Chapter 165: Ch.165 Closest Friend
Hidden Leaf Hospital.
"Leave the rest of the care to you."
A firm female voice echoed through the hospital room.
"Yes!"
The medical shinobi in the room nodded respectfully in unison.
A figure then walked out of the room.
Outside the hospital room, Jiraiya, leaning against the wall, asked the figure emerging from the room, "Tsunade, how is that Uchiha kid?"
Without a doubt, the figure that had just walked out of the room was none other than Tsunade, one of the "Three Legendary Sannin" alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru.
The shinobi world was in upheaval recently.
The Third Hokage, preparing for possible battles, had not only recalled Jiraiya from his travels but also had Jiraiya convince Tsunade to return to the village.
Unlike the original timeline, the Third Hokage had not died in Orochimaru's "Konoha Crush" plan, so Jiraiya's return with Tsunade was not to make her the Fifth Hokage.
Thus, Tsunade had reluctantly agreed to return to the village under Jiraiya's persistent persuasion.
As for treating Sasuke, it was merely a side task, so Tsunade casually replied, "It was tricky, but I managed. He should wake up today."
"That's good to hear!" Jiraiya smiled. "That Uchiha kid in there is a genius who awakened the three-tomoe Sharingan at seven years old. The old man is quite fond of him!"
"A three-tomoe at seven?"
Tsunade glanced back at the Uchiha Sasuke lying on the hospital bed.
Even she couldn't hide her surprise upon hearing that.
Then she asked Jiraiya, "If that kid already has a three-tomoe Sharingan, he should be one of the most talented Uchiha in decades. Why did he suffer such severe mental damage? If I'm not mistaken, his injuries seem to be from a genjutsu, right?"
Jiraiya nodded slightly, "Yes, the one who hurt him was none other than his older brother, the one who wiped out the entire Uchiha clan."
"Uchiha Itachi?" Tsunade furrowed her brow, saying, "I heard he's joined the Akatsuki?"
"That's right!" Jiraiya nodded, then added with some frustration, "And within the Akatsuki, there are at least three Uchiha with Mangekyo Sharingan. Uchiha Itachi is just one of them."
"Why has the shinobi world suddenly seen so many Mangekyo Sharingan users?" Tsunade muttered, then waved her hand dismissively. "Never mind, it's not my concern anyway."
With that, Tsunade headed toward the hospital exit.
Jiraiya quickly followed, saying, "Since we've finally gotten you back, the old man won't let you leave so easily!"
Tsunade scoffed, "Anything related to the Uchiha is always trouble. I don't want to deal with that hassle."
Jiraiya added, "The Akatsuki recently captured the Hidden Cloud's jinchuriki. Their goal might be the tailed beasts."
"So what?"
Jiraiya spoke with determination, "I won't repeat the same mistake as before. This time, I must protect Naruto properly! So please, help me!"
Tsunade stopped, hesitation showing on her face.
She knew Jiraiya felt deep guilt for not being able to save the Fourth Hokage in time back then. She wanted to help him, but the thought of her fear of blood made her sigh inwardly. "I'm sorry, but I can't help you much."
Just as Tsunade was about to leave the hospital, a figure appeared in front of her.
"You—" The person paused, then stepped aside politely, "Sorry."
Tsunade noticed the emblem of the Uchiha clan on the person's clothes and asked curiously, "Isn't the Uchiha clan already…"
Jiraiya interjected, "You're Uchiha Shinji, right?"
Shinji nodded, "Yes, that's me."
"You're here to see Sasuke, right?" Jiraiya smiled. "Go on in; his mental injuries have been treated, and he should wake up today."
"Is that so? That's great to hear!"
Shinji acknowledged with a nod, then walked past Tsunade and Jiraiya into the hospital.
As she watched Shinji's back, Tsunade asked, "So there are other survivors of the Uchiha besides Sasuke?"
Jiraiya nodded, "Yes, but unlike Sasuke, Uchiha Shinji has yet to awaken his Sharingan. But I've heard he's quite talented in medical ninjutsu."
Tsunade chuckled, "An Uchiha skilled in medical ninjutsu?"
In her experience, the Uchiha were a clan that valued power above all else. Even the more mild-mannered members had a deep-rooted pride.
So, she found it hard to believe that an Uchiha would excel in medical ninjutsu.
Inside the hospital, Shinji maintained a calm appearance, though internally he thought, "Both Jiraiya and Tsunade have returned to the village. It looks like the Hidden Leaf is taking things seriously now!"
But this was within his expectations.
He had already gathered most of the details about the events before and after the battle between the Hidden Cloud and the Akatsuki since returning to the village.
The strength the Akatsuki displayed in that battle far exceeded the expectations of the Five Great Shinobi Nations.
And the mere thought of the mysterious Akatsuki leader, capable of uniting a group of fierce and powerful members, left the Five Great Shinobi Nations feeling uneasy.
For the unknown is the greatest fear!
Thus, the Five Great Shinobi Nations had now placed the Akatsuki's leader as their number one SS-rank wanted criminal.
"If only I could learn Tsunade's Yin Seal or her monstrous strength technique!"
Shinji mused as he entered Sasuke's hospital room.
At that moment, Sasuke, lying on the hospital bed, opened his eyes and turned his head to look at Shinji as he entered the room, a complex expression in his gaze.
Seeing this, Shinji said, "Sasuke, you're awake!"
"Shinji…"
Sasuke acknowledged, then turned away, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Noticing Sasuke's vacant expression and the dullness in his eyes, Shinji stepped forward and asked, "Are you okay? Do you feel any discomfort?"
To Shinji, Sasuke was a very important subject for his experiments.
Sasuke possessed the chakra of Indra Otsutsuki, making him a crucial element in Shinji's plan to awaken the Rinnegan. Sasuke was even one of his potential options, so he genuinely did not want anything to happen to him.
Hearing Shinji's concern, Sasuke's mind replayed the words Itachi had repeatedly spoken to him in the genjutsu: "Only by killing your closest friend can you obtain eyes like mine! Once you have eyes like mine, come and challenge me again!"
"Closest friend…"
Sasuke thought about this phrase, and images of Shinji kept flashing through his mind.
Without a doubt, at that moment, Sasuke believed that Shinji, who had survived the night of the massacre with him, who had supported him all along, and who would risk everything to come to his aid, was indeed his closest friend.
