Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Fall of Konoha’s F4
The ANBU ninja knelt on one knee before Tobirama. After delivering their report, they remained silent, awaiting the Hokage's decision.
"The councillors? You mean Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu?"
Tobirama lowered his head, deep in thought. Those two, along with Sarutobi Hiruzen, hadn't even attended his Hokage inauguration. Could they be holding a grudge against him for killing Danzo?
He raised his head, looking at the ANBU. "Bring them here."
With that, Tobirama turned and walked into the Hokage Office, settling into his chair with a heavy thud.
Not long after, the sound of slow, deliberate footsteps echoed through the hall. Soon, Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu entered, their expressions unreadable. Following behind them was none other than Sarutobi Hiruzen.
Hiruzen, who had been living in retirement since stepping down as Hokage, had seemingly found companionship with his old classmates.
"Sensei," the three greeted him respectfully.
"What's the matter?" Tobirama's tone was straightforward and cold, clearly not in the mood for nostalgic pleasantries.
Homura and Koharu exchanged surprised glances. They hadn't expected Tobirama to be so distant.
After a brief pause, Homura stepped forward with a strained smile.
"Sensei, it's truly a joy for Konoha that you've returned and reclaimed leadership as Hokage. Under your wise guidance, Konoha is bound to—"
"Spare me the flattery. Speak your mind."
Homura's attempts at buttering him up were cut short by Tobirama's sharp interruption. Tobirama's patience wasn't something he intended to waste on their platitudes.
Homura faltered for a moment before reluctantly continuing.
"Well then, Sensei, I'll get straight to the point. Wasn't your execution of Danzo too… harsh? After all, he was your student. He served Konoha dutifully for years. Now that you've killed him, his reputation has been utterly tarnished. The entire village views him as nothing but a villain.
"And… giving the Hokage Advisor position to the Nara Clan? That's… concerning. With their alliance with the Akimichi and Yamanaka clans, their power could grow unchecked. It may lead to dissent in the future. Sensei, don't you think this approach is too—"
"Enough!"
Tobirama slammed his palm onto the desk with such force that it shattered into pieces, scattering debris across the room.
The sudden display of power silenced the trio. Homura and Koharu's faces turned pale as they froze in place.
Tobirama rose from his seat, his imposing stature towering over the hunched elders like an adult towering over children. A palpable sense of dominance filled the room, forcing beads of cold sweat to form on the elders' foreheads.
"Oh? So you think Danzo was a paragon of virtue?" Tobirama's voice was laced with biting sarcasm.
"Was his 'dedication' the reason he sent assassins to intercept the Hokage's envoy to the Land of Fire? Or… were the two of you involved in that decision as well?"
His piercing gaze bore into them as he stepped closer, his questions relentless. The two councillors instinctively backed away, trembling.
"N-no, Sensei! That's impossible! We're loyal to you! That was all Danzo's doing!" They stammered over their words, eager to shift all blame onto their former ally.
Tobirama stopped in his tracks, his sudden stillness offering a momentary reprieve. The councillors let out shaky breaths, thinking they'd avoided disaster.
"Guards! Arrest these two—Danzo's accomplices!"
The command was as cold as ice, and the elders' expressions instantly darkened.
"Arrest us? Sensei, do you understand what you're saying? Without us, who would serve on the Konoha Council? Who would support your position as Hokage?!"
Their protests were futile. The ANBU behind them had already stepped forward, bags in hand.
Thud! Thud!
Two dull sounds echoed as Homura and Koharu were knocked unconscious.
"Take them to the Interrogation Unit. Have the Yamanaka Clan examine their minds. If they're innocent, we'll release them," Tobirama said coolly.
With a swift nod, the ANBU carried the unconscious elders away, leaving only Sarutobi Hiruzen behind in the now-empty office.
The silence hung heavily as Hiruzen stood there, a solitary figure dwarfed by the room's vastness.
He wasn't surprised by the outcome—after all, Homura and Koharu had indeed been complicit in Danzo's schemes.
But still… the teacher who now sat on the Hokage's chair was no longer the same man he remembered.
