Chapter 4: Good Luck, Bro
After the introductions, Benji began teaching them about the basics of being a ninja, such as using kunai, shuriken and explosion tags in different ways.
Kira knew all of it, so while he listened half heartedly, he daydreamed about random things.
The classes continued until the lunch break and to Kira's surprise, he saw Kurenai actually walking towards him.
"Hi, I'm Kurenai Yuhi. Sorry about before, I was caught by surprise." she said, making Kira blink his eyes a few times.
"I thought you were scared of my lovely bugs, hahahaha!" he said, laughing as he looked at her, 'Looks like maxing my appearance was not a good idea. Sorry Kurenai, but if I ever pick a romantic partner, she'd have to either be strong or have the potential to be strong. You fit none of the two categories unfortunately.'
Even though he didn't want to get romantically involved with her, he didn't mind befriending people. He glanced at the girl who had distinctive red-ringed eyes before going back to his bento.
'If things get as far as her falling for me like Sakura fell for Sasuke and continued to go for him after all he did... I'll just reject her like Sasuke rejected Sakura... nah that's too harsh and I'm sure that Kurenai is not that dumb.
I guess I'll divert her attention to her future husband and see how things go.' he thought as he glanced at Asuma who was happily chatting away with a few other guys, but all of a sudden, he glanced at Kurenai, only to end up making eye contact with Kira.
At first, he felt embarrassed, but when he saw Kira go back to eating his lunch silently, he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
On the other hand, Kira was having his own thoughts about the kids in his class.
'These guys are only five years old, but they already feel attracted to the opposite gender?!'
To confirm his doubts, he looked around his classroom and a few seconds later, he sighed.
"Damn..."
"Did something happen?" Kurenai asked as she placed the rice she was holding with her chop sticks, back into her bento.
Kira shook his head, "Nah, nothing is wrong. I was just thinking about why everyone hates my bugs..."
Even though he lied, his gaze moved towards Kakashi who was eating alone. Multiple girls had already tried talking to him, but the guy just drove them away without a shred of empathy.
'Yeah that's how a ninja should be. These other kids are wasting too much of their time tying to find a significant someone at the age of 5, damn.' he cursed again as he turned to look at Kurenai and then glanced at Asuma.
"Hey Kurenai, do you know that guy? His name was Akuma correct?" he asked loudly, making sure that Asuma would hear him, and he clearly did.
Just as the guy turned around, Kurenai chuckled before correcting him, "No, his name is Asuma. I talked to him during the entrance ceremony and he's a pretty good guy. You two should be able to become nice friends."
Kira nodded and turned to look at Asuma who was staring back at him. There wasn't any anger in his eyes, but Kira could sense anticipation.
'Those eyes are literally screaming at me to not tell Kurenai about what I saw... or maybe I'm reading it wrong.'
In any case, he never planned on telling Kurenai anything. He lifted his hand and pointed at Asuma, "Hey Asuma! Do you want to be friends with me? Oh wait, if you want to be friends with me, you shouldn't be scared of bugs! I don't make friends with sissies."
Listening to Kira's lofty words, Asuma felt the corner of his mouth twitch. But just as he was about to say, "Who'd be friends with you?", he glanced at Kurenai and the next second, completely different set of words flowed from his mouth.
"Why should I be scared of mere bugs? Those who are scared of bugs are weaklings! And when it comes to you, there is absolutely no reason to be scared since you can control them at will, right?"
Kira nodded and imitated a certain rubber man, "I like you, Asuma! Be my friend!"
Asuma's body stiffened when he heard Kira's command.
'Who'd be friends with you when you give them orders!!' he didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so instead he resorted to nodding.
"Great, now that you're my friend, come and eat with us. Come come, I'll share my food with you."
Asuma, who was originally eager to get to know Kurenai more, didn't hesitate and hurriedly joined their table. While Kurenai was looking at Asuma who was getting this bento to the table, Kira hurriedly scribbled six words onto a small paper and stuck it to the side of his bento using chakra.
His talent for control was at E rank and even though it was low, he had enough control do do what he wanted. Instead of using just the right amount to "stick" it, he simply pushed the paper with his chakra to make it look like it was stuck instead.
The moment Asuma placed his bento on the table, Kira hurriedly swapped bentos with him.
"Close friends must share their bento. You really are my best friend, Asuma!" Kira said as he gave him a thumbs up and also stopped releasing his chakra.
Just as Asuma was about to burst in anger, he noticed the small paper fall onto the table from the bento. Luckily, from Kurenai's angle, she couldn't see and due to Kira's word's her attention was fixed on him.
Asuma glanced at the contents.
Be thankful! Good luck with Kurenai.
