Episode 23 - Vacation Reward
Ryu Yeon-woo: Hey guys, thanks for supporting my activities with the music. I’ll be going to school from the 3rd, so let’s catch up at school!
Woo seong-sik: Oh, is Yeon-woo finally coming?
Hwang Jin-hyeon: Yeon-woo, how many days are you coming to school this time? The kids in Class 4 keep challenging me to soccer. Come and score some goals!
In the group chat, Yeon-woo’s message appeared alongside his friends’ messages and smiling emojis.
The afterparty for the last episode continued into the late night, splitting into two groups—those heading for a second round and those heading home. Due to his minor status, Yeon-woo left early.
“Min-soo hyung, you’ve been waiting a long time.”
“Not really. I dropped Stylist Ye-Ye-eun near her house and came back.”
Min-soo drove in that direction and dropped Yeon-woo off at the apartment provided by the entertainment agency. Then he headed home.
“Well, my first drama has come to an end.”
With mixed feelings of satisfaction and regret, he completed his first work. It was still hard for him to believe that he had actually acted in a drama. In his past life, he had only played extras with passing pedestrian roles.
“Will this feeling of excitement lessen after a couple more works?”
Late into the night, feeling an odd emptiness, he lay in bed and absentmindedly searched for information about ‘Summer Promise’.
The next day at lunchtime, Manager Kim Min-soo came to pick up Yeon-woo again.
“Did you have lunch, sir?”
“No, what about you, Min-soo hyung?”
“I haven’t either. Then let’s go get something to eat and head down.”
“Oh, come on, I’m still a student. I haven’t even had a single drink. But I do like hangover soup.”
Kim Min-soo sometimes forgot that Yeon-woo was a minor, given how mature he appeared.
Yeon-woo’s words made Kim Min-soo chuckle. He guided Yeon-woo to his usual dining spot, a place he often frequented.
After having lunch at a nearby restaurant, they headed to Daejeon.
Before he knew it, Min-soo’s car arrived at his parents’ apartment.
“Well, Min-soo hyung, would you like to come in? I’ll at least treat you to a drink.”
“No, I’ll be waiting by the elevator. Take your time.”
Entering his home through the front door, Yeon-woo went to find his passport, which he needed for his company’s records due to his reward vacation plans.
Thankfully, his newly made passport from last year was ready, which was together with his resident registration card showing he had just turned 17.
Yeon-woo had contacted his parents the previous day, so his mother had already prepared everything on the dining table. He grabbed the passport and made his way out.
“Here’s my passport. Thank you for coming all the way to Daejeon.”
“I used to go back and forth between Seoul and Busan regularly. Daejeon is relatively close.”
Approaching Min-soo, Yeon-woo handed him the passport and smiled brightly.
“You’ll probably need to apply for a travel visa online through the company, so you shouldn’t have much else to do. Well then, I’ll see you on the 7th.”
“Yes. Have a safe drive back.”
With that, Min-soo left, and Yeon-woo spent the day as usual, preparing for school and exercising.
The next morning, Yeon-woo arrived at school riding in his father’s Cheol-yung’s car. As he got out of the car and passed through the school gate, screams of excitement from female students filled the air, and they rushed toward him from all directions.
“Wow, it’s Ryu Yeon-woo!”
“Ahhhh! Is this for real?”
Seeing the unfamiliar faces of more than half the students swarming around, they seemed to be new students.
“Hello. Yes, hello.”
Yeon-woo greeted them with handshakes and eye contact, trying his best to respond to the excited newcomers. Due to the influx of underclassmen, the area near the entrance turned into chaos.
“This is crazy. I just made eye contact.”
“But it’s not that big a deal, I’ve seen him before.”
In between the bickering, another friend with a cheerful expression joined the conversation.
“I held hands with oppa.”
“Nice!”
Everyone had their smartphones out, turning on their cameras to capture Yeon-woo. At this provincial high school, the senior celebrity’s arrival was an irresistible point of interest for the new students.
“What’s all this commotion about?!”
Thinking it might be a fight, the homeroom teacher came rushing over, yelling and hooting, and when he reached the entrance, he found Yeon-woo surrounded by students. he scolded the students and then, noticing Yeon-woo’s slightly awkward smile, he quickly assessed the situation. he put his arm around him like a manager and guided him through the crowd, leading him into the main building.
“Can you kids please step aside? What if you prevent your seniors from entering the school?!”
With the teacher’s help, Yeon-woo safely reached the main building, where he was directed to the third-year classroom. As he rYe-eunited with his familiar friends in the class, he was greeted by various reactions.
“Yeon-woo, why does it feel like it’s been forever since we last met?”
“Oh, Yeon-woo is in our class! Yes!”
Unlike friends who regularly came to school for self-study during vacations, these friends hadn’t seen each other in nearly three months.
“That’s right. It’s been three months already.”
Junsoo approached Yeon-woo and put his arm around his shoulder.
“Yeon-woo, Seong-sik is in the next class.”
“Oh, being separated alone is a pity.”
Upon hearing Yeon-woo’s words, Junsoo nodded in understanding.
“Hey, you know, where would a dog go if not somewhere like that?”
Indeed, Seong-sik was a social butterfly who had connections with everyone at school.
“Yeon-woo, is Han So-hyeon really pretty?”
“Who did you meet?”
Gradually, friends gathered around Yeon-woo, bombarding him with lively questions that high school boys would ask. Yeon-woo smiled gently and answered each question, and the classroom resounded with impressed exclamations.
“Quiet down! Let’s start class. Class president.”
Soon, the teacher entered the room, and the class began. Due to his reward vacation, Yeon-woo had to miss a few more days of school. However, whenever he was at school, he focused diligently on his studies.
“Yeon-woo, why are you studying so hard? You’re already a celebrity anyway.”
“Hmm? There’s nothing to do at school anyway. You should study too. The duty of a student is to study, and you might regret it later.”
“Well, anyway, it feels like I’m having a conversation with my father.”
Junsoo tilted his head while looking at Yeon-woo.
*********
“Son, did you pack the red pepper paste?”
“Haha! Foreign food suits me well. Don’t worry.”
After a few days of school life, the departure day had arrived.
Despite his mother trying to pack red pepper paste, cup ramen, and various other things for him, Yeon-woo left home as early as dawn.
There was a van waiting in front of the dimly lit house.
“Min-soo hyung, you’ve been working hard since morning. Because of me.”
Yeon-woo spoke, and Min-soo grinned.
“Well, it’s hard work. Thanks to you, I feel like my mouth is stretched from going to Hawaii. Haha.”
Min-soo seemed to have the qualities of a natural manager, but he has a hard time sitting in the office and dealing with administrative work.
“Alright, let’s depart.”
Min-soo, who had excellent driving skills, started the van and quickly headed towards Seoul. He picked up stylist Ye-Ye-eun, who was waiting with her suitcase in Gangnam.
“Ye-Ye-eun nuna, hello. It must have been heavy carrying all this.”
Seeing Yeon-woo’s apologetic smile, Ye-Ye-eun’s accumulated fatigue from the early morning seemed to melt away.
“Oh, no! It wasn’t hard at all!”
“Speak comfortably. We haven’t seen each other for a long time.”
Yeon-woo’s words made Ye-Ye-eun blush, and she nodded in agreement.
“Um, then, Yeon-woo. Would you like to wear this first? It’s better to touch your hair after changing, right?”
Ye-Ye-eun offered a smile, and Yeon-woo happily accepted the offer.
Receiving the smile, Yeon-woo laughed heartily on the spot.
After a light scream, she covered her eyes slightly and peeked between her fingers to observe Yeon-woo toned muscles.
“Are you dressed?”
“Yes, I changed everything. Nuna, if my stylist is embarrassed about get change. It feel embarrassing.”
At Yeon-woo’s words, Ye-Ye-eun playfully flicked her fingers.
“No, it’s just that I’ve mostly worked with mid-level actors and actresses before…”
Ye-Ye-eun blushed out of embarrassment and professionalism, then began to tidy Yeon-woo’s hair.
“I’m not a hair specialist, so I’ll just make it neat. Even if you shake your head, Yeon-woo, you’ll still look good.”
“Yes, I don’t need makeup. I have to endure a long flight, so it’s okay.”
Seeing Yeon-woo’s smooth skin like that of a baby, Ye-Ye-eun lightly moisturized it.
“Are those the reporters? They seem to be crowded over there. Well, I’ll stop there.”
Suddenly, the van that had arrived at Incheon Airport was standing in front of the repoters near Gate 8.
Min-soo quickly got out and took out his and Yeon-woo’s luggage.
“If you wait a moment, someone from the company will come to pick up the car again,”
Yeon-woo said as he got out after Ye-eun and handed his luggage over. He thanked her and assured her he would be back safely.
As they stood on the small pedestrian crosswalk in front of the gate, camera flashes from journalists went off, and even the passing travelers noticed Yeon-woo and raised their phones to take pictures.
Soon, the pedestrian light turned green, and as he crossed the crosswalk, Yeon-woo waved and greeted the reporters and fans.
“Hello. I’ll be back safely.”
Yeon-woo, accompanied by Min-soo, who was assisting him, entered the airport.
“Watch out for the pillar behind you. It’s a pillar.”
Min-soo cautioned the fans who rushed forward to take photos of Yeon-woo, making sure they didn’t stumble, and then led the way to the boarding gate.
“May I have your passport? Actor, there are fans over there.”
Min-soo took Yeon-woo’s passport and luggage, indicating the fans on the other side of the glass doors.
Thanks to him, Yeon-woo made heart shapes with his fingers to the fans who waited until the end and then proceeded with the boarding process.
“Actor, they told you to go to the B Lounge from the company, but I don’t come to the airport often, so please wait a moment.”
“Min-soo hyung, it’s this way.”
During his time in the National Intelligence Service, Yeon-woo had frequented airports like his own home and was well-acquainted with airports around the world.
Guided by Yeon-woo, they arrived at the lounge and found others already there.
“Hey, Yeon-woo, over here!”
Ahn Jun-ho waved his hand.
Min-soo also went forward to greet the managers of other actors who would be traveling together and headed to a nearby table.
“IS Yeon-woo here?”
“Yes. Nuna, are you feeling unwell?”
Unlike her usual energetic self, Han So-hyeon seemed somewhat downcast.
“Ugh… I’m afraid of airplanes.”
Ever since experiencing severe turbulence as a child, Han So-hyeon had been scared of flying, which was why she didn’t travel abroad often.
Comforting her, Yeon-woo assured her that everything would be fine. Soon, it was time, and they left the lounge, proceeding with the boarding process.
