Uchiha Setsuna paused.

How did he know that there were members who hadn't received their pensions? The clan's finances were currently managed by other elders, making this a particularly sensitive issue. Many Uchiha were already outraged, demanding severe punishment for whoever was responsible.

He couldn't defend that person, nor did he want to—he was angry himself. "Isn't that right... Elder Ketasu?"

Uchiha Fugaku turned his gaze to an old man seated at the end of the first row. This movement drew everyone's attention to Uchiha Ketasu, and more and more Uchiha activated their Sharingan, scrutinizing him.

Being stared at by so many red eyes would make anyone uncomfortable.

"Fugaku, are you doubting me..."

"Elder Ketasu has a keen eye. He specifically targets families with weaker status, those who have not awakened the Sharingan. Did you think that even if you kept them quiet, the news wouldn't reach me, the clan leader?"

Fugaku's voice rose from its initial low tone to a louder one, maintaining the gravity and authority expected of an Uchiha clan leader.

Uchiha Fugaku, with the traditional Uchiha fan on his back, pointed a sickle at Uchiha Ketasu.

Upon hearing this, Uchiha Setsuna and several elders exchanged dark glances. They were infuriated by the presence of a traitor like Uchiha Ketasu among their ranks, and they also sensed the criticism in Fugaku's words, hinting that the elders had overstepped their bounds.

"You're right. Uchiha belongs to all of us, not just to your family!"

Uchiha Ketasu retorted, his face flushed with anger as he pointed at Uchiha Fugaku.

"What right do you have to be the clan leader? By what merit or seniority? How can you measure up to us? Just because your father was the clan leader?"

The Uchiha were known for their pride and competitiveness; none would easily submit to another, especially those with the three-tomoe Sharingan. Without the Mangekyō Sharingan to assert dominance, the elders believed they had more claim to leadership than Fugaku and sought to challenge his authority.

"Elder Ketasu, I may have fallen short in my duties as clan leader, but my greatest failure has been not dealing with traitors like you sooner. As the clan leader, I believe it is my responsibility to wash away the shame from the Uchiha crest with my own blood!"

Ninjas ultimately measured respect through strength. And no one believed in that more than the Uchiha.

Uchiha Ketasu realized that his fate was sealed. Regardless of the outcome of his battle with Uchiha Fugaku, he would be torn apart by the angry clan members.

Nobody wanted such a dire situation to befall their family, as all had parents and children to consider.

A crowd of Uchiha surrounded Uchiha Fugaku and Uchiha Ketasu as they moved to the open space in front of Nanga Shrine. Fugaku intended to kill Uchiha Ketasu in a one-on-one fight, hoping to demonstrate his strength and establish his authority before all the clan members.

According to the rules set by the First and Second Hokage, people from the same village were supposed to make the seal of opposition before sparring to show respect, and the seal of reconciliation afterward. But it was clear that these formalities had no place in this battle.

In the Uchiha district of Konoha, at the open space in front of Nanga Shrine, a large crowd of Uchiha gathered to witness Uchiha Fugaku and Uchiha Ketasu locked in fierce combat. They remained at the perimeter, ensuring that Uchiha Ketasu wouldn't seize the opportunity to flee.

"Haruto."

Uchiha Retsu appeared next to Haruto at some point without him noticing.

"Use your Sharingan to watch closely and learn well. A battle between two Uchiha with the three-tomoe Sharingan at this level has great value for your understanding."

Haruto obediently activated his Sharingan and focused on the battle. However, the two fighters were highly skilled jonin, even among their peers. Despite using his Sharingan, Haruto could only follow the general flow—seeing which jutsu Fugaku used, how Ketasu countered, and so on. His current level as a ninja made it difficult to grasp the finer points of the duel.

Uchiha Retsu, observing from the side, began to provide a quiet commentary. Though aged, he had been a jonin for decades and his experience was evident. He pointed out key details, helping Haruto understand aspects of the fight he could absorb and learn from.

"It seems that Fugaku's strength is quite solid, and Ketasu is likely to lose."

After watching for a few minutes, Uchiha Retsu stroked his beard, nodding with apparent approval of Fugaku's performance as clan leader.

Among their ranks, he might not compare to the former leaders who wielded the Mangekyō Sharingan, but Fugaku was indeed the best choice to lead the Uchiha clan now.
