the guise of the Secret Jutsu Act to protect secret jutsu from being leaked while training their young. But for civilian ninjas or families like ours, using such seals could draw unwanted attention from the Leaf Police Force and ANBU. It is a fundamental problem with all the privacy seals."

"Exactly," Ryu nodded, a mischievous glint in his eye. "But what if the privacy seal didn't work as intended... but the other way around?"

Dan's brow furrowed. "I don't understand. What are you getting at, Ryu?"

A sly smile played on Ryu's lips. "What if, instead of blocking vision or sound, we allowed it... but with a twist?"

"Don't keep me in suspense, boy," Dan chuckled, his interest clearly piqued. "What are you getting at?"

"I want to develop a seal that gives people who keep staring in our direction for more than a few minutes excruciating headaches and makes them lose focus and feel dizzy," Ryu explained, his eyes shining with excitement. "It would be a subtle way to deter unwanted attention without raising suspicion. Much suspicion. They will have to pay a price for spying on us."

Dan stared at his grandson for a long moment before breaking into a wide grin. "That's bloody brilliant! And not to mention delightfully petty. They won't be able to stare at our house for too long."

He continued grabbing his chin, "If we time the headaches right, it won't look much more suspicious compared to a regular privacy seal. Some people might be suspicious, but it's still better than other privacy seals. It's brilliant as a concept, but this won't be easy to create. How do you plan to do it?"

Ryu's smile widened as he shared, "Actually, I encountered something new at the academy today that could assist me in creating this new privacy seal."

Dan thought for a second and asked Ryu, "I want to see you work. Would you show me how you attempt to craft a new seal?".

As a Fuinjutsu Grandmaster himself, who had not progressed in terms of knowledge for many years, Dan was very interested in the way Ryu brought new ideas to life. To get a new outlook and fresh perspective on Fuinjutsu, he directly asked him for a demonstration.

Ryu smiled. He had previously thought of a brilliant idea that could just give Dan what he wanted and show him how Ryu worked on his problems. But he did not work on this idea then.

Ryu said, "Would you like to see how I do things, Grandpa?" Intrigued, Dan nodded.

Ryu willed his mind to overclock itself for.

- [Temporary Enhance] running on [Fast Thinking] and [Parallel Thinking]

- [Overclocking] enabled

- Deconstructing [Genjutsu: Recurring Nightmares]

- Going through data gathered earlier

- Constructing new visual Genjutsu for desired application

- Error: Not enough chakra control for long-distance execution

- Suggesting solutions: Using short-range triggers using physical touch

- Success: New genjutsu created

- Genjutsu: Mind Palace Projection

- New Genjutsu saved in the [Mind Palace].

[Genjutsu: Mind Palace Projection]: It affects the occipital lobe and projects Mind Palace through physical touch. Anyone touching the host while Mind Palace is active will allow the user to experience the world of Mind Palace from his own point of view inside it.

A jolt of headache formed in his head as Ryu willed his overclocking to stop, thinking, "Now I will be able to work on Fuinjutsu together with Grandpa in [Mind Palace]. I will work on the Wi-Fi version of it later on."

- [Overclocking] disabled.

"Please put your hand on my shoulder, Grandpa; I must warn you it could be a little overwhelming." Ryu turned and showed him his back.

Dan was confused but complied. However, the moment he placed his hand on Ryu's back, he sensed a shift in his chakra flow.

"Genjutsu," he murmured, recognising the technique.

Ryu had only recently learnt Genjutsu and was still unable to use it discreetly or without making physical contact. But with the help of this Genjutsu, he plans to show his grandfather how he crafts seals in [Mind Palace].

Ryu whispered, "Do not resist, Grandpa. It is a simple Genjutsu to give you visual feedback from my point of view. This is my second time doing it. If you resist, I won't be able to show you. So just relax and go with it."

"When did you learn genjutsu?" Dan asked.

Without a hint of arrogance, Ryu replied, "Today."

Dan was shocked, but not as shocked as he was about to be.

The room around them began to widen, then fade into darkness. Suddenly, Dan found himself surrounded by an enormous void, with countless bubbles floating around them. It was as if they had stepped into an entirely new world.

"It's beautiful. What is this place?" Dan asked, awe evident in his voice.

*Ryu guided him forward, and as they moved, the cluster of bubbles shifted, responding to Ryu's intentions. A group of new glowing bubbles floated towards them. Ryu grabbed a bubble and passed it to his grandfather.

"Take a look, Grandpa," Ryu urged.

Dan took the bubble and examined a bubble and a pop-up screen with a description materialised beside it.

"Single Flame barrier seal," he read the pop-up description aloud, recognising it as one of the seals he had recently taught Ryu.

As Dan reached out to touch the pop-up screen, it expanded into a big display. The seal pattern appeared, accompanied by additional screens of information on the sides as multiple pop-up displays.

"This is..." Dan began, but Ryu interrupted.

"It's all the information about the one-element barrier seal that I've learnt and recorded in my mind," Ryu explained. "This place... well, it's inside my head. But I like to call it something else."

Ryu continued, his voice filled with pride, "Here, I can visualise and manipulate seal components in ways that would be impossible in the physical world. Pretty neat, right?"

Dan's eyes widen as understanding dawns on him.

A broad smile spread across Ryu's face as he made a sweeping gesture with his arm, materialising a new screen with a welcome message on it, and behind it, fireworks lit up in the void.

"Welcome to the Mind Palace, Grandpa. You're the first person besides me to enter this place," Ryu said with pride.
