Chapter 104: Chapter : 106
After leaving the Iwasaki family's residence while disguised as Iwasaki Souji, Fugaku used the Mayfly Technique to sneak back inside. Moving silently through the underground shadows, he returned to the study where he had confronted "Iwasaki Yu."
Hiding within the wall's darkness, he watched carefully as the supposed Iwasaki Yu stood in the center of the room.
With a subtle puff of smoke, the figure dissolved—it was indeed a shadow clone.
"So cautious," Fugaku thought grimly. "If I'd attacked earlier, my cover would have been blown for nothing."
Without hesitation, Fugaku used the Yamanaka Clan's perception abilities to pinpoint the real Iwasaki Yu. He detected the presence of another chakra signature deeper within the mansion and immediately moved toward it, still using the Mayfly Technique to remain hidden.
In a quiet room at the far end of the estate, the real Iwasaki Yu sat alone, reviewing documents. Unlike his shadow clone, this Yu wore a look of steely concentration, his guard subtly raised even in the safety of his private quarters.
"How paranoid," Fugaku noted, observing the clan head from below the floor. "I'll have to attack now. If I wait for him to sleep, it'll take too long—and the other assassinations I've carried out tonight might already be discovered."
He weighed his options. While an attack during sleep would ensure less resistance, it also increased the risk of Iwasaki Yu fortifying his defenses if the alarm spread.
"There's no time to delay. I'll strike now."
With the decision made, Fugaku emerged from the floor.
"Who's there?!" Iwasaki Yu's instincts flared the moment Fugaku broke through the surface. His eyes narrowed as he instinctively backed away, his hands reaching for a kunai.
"Help!" Iwasaki Yu bellowed. "An intruder—!"
Hearing their clan head's cry, the Iwasaki guards outside the mansion immediately reacted.
"Something's wrong!" one of them shouted.
Without wasting a moment, they rushed toward the commotion. The sound of pounding footsteps echoed through the estate as guards prepared for battle.
Inside the room, Fugaku cursed under his breath. The element of surprise was lost, and his chances of a silent assassination had vanished.
"No matter. He won't survive long enough for them to reach him."
With that thought, Fugaku activated his Mangekyō Sharingan, locking eyes with Iwasaki Yu. The hypnotic effect of the Sharingan took hold instantly, freezing Iwasaki Yu in place.
"Hypnosis."
The clan head's movements ceased. His body stood rigid, his expression slack and empty as the genjutsu overwhelmed him.
Wasting no time, Fugaku formed a rapid series of hand seals. "Wood Release: Grafting Technique!"
A sharp, wooden spike sprouted from his palm. In a swift motion, Fugaku thrust the spike into Iwasaki Yu's chest.
The wood expanded immediately, splitting into countless branches that tore through Iwasaki Yu's organs, including his heart and brain.
Blood pooled on the floor as the life drained from Iwasaki Yu's body. The head of the Iwasaki family was dead before he could even register the pain.
Crash!
The sound of windows and walls shattering filled the room as the Iwasaki guards finally breached the building. Dozens of shinobi poured into the space, their eyes falling on the lifeless body of their clan head—and the dark figure standing over him.
"It's him!" one of them shouted. "The Wood Release user!"
Another guard, his voice trembling with fury, added, "He killed the head of the family! Kill him!"
The guards lunged at Fugaku as one, their weapons flashing in the dim light.
Fugaku didn't hesitate. "Mayfly Technique!"
His body melted into the ground, disappearing just before the first kunai reached him. The guards' blades clashed against the floor, but Fugaku was already gone.
"He's underground!" one of the guards barked. "If you know Earth Release, dig him out!"
"On it!" another guard shouted, forming hand seals. "Earth Release: Earth Flow Cut!"
The ground split open, revealing deep cracks that tore through the room and extended into the mansion's foundations. But Fugaku's mastery of the Mayfly Technique allowed him to avoid detection, moving silently through the earth.
"Damn it, he's fast!" another guard growled. "We need to widen the search area!"
As the guards worked frantically to track him, Fugaku remained calm, though his focus was razor-sharp. "I've made enough noise. The longer I stay here, the riskier it gets."
The disruption didn't end with the immediate guards. Shinobi from other parts of the estate had also been alerted by the commotion. As they converged on the scene, their combined efforts made Fugaku's escape even more challenging.
"Earth Release: Earth Splitting Palm!" one shinobi yelled, slamming his hands to the ground.
The earth beneath the estate trembled violently, the resulting fissures threatening to expose Fugaku's hidden path. Dust and debris filled the air as portions of the mansion began to collapse.
"There!" a guard shouted, pointing toward a faint chakra signature leaking from the ground. "He's heading east! Don't let him escape!"
Fugaku clicked his tongue. Despite his best efforts to suppress his chakra, the large-scale Earth Release techniques had momentarily disrupted the Mayfly Technique, making his presence detectable for a brief second.
As the pursuit intensified, Fugaku pushed the Mayfly Technique to its absolute limit, his body moving like a shadow through the earth. He knew he couldn't afford to surface yet—the moment he did, he would be swarmed by the enraged Iwasaki clan.
"I underestimated them. Iwasaki's paranoia wasn't just an act—his clan was prepared for something like this."
Still, Fugaku wasn't panicked. His mind worked quickly, analyzing the situation. "Their numbers are too great, but they're disorganized. If I can break their formation, I can create an opening to escape."
Above ground, the Iwasaki guards were growing increasingly desperate. The loss of their clan head had thrown them into disarray, their emotions clouding their judgment.
"Seal the perimeter!" one of the senior guards barked, trying to restore order. "Don't let him leave the estate!"
"It's too late," another guard muttered grimly. "If he's using Earth Release, he could already be far beyond the compound."
"Then we'll destroy the entire area if we have to!" the senior guard snapped. "This monster killed our clan head. He cannot be allowed to escape!"
Deep underground, Fugaku smirked to himself. "Destroy the entire area? That only confirms how desperate they are. They've already lost control."
With that thought, Fugaku began to manipulate his escape route, moving toward a cluster of weaker chakra signatures. If he could break through the outer defenses, his chances of slipping away undetected would increase significantly.
