48: Easily Defeated
"Damn it!" Menma's eyes
narrowed as he faced the attacker. With a swift motion, he raised his kunai,
its cold blade reflecting the bright sunlight. For a moment, he hesitated, but
it was only for a second. His eyes sharpened with resolve as he struck towards
the attacker's vital point.
The attacker, realizing the imminent
danger, gritted his teeth and turned with all his strength, swinging his right
arm to block the attack. "Pfft!" The kunai pierced the attacker's
right arm, the dull sound of metal penetrating flesh and blood echoing in the
air. Blood splattered everywhere, and the attacker groaned in pain.
As the attacker twisted back to
counterattack, Menma was already a step ahead. He raised his left leg and
kicked the attacker hard in the abdomen. The force of the blow caused the
attacker to vomit blood and be propelled backward like a cannonball. "Peng!"
The attacker hit the ground hard, feeling as if his body was falling apart.
Menma didn't give the attacker a
chance to recover. In a flash, he was above the attacker, bending his knees and
striking the attacker's abdomen again. This blow rendered the attacker
completely unable to resist, rolling his eyes back in unconsciousness.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Sasuke
swiftly struck another attacker in the neck with a precise hand chop, knocking
him out instantly.
"Ahh! You two reacted too
quickly, didn't you? Leave one for me!" Naruto, arriving a bit late to the
scene, looked at Menma and Sasuke with a look of displeasure. This was a rare
opportunity for actual combat after leaving the village, and he had missed it!
"Haha, then you have to act
faster next time, Naruto!" Menma said softly, tying the two attackers to a
nearby tree.
"Hmph, just watch. Next time, I
will definitely be faster than both of you!" Naruto said determinedly,
wrinkling his nose.
"Is this still the time to
discuss this? Kakashi-sensei! Kakashi-sensei was killed!" Haruno Sakura,
who had just recovered from her shock, widened her eyes and shouted, unable to
understand why Menma, Naruto, and Sasuke were so calm.
"Sakura, take a closer look at
where Kakashi-sensei was just now. This is already the second time. Don't you
have an idea of Kakashi-sensei's strength?" Naruto shook his head,
pointing to the spot where Kakashi had been.
Menma and Sasuke remained calm.
"Ah?" Sakura followed Naruto's finger and saw that 'Kakashi's body'
had turned into a wooden log, broken into several pieces. The blood that had
splattered before had completely disappeared. It was almost the same scene as a
month ago. Embarrassment appeared on Sakura's face. "Ahaha, it turns out
to be a substitution technique..."
"Also, Kakashi-sensei, you
should have come out, right? With your strength, you can easily defeat these
two enemies. Why are you still hiding?" Naruto seemed dissatisfied.
"Haha, I didn't hide it from
your eyes. However, there is a reason for my hiding. Naruto, this is to judge
who the real target of these attackers is. After all, don't forget, this
mission is only C-rank. Menma and Sasuke, you two acted too quickly, and now we
can't even judge!" Kakashi stepped out from the shadow of a tree, smiling.
As Kakashi spoke, Tazuna couldn't maintain his composure, and panic
appeared in his eyes. "Eh? The real target? Kakashi-sensei, what do you
mean?" Naruto asked, confused.
"Isn't it easy to know who the
target is? Kakashi-sensei, you should have many ways to pry open the mouths of
these two Mist Ninjas!" Menma smiled lightly, glancing at the unconscious
demon brothers.
"That's right. Tazuna -san, do
you need to give us an explanation? Of course, you can remain silent, but
someone will speak," Kakashi said, turning to Tazuna .
Menma, Sasuke, and Naruto's eyes
fixed on Tazuna . Only Sakura still looked confused, turning her head left and
right, unable to understand the situation.
"Hey..." Tazuna sighed deeply. He had hoped the presence of
Konoha ninjas would deter those after him, but now his fantasies were
shattered. "Don't ask, these people are coming for me!" Tazuna admitted. The facts were clear, and pretending
further was pointless. He held onto the last glimmer of hope, but now he had to
face reality.
