Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Confusing and Mysterious
With different thoughts in their hearts, the two cans of Baijiu were soon emptied. Nayuki drank less and was still able to move around on her own. Kawakaze and Tsunade were both carried back to their rooms by servants, each to a separate room.
Sakumo leaned heavily on Nayuki, and the two stumbled back to their quarters. With a mysterious look, Sakumo whispered in his wife's ear:
"I discovered a secret."
"Kawakaze wants to become Hokage."
"But now he's letting Tsunade have it."
He waited expectantly for a surprised reaction from Nayuki. Instead, she simply helped him along, skeptical of his ramblings. To her, it was more plausible to help Tsunade ascend to power.
"Have you ever seen a Hokage who likes to tease and cuddle dogs?"
Ignoring her husband's drunken musings, Nayuki helped him to their room. She worried that if they tried for a baby tonight, her husband's current state might impact the child's intelligence.
The night passed without incident, and dawn arrived.
Tsunade woke up in the guest room, immediately realizing she wasn't in her own quarters. A quick glance at the bed confirmed she was alone. Her clothes were neatly folded, and there were no signs of any untoward events.
After freshening up, she stepped out and ran into Kawakaze, who was drying his hair with a towel. He was topless, his six-pack clearly visible, and his damp silver hair gleamed in the morning light. His freshly showered scent lingered in the air.
"Good morning, Kawakaze," Tsunade greeted.
"Good morning. I was just about to check if you were awake. Go wash up—my sister-in-law has prepared some clothes for you," Kawakaze replied, removing the towel from his head and shaking it slightly.
Tsunade walked past with her head down, momentarily forgetting to ask for directions.
"Go straight and turn right—you'll see the bathroom," Kawakaze called after her.
"Okay," Tsunade replied as she disappeared from view, her voice faintly echoing in the corridor.
After freshening up, Tsunade emerged wearing a purple cheongsam prepared by Nayuki. Kawakaze's eyes widened at the sight. He hadn't expected such a stunning outfit. The cheongsam accentuated her figure, highlighting her elegance and charm.
Tsunade gave him a sidelong glance and sat down next to him, unfazed by his reaction.
"It's not really appropriate to wear this to the construction site," Kawakaze commented, sipping his congee. The cheongsam looked great, but it wasn't exactly practical for fieldwork.
"I have some combat fatigues at home. Tsunade can change into those later," Nayuki interjected, saving Tsunade the trouble of going home to change.
Throughout breakfast, Kawakaze's gaze kept drifting toward Tsunade, making her increasingly uncomfortable. Finally, she hurriedly finished her meal and dragged Nayuki away to change.
"Too young. This is damaging the Hatake Clan's reputation," Sakumo, who had been silent like a meditating monk, finally spoke, reprimanding his younger brother. Has this fool never seen a woman before?
"What do you know? That's Tsunade in a cheongsam," Kawakaze retorted, tugging on a fried dough stick and dismissing his brother's comment entirely.
After breakfast, the same group of four and the dog returned to their post near the two adjacent trees, keeping a lookout. The construction team was already hard at work. Whether it was because of their diligence or Tsunade's commanding presence, there had been no disturbances so far.
After about two hours of surveillance, there was finally some activity.
"Someone's coming," Nayuki and Kawakaze said simultaneously—Kawakaze relying on his own senses, and Nayuki trusting her dog.
Though no one had appeared in their line of sight yet, neither Tsunade nor Sakumo doubted the claim. They watched the construction site closely.
Soon, a three-person team emerged and approached the construction crew.
"It's the Uchiha," Tsunade noted, recognizing the clan crests on their uniforms.
"The Uchiha are definitely interfering," Kawakaze muttered, his face betraying no surprise. He had anticipated this ever since seeing the approval document.
Though they watched intently, they could only observe the people, not hear their conversation.
The three Uchihas confronted the only ninja among the construction crew, a dark-skinned man who stepped forward to negotiate.
"What business do the three Uchiha lords have here?" the man asked respectfully.
"What are you doing here?" the leader of the Uchiha team demanded arrogantly. To him, a ninja relegated to construction work wasn't a true ninja.
"We are mercenary ninjas hired by Lady Tsunade to survey the terrain. The hospital construction will begin soon," the dark-skinned man replied truthfully, unwilling to provoke the Uchiha Clan.
"I see. This area is close to the Uchiha Clan's Konoha Military Police Force headquarters. I'll investigate further if I notice anything unusual," the leader said dismissively, waving his hand for the group to leave.
With that, the three Uchihas turned and walked away. The dark-skinned man, puzzled but unwilling to dwell on it, returned to his work.
"What are the Uchiha playing at?" Kawakaze muttered, frowning. The situation seemed increasingly suspicious.
"It's close to their headquarters. It's not strange for them to investigate," Sakumo said, brushing it off. His straightforward thinking saw nothing unusual.
Nayuki remained silent. She also felt there was more to it, but couldn't pinpoint what.
"What should we do next?" Tsunade asked, looking to Kawakaze, who had taken charge.
"You stay here. I'll go investigate," Kawakaze decided, marking a tree branch with the Flying Thunder God Technique before teleporting away.
He trailed the three Uchiha ninjas quietly as they made their way toward the Uchiha territory. Kawakaze stayed concealed, his chakra suppressed.
Suddenly, he sensed a familiar chakra ahead. Pausing, he observed the situation carefully.
The three Uchiha, at most Chūnin-level, seemed oblivious to his presence and continued on their path.
As they passed under a large tree, the sharp clang of a shuriken falling from above startled them.
"Who's there?"
The three Uchiha immediately retreated, forming a defensive triangle with kunai drawn, their eyes scanning the surroundings. Despite their arrogance, Uchiha clan members were known for their strong individual combat skills.
"Uchiha? Nothing special. And you dare target our hospital—property of the Senju Clan?"
As the voice echoed, a figure emerged. Clad in a black robe with a hood covering their face, the individual concealed their identity entirely.
Kawakaze, observing from the shadows, was momentarily baffled. Senju Clan? Where did this person come from?
"We didn't do anything," the leader of the Uchiha group, spoke defensively. "We were just asking questions."
However, the robed figure didn't seem inclined to negotiate.
"I'll teach you a lesson. Stay away from the hospital construction site."
With a swift motion, the black-robed figure engaged the three Uchiha in combat.
Kawakaze noted the stranger's movements. While they were effective, their Taijutsu was riddled with flaws. Even so, the Uchiha trio was outmatched. The mysterious figure overwhelmed them with speed and precision.
In moments, all three were incapacitated. They lay on the ground nursing injuries, though none were life-threatening. The worst of them bore superficial wounds from kunai strikes.
"Go back and tell your clan head: the Senju Clan is not to be trifled with."
With that, the black-robed figure vanished into the forest.
Kawakaze, intrigued, remained concealed. Who is this person claiming to represent the Senju Clan?
Determined to find out, he suppressed his chakra and quietly followed the stranger.
The black-robed figure took a circuitous route through the forest, eventually disappearing into the Uchiha Clan's territory.
Kawakaze chose not to pursue further. Things were becoming increasingly complex—and far more interesting.
After pondering briefly, he activated the Flying Thunder God Technique, teleporting back to Tsunade's side.
