Nightwing & Angel - The Legend Untold

Chapter 7: Chapter 5: Revelation

The late morning sun bathed the quiet alleyway in a warm, golden light, casting long shadows that stretched across the cracked pavement. The old buildings around them, with their faded brickwork and ivy-clad walls, seemed to huddle together, providing a cocoon of privacy for the four standing in the alley's narrow confines. The distant sounds of the city—car horns, the murmur of pedestrians, and the occasional bark of a dog—felt like they belonged to another world, far removed from the one in which Michael, Mark, Loe, and Mindy now found themselves.

Michael stood at the center, his black suit absorbing the sunlight, giving him a commanding presence. His face, usually hidden behind his mask, was now exposed, revealing a look of calm determination. He glanced at Mark and Loe, who stood beside him, their expressions mirroring his resolve.

"Okay, now that we know what we will do." Michael began, his voice steady but laced with concern as he looked at Mark and Loe.

Michael's gaze lingered on the two, his friends and allies in this unfolding mission. He trusted them, but the weight of responsibility bore heavily on him. "Don't worry. I'll be joining you two after I finish my side of things."

Mark, his Nightwing suit contrasting sharply with the soft light, responded with a reassuring grin. "Michael, don't worry about us. We can handle this." he said, his voice carrying a confidence that only served to emphasize the bond they shared. He shot a glance at Loe, who stood silently, his eyes scanning the surroundings with an air of nonchalance.

Loe, ever the blunt one, couldn't resist teasing. "Yeah, dude… You're such a worrier, like an overprotective mother." he said with a chuckle, his words lightening the mood. Mark joined in, his laughter echoing softly in the alley.

Michael, despite his worries, couldn't help but laugh too. "Yeah, yeah… Anyway, tomorrow I have something to give to you two.." he said, the seriousness returning to his tone, though a smile still played on his lips.

Mark and Loe exchanged curious glances before nodding in unison.

"Hoh, another amazing tool?" Mark asked, his eyes bright with anticipation.

Michael nodded, a glint of mystery in his eyes. "These tools might help you on your journey. Since it'll just be the two of you, they might keep you both safe.." he explained, his words carrying the weight of his concern.

As Mark continued to discuss the plan with Michael, Loe found his attention drifting. He sighed softly, feeling the familiar weight of responsibility settle on his shoulders. It was a feeling he was used to, having grown up in the slums where survival meant relying on yourself and trusting few.

Loe's gaze shifted to Mindy, who had been quietly observing the trio. Her eyes met his, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause. Her cheeks flushed a delicate pink as she quickly looked away, embarrassed to have been caught staring. "So-Sorry." she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper, her posture shrinking as if trying to make herself smaller.

Loe just sighed, his expression softening despite himself. There was something endearing about her shy demeanor, something that reminded him of the innocence he had long since lost. He turned his attention back to the conversation, but not without a final glance at Mindy, who was now looking at the ground like a shy rabbit.

Michael and Mark, noticing the exchange, shared a knowing smile. There was something amusing about seeing the usually stoic Loe flustered, even if only slightly.

Mark finally said, "Now that we know what to do—go to Chicago, have Mindy tell us the location, wait for their transaction, and then boom, problem solved."

Loe shook his head, a slight smirk on his lips. "You talk as if it's easy." he remarked, his tone filled with a mix of skepticism and amusement.

Mark just grinned, scratching the back of his head. "Hehehe." he chuckled, unbothered by the challenge ahead.

Michael joined in the laughter, his voice ringing with genuine amusement. The camaraderie between the three was palpable, a bond forged through countless trials and shared victories.

As Mindy watched the trio, she couldn't help but smile as well. There was something comforting about their friendship, something that made her feel safe despite the dangers that lay ahead. For the first time in a long while, she felt like she was part of something bigger, something that mattered.

.............

As the clock struck 10 a.m., Mark found himself back at home, having just finished the intense conversation and decision-making with Michael and Loe. Now dressed in his regular clothes—a simple T-shirt and jeans—he had shed the persona of Nightwing, reverting back to just Mark Fletcher, a typical teenager trying to juggle a double life.

Approaching the familiar front door of his house, he knocked lightly, calling out, "I'm home!" His voice echoed slightly in the quiet of the morning, a comforting routine after the tense discussions.

The door swung open, revealing his sister, Mary Fletcher, who was also Michael's girlfriend. She stood there, a knowing smile playing on her lips, her eyes softening at the sight of her brother.

"Mary!" Mark exclaimed, stepping forward to give her a hug.

But Mary quickly put up a hand, her nose crinkling slightly. "Don't hug me, you're sweating.." she teased, her tone playful yet firm.

Mark rolled his eyes and, with a mock pout, replied, "Oh, when it's Michael hugging you, you act like you're in heaven. But when your own brother tries to hug you, you shrug it off?" He looked at her with a playful grin, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "You meanie."

Mary's cheeks flushed at his words, the pink hue spreading quickly. "That's a different matter!" she protested, her voice a bit defensive, though there was no real anger in it. "And Michael, even if he's sweaty, still looks fresh. While you… you look like a stinking pig, hmmp!" She crossed her arms and turned her head slightly, trying to appear haughty, though the smile tugging at her lips betrayed her.

"So heartless. Are you really my sister?" Mark shot back, dramatically placing a hand over his heart as if wounded by her words.

Mary stuck out her tongue playfully, retorting with a simple, "Bleh.." as she stepped aside to let him in, her earlier mock disdain melting into a warm, familiar affection.

The interior of the house was cozy, filled with the soft light streaming in through the windows. The smell of fresh coffee lingered in the air, mixing with the faint scent of the pancakes Mary had made earlier. It was a comforting atmosphere, a stark contrast to the serious matters Mark had been dealing with just moments ago.

As they moved into the living room, Mark plopped down on the couch, stretching out his legs, while Mary sat opposite him, her expression softening as she looked at her brother. Despite their teasing banter, there was an unspoken bond between them, a connection that neither the dangers of Mark's other life nor Mary's relationship with Michael could diminish.

............

Meanwhile, outside a modest two-story house nestled in a quiet neighborhood, Loe Halloway stood with Mindy Williams by his side. Loe, with his black hair slightly tousled from the morning breeze, was the picture of reluctant responsibility. Next to him, Mindy, a blonde girl with striking dark blue eyes, fidgeted nervously, glancing at the ground as they approached the front door.

After the trio had concluded that Mindy would be safest with Loe, it was clear that this was the best option. His house, though small and simple, was the most discreet and least likely to draw unwanted attention.

As they reached the doorstep, Mindy hesitated, her voice soft. "Um…"

Loe glanced at her, his expression neutral but his eyes curious. "What?"

"Thank you.." Mindy said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Loe, ever the tsundere, shrugged off her gratitude with a slight roll of his eyes. "Don't thank me yet," he replied, his tone gruff. "Thank me when it's all over." He reached for the door, trying to focus on the task at hand rather than the unexpected warmth he felt from her words.

But Mindy wasn't deterred. "But still, I want to thank you.." she insisted, offering him a small, genuine smile.

Loe's usual cool demeanor cracked for a moment as he caught sight of her smile. A faint blush crept up his cheeks, but he quickly turned away, his embarrassment hidden behind a gruff exterior. "Whatever.." he muttered, brushing off the feeling as he knocked on the door.

After a moment, the door creaked open, revealing Thomas Halloway, Loe's adopted father. At over 70 years old, Thomas was a tall man with a kind face, though age had begun to etch deep lines around his eyes. Despite his years, there was a certain strength to him, due to him being a former vigilante

"Oh, Loe, you're early today," Thomas greeted, his voice warm. His gaze shifted to Mindy, and a hint of surprise crossed his features. "And who's this? Let me guess, you've already moved on after being heartbroken, and now you've brought a girl home?"

"Oh, Loe, you're early today," Thomas greeted, his voice warm. His gaze shifted to Mindy, and a hint of surprise crossed his features. "And who's this? Let me guess, you've already moved on after being heartbroken, and now you've brought a girl home?"

Loe scowled, his blush returning at his father's teasing. "Don't joke around, old man," he retorted, his tone sharp but lacking any real bite. He stepped aside to let Mindy into the house. "This girl needs our help, and she'll be staying with us for a day."

Thomas's teasing smile faded, replaced by concern. "What? What happened, Loe?" he asked, his tone serious now as he looked between his son and Mindy, trying to piece together the situation.

Loe sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's complicated. She's in trouble, and it's safer for her to be here for now."

Thomas nodded, his expression softening as he looked at Mindy. "Well, any friend of Loe's is welcome here. Come in, dear.." he said gently, stepping aside to let them both enter.

As they walked into the house, the warm, inviting scent of freshly baked bread wafted through the air. The interior was cozy and lived-in, with worn but comfortable furniture and shelves lined with old books and trinkets from Thomas's younger days. The walls were adorned with framed photographs, capturing moments from Loe and Thomas's life before he'd taken Loe in.

Thomas looked at Loe with a mix of concern and fatherly authority in his eyes. "Now, you better tell me what happened.." he said, his voice firm but gentle.

Loe shifted uncomfortably, glancing briefly at Mindy before meeting Thomas's gaze. He knew this was coming—Thomas wasn't the type to let things slide, especially when it involved someone in need.

Loe looked directly at Thomas, aware that what he was about to say might stir up old, difficult memories for Mindy.

"She's from Chicago," Loe started, keeping his voice calm but serious. "And the people chasing her are from the Capone family…"

The room seemed to grow colder as the words hung in the air. Thomas's eyes narrowed, his expression hardening as the implications set in. "What? Chicago and Capone? You mean Alphonse Capone?" His voice dropped to a low, almost dangerous whisper, as if even speaking the name could summon trouble.

Loe nodded solemnly. "Yeah. Wait... You know that my late boss, Albert Capone, had a father who was incredibly influential? How?"

Thomas sighed deeply, the sound full of resignation and old memories. "So, it seems like I can't hide it from you any longer, huh?" He met Loe's eyes, the look in them a mix of regret and steely resolve.

Loe felt a chill run down his spine, sensing that whatever Thomas was about to reveal would change everything. "What are you talking about, old man? What is it you've been hiding?"

Thomas hesitated for a moment, as if weighing the burden of the truth against the need to protect those around him. Finally, he spoke, his voice tinged with the echoes of a past life. "Back when I was in my prime, before I settled down, Back when I was known as the Angel. Chicago was a different place then, a battleground of crime and corruption...

Loe felt a chill run down his spine. "What? What do you mean?" as his voice filled with confusion

What is the true meaning behind Thomas Halloway's cryptic words? What dark secrets are entwined with the days of his prime, and how do they cast a shadow over Capone's past? As Mark and Loe embark on their mission, the stakes is rise. Will Mark be able to handle the challenge, or will things go wrong? The true revelations will come to light in the next chapter. Stay tuned for the big reveal.
