Chapter 21: Chapter 21: The Death of Danzo
Amidst Shimura Danzo's agonized screams, a bloodied eyeball was gouged out by Tobirama's fingers, leaving Danzo's eye socket hollow and gruesome.
Danzo lay on the ground, his limbs severed, blood oozing from his empty eye socket. The sight was so ghastly that even the two seasoned Special Jonin, accustomed to carnage, couldn't suppress a shiver.
The Second Hokage's methods were nothing short of ruthless.
Danzo, now blind in one eye, continued to wail in pain. His vision, already compromised, was blurred beyond recognition. Yet none of that mattered.
After losing Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan, Danzo knew his end was inevitable.
Hopelessness consumed him, he no longer had the will to resist.
The agony of losing his limbs and an eye had numbed him completely.
"Danzo," Tobirama spoke coldly, "when you reach the afterlife, make sure to atone to all those you wronged."
With his limbs severed and resistance futile, even the Reverse Four Symbols Sealing Technique etched onto his body could no longer activate.
Tobirama's hand formed a spear-like thrust aimed directly at Danzo's heart.
"Splurt!"
The sound of a heart being pierced echoed ominously.
And with that, the shadow of Konoha lost his life.
"Hokage-sama! What's going on here?"
Konoha's Military Police Force arrived late to the scene, only to find Tobirama standing amidst the remnants of a violent battle. All the remaining Root members had already been subdued by him.
"Shimura Danzo, a Konoha advisor, attempted rebellion and has been personally executed by me."
Tobirama's words were calm, yet they sent shockwaves through the assembled shinobi. None of them dared to believe what they had just heard.
"Th-this… how could Danzo-sama…"
The leader of the Military Police Force stammered, visibly shaken. However, under Tobirama's icy gaze, he dared not press further.
"Take Danzo's corpse to the Interrogation Force. Have the Yamanaka Clan inspect his mind. Additionally, all Root members are to be detained and thoroughly interrogated!"
"Understood!"
The Konoha police squad quickly followed his orders.
With Danzo, the greatest thorn in his side, now dealt with, Tobirama finally felt a sense of relief.
As the others looked on in awe and reverence, Tobirama turned and departed without another word.
"Danzo is dead? The teacher did it?"
In a hidden conference room, the remnants of Konoha's elder council—Homura Mitokado, Koharu Utatane, and Hiruzen Sarutobi—gathered, utterly stunned by the news of Danzo's demise.
"Hiruzen," Homura said gravely, "after everything you've allowed over these years, stepping down might not be enough to appease the teacher."
"Danzo…" Hiruzen closed his eyes, reflecting on the friend and rival he had clashed with for so many years.
"Hiruzen, you'll regret this!"
"Danzo, I am the Hokage!"
Their past conversations echoed vividly in his mind, but that was all they were now—memories.
"Homura, Koharu, Danzo rebelled against the teacher. His death is justified. I, Hiruzen Sarutobi, have no complaints. At this point, I harbor no grievances with the teacher's decisions."
Hiruzen's voice was heavy, tinged with resignation. "During my years as Hokage, I made countless mistakes. I turned a blind eye to Danzo's atrocities and tolerated far too much. If the teacher has asked me to step down, then so be it."
He glanced at his old comrades and continued with uncharacteristic sincerity,
"You two should let go of your obsession with power. We're not young anymore. It's time to pass the torch to the next generation."
Homura and Koharu stared at him in disbelief, shocked by the sudden shift in his demeanor.
"I won't tell the teacher about your involvement in Danzo's schemes, but that doesn't mean he won't find out. Be careful."
With that, Hiruzen rose and left the room, leaving the other two elders exchanging uneasy glances.
...
Hokage's Office
Tobirama returned quietly, finding Shikaku Nara still buried in paperwork, diligently cleaning up the mess left behind.
"Shikaku, there's something I need to inform you of."
Shikaku looked up, his expression calm but curious. "Yes, Hokage-sama?"
"Shimura Danzo, a former advisor to the Hokage, has been executed for treason. You will take his place moving forward."
Tobirama's tone was as composed as ever, as if he were discussing a routine matter.
"W-what!?"
