Chapter 82: Chapter 82: The Riot in the Police Station
The day after Boruto and Sasuke left, Kirito, fresh from an operation at Konoha Hospital, spotted two familiar figures being carried on stretchers—Asuma and Kurenai.
"What happened to them?" Kirito asked, surprised, turning to the medical ninja carrying the stretchers.
"There was a riot at the police station," the medic replied. "The two were injured by escaping prisoners."
"Injured by prisoners?" Kirito couldn't believe it. Two elite Jonin, taken down by a group of prisoners, was almost unthinkable.
"Yes, the prisoners from the entire facility have escaped and scattered throughout the village. Hokage-sama has ordered all available shinobi to assist in their capture."
This is serious, Kirito thought. Though the events didn't match anything from the timeline he recalled, he decided it was worth investigating.
"Bring them inside," Kirito instructed. "I'll treat them."
As Tsunade's disciple and a skilled medical ninja, Kirito's authority in Konoha Hospital was unquestioned. The medics obeyed without hesitation.
With Kirito's expertise, Asuma and Kurenai were quickly restored to full health.
"This is incredible," Asuma marveled, examining his completely healed body. Just hours ago, he and Kurenai had been overwhelmed by a riot of prisoners, including a pair of exceptionally dangerous brothers. He hadn't expected to recover so quickly.
"As expected of Tsunade-sama's disciple," Kurenai agreed as she tested her movement. "I feel like I wasn't even injured."
"I won't ask about the details for now. Let's report to Tsunade-sama together," Kirito said.
"Right. We have important information to share," Asuma added.
Before they could leave, Tsunade entered the ward, her eyes scanning the scene. Seeing Asuma and Kurenai fully recovered, she immediately understood who had treated them.
"As expected of a genius who awakened Wood Release," Tsunade thought with a hint of pride. She could admit that Kirito's medical techniques now surpassed her own in many ways.
After confirming Asuma and Kurenai were fit to leave, Tsunade asked them to recount what had happened. Their explanation revealed the extent of the crisis.
The riot had begun when Tsunade ordered a deeper investigation into Mizuki's connection with Orochimaru. Initially dismissed as an opportunistic thief attempting to steal the Scroll of Seals, Mizuki was now suspected of being involved in Orochimaru's schemes.
Tsunade had sent Asuma and Kurenai to interrogate Mizuki at the police station, but they arrived to find the prisoners had been released. After defeating the guards, the prisoners used hostages to corner the two Jonin, eventually overpowering them and escaping.
Mizuki playing a bigger role? That's unexpected, Kirito thought. In his memories, Mizuki was little more than a minor antagonist whose actions helped Naruto learn the Shadow Clone Jutsu. He hadn't expected Mizuki to cause this much trouble.
Tsunade summarized the situation. "I've received reports that many prisoners have fled into the village. Asuma, Kurenai, your task is to assist in their capture. The longer they're loose, the greater the danger to Konoha."
"Yes, Hokage-sama!" they responded, clearly eager to redeem themselves.
Tsunade then turned to Kirito. "You, come with me."
"Yes, Tsunade-sama."
As they left, Naruto suddenly burst into the ward, struggling against several medics holding him back.
"Let me go! I heard you mention Orochimaru!" Naruto yelled, his voice filled with urgency.
Tsunade sighed. Naruto had clearly overheard her conversation with Asuma. She knew that anything related to Orochimaru or Sasuke would trigger him like a siren.
"This mission doesn't concern you, Naruto," Tsunade said firmly. "Go back and focus on your training."
"No way!" Naruto retorted. "If it's about Orochimaru, then it's about Sasuke. I have to help!"
Tsunade softened her tone, trying to reason with him. "Listen, Naruto. This situation isn't just about Sasuke anymore. You're not strong enough to handle this alone. Let others take care of it."
Kirito, observing from the side, couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. If anyone else acted like this, Tsunade would've knocked their head off by now. Naruto really does get special treatment.
Before Tsunade could stop him, Naruto bolted. "I'll find Shizune and get the information myself!" he shouted, racing out the door.
Tonton, Shizune's pig, suddenly appeared, squealing in panic.
"Tonton, what's wrong?" Tsunade asked. The pig squealed urgently, conveying that Shizune was in danger.
"Shizune?" Naruto said. "Is she in trouble?"
Tonton squealed again, and Naruto interpreted it as confirmation. "Got it! First, I'll save Shizune. Then I'll track down Orochimaru and bring Sasuke back!"
Before Tsunade could stop him, Naruto ran off with Tonton.
"Kirito," Tsunade said, exasperated, "please keep an eye on him. He's going to get himself killed."
"Understood," Kirito replied. "Should I handle Mizuki as well?"
"Yes," Tsunade said. "Be careful—there are two particularly dangerous prisoners who might still be with him."
With a nod, Kirito vanished, heading after Naruto.
"Kirito?!" Naruto exclaimed as Kirito suddenly appeared beside him.
"Tsunade-sama asked me to watch over you," Kirito explained. "Let's find Shizune together."
"Great! With you here, I know we'll succeed!" Naruto said enthusiastically. Though determined, he knew Orochimaru was far beyond his abilities. Having Kirito along boosted his confidence.
Tonton squealed loudly, leading the way. When they reached a clearing, Kirito scooped Naruto and Tonton under his arms and leapt onto the treetops, moving at incredible speed.
"Wha—ahhh!" Naruto yelled as the wind roared in his ears, the scenery blurring around him.
