Chapter 37: CHAPTER 36 - Invitation.
"Phew...
Mothers are really scary when they are angry, you know—"
Alex, looking at Vanessa vanish, sighed in relief, whipping the imaginary sweat on his forehead, turning to look at Vestian with a shake of his head, only to pause mid-sentence, his palm covering his lips in surprise as he remembered something.
"—Oops... my apologies, I forgot that you don't have a mother."
His words made Vestian, who was still in disbelief at how fast everything ended, clench his fists hard enough to make his fingers make cracking sounds, but that was all he could do.
He just kept staring at the floor, with his teeth gritting and his gums bleeding. He just hoped that his father would want to save him, 'Once it happens, I swear that I will kill you in a way that you will regret ever being born—'
"Oh, and just so you know, you aren't getting out of here alive. You are just a piece I'm going to use; after that, your role's over."
Vestain's thought, however, was cut short as Alex's words were heard, making Vestian's expression freeze, his gaze turning up to look at Alex, quivering in fear and uncertainty.
"W-Why do you want to kill me? I-I never did anything to you..." He questioned Alex, his voice breaking and his teeth clattering as the ice that he was covered in was so cold that he could still feel his bones creaking.
He just wanted to know why Alex was going to such lengths. He knew that he did wrong, and he did try to get information about Alex from Riya, but he was just trying to get to the depth of the case that implicated his church. He couldn't be called wrong to do that.
"Well, some guy said to me a while ago that you can never beat power with trickery, so when someone with power has decided something for the weak, shouldn't they just accept it?"
Alex, in reply to Vestian's question, just sneered, repeating the words that the guy had said before, making Vestian lower his head in defeat.
Alex didn't feel pity or regret, though. Vestian wasn't that bad right now, but Alex knew what was going to happen in a while, and he knew just what kind of character this guy was going to become, so he didn't really care about him.
"Aunt Alenia, please escort these two to the mana restraining jail." Alex then turned toward Alenia, who, by now, had her emotions shorted out and her fake smile on, making her nod her head.
"As you wish, Your Highness."
Hearing those words, although Alex frowned a bit, he still just nodded back to her and moved out of the room.
He needed to think about his next course of action, as this guy was just one of the first villains or heroes of the story he had faced; there were still many remaining, and to take care of them, he needed to be strong, as he was going to face many strong opponents as well.
The world was big, and he had yet to discover most of it, so he needed to be way stronger than he was right now. At least strong enough to not run to his mother every time he's in trouble.
He moved toward Vanessa's room, knowing full well that she needed some more explanation to calm her down completely.
'Hah...'
But a sigh of tiredness couldn't help but escape his lips as he looked out of the window in the path, staring at the vast blue sky with a weary smile tugging at his lips. The day had just started yet it had been so hectic.
All he was going to do now was meet with his mother and then hit the bed. Maybe have some fun with Sophie as well since he needed to make up with her as well.
So, with his hand tucked in his pants pocket, he walked forward, glancing out of another window on the way, only to see Alenia dragging both Vestian and Thomas toward a cave-like structure some distance away from the mansion.
But after a fleeting glance at them, he went on with whatever he had planned.
..................…..
'Alex...'
Alex, who, with his eyes closed, was lying in his room, cuddling with Sophie in his dream world, had his eyes flutter, opening up with a snap as he heard his mother's voice.
He frowned, as he knew well that his mother wouldn't do such a thing if it was not something really important. Even Vestian's case wasn't important enough for Vanessa to wake him from his sleep. Her cryptic tone just made him frown harder.
'What's wrong, mom—' He questioned, using his locket, but his words were cut short by a sharp sound.
"KIIIEEEEEE!!"
It was a screech of an eagle-like bird, and the moment he heard it, everything fit right in its spot. Why his mother woke him up was now clear. This loud shriek meant something—something very important.
This was something that had shocked everyone present in the area, so it was better to be awake when it was heard.
*Shatter*
The next second, the glass door in his room, which led to the balcony, shattered, and something flew right in, which Alex caught with his bare hands.
"KIIIEEEEEEE!!"
The sharp cry again rang out in the surroundings, making the ground itself tremble. There were some flapping sounds as well, but slowly, they became distant before vanishing altogether, leaving the area covered in a stunned silence.
Alex did see a flash of shadow going over his balcony from the same shattered door, but that was all he saw before his focus turned to the letter in his hand.
With bold golden letters, [ORIGINVEIL ACADEMY] was written at the forefront of the black letter, making it look mysterious and imposing at the same time. But this letter wasn't just a normal letter.
Alex knew exactly what it was.
It was an invitation to the most important, prominent, and prestigious academy in the world, which called for those people who are the best of the best.
But as said in the last line, it 'called' for the best of the best, but that didn't mean there were no cannon fodders in that academy—there were many of those types.
The leaders in the academy needed someone to rule over, after all.
Alex knew that this letter would come to him, and Alex also knew who sends these types of letters. It was all explained in the novel.
The principal of the academy was said to have an artifact that could inform her about the broken ability users born in any corner of the world. It helped her track them down so that she could send these letters to them.
It seemed like Alex's awakening was picked up by that artifact as well.
'I will have to go, Mom. You know the rule.' Getting off of his bed, Alex spoke, his expression serious as he knew that Vanessa wouldn't want him going there. Especially when the strongest people of the world reside there, but they don't have a choice.
Once you get this letter, you have to go to the academy.
'I know, and I will be coming with you.' Vanessa's reply was instantaneous, as she had already thought a lot about it, and Alex, who had expected something like this from her, just chuckled inwardly.
'As you wish, Mom.' He nodded his head, standing on his balcony and staring at the horizon as his mind reeled with many thoughts about his journey ahead.
His real journey was about to start. The academy was where the real novel started—a place where the clash between the main characters of the book took place, a place where many bonds broke and formed, and a place where beings from all over the world gathered.
He was about to start living for real now.
