Chapter 2: The First Couple
Raphael walked through the Gardens, watching the maids as they went about their gardening duties.
The Five Schools were built in a pentagon shape around this large area, and each of them was incredibly large and beautifully built.
It's going to take a while to get used to this luxury.
Raphael was born far from Vailstone, but after discovering his birthright, The White Dragon, he was sent to this nation by his king to apply for the Five Schools.
As he walked through the gardens, he noticed many groups of people walking around, heading to their first classes or towards their dorms.
Some wore the red uniform of the rose schools, whilst others wore blue, pink, black or yellow.
He noticed groups of students walking with each other, staring at him as he walked by, most likely wondering who the new student was.
More importantly, he saw couples. A lot of them.
Most of the time, they were partners from the same school, but every now and then, he saw two people holding hands despite wearing different uniforms.
So many targets for just one man.
He joked to himself, which caused him to chuckle as he reached the entrance to the Rose school.
A large red flower was designed onto the face of the school building.
"You must be the new student that everyone's been waiting for."
Raphael heard a voice coming from his side.
He turned to see a brown-haired man standing there, wearing the red outfit of the rose school.
He was handsome, and seemed to have a dignified look to him, as though he were born from some sort of royalty.
But Raphael's attentions were drawn to the woman holding his hand.
She had light brown hair that curled at the ends and fell to her shoulder.
Her breasts were large, practically bursting through the seams of her shirt.
Not only that, but her face was incredibly cute.
Well... What do we have here?
Raphael flashed a smile at the couple and held his hand out for the man to take.
"That's right. I'm Raphael, I just finished my exam today."
The brown-haired man took the hand and squeezed it in a tight grip trying to assert dominance.
"Ah yes, I remember that exam. How awkward it was, having to stand naked in front of a stranger."
Raphael hardly found it awkward. He had nothing to be ashamed of.
"I'm Damien of the Marister family. A-Rank student and heir to the Marister Estate." He spoke proudly, but Raphael had no idea what any of that stuff meant.
And he didn't care. His thoughts were elsewhere.
Damien noticed Raphael looking at the girl beside him.
"Oh, and this is my girlfriend, and hopefully soon-to-be wife, Celeste."
The beautiful woman held out her hand, and Raphael took it in his.
So soft.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Raphael. We rarely get new students in our school."
The two released their hands, but Raphael thought he noticed something.
Celeste's grip seemed to grow slightly stronger, as though she did not want to release his hands.
Not only that but her eyes.
She's looking at me with some sort of interest...
Or is this just my pride kicking in again?
Surely every woman does not want me.
Damien must have noticed the weird moment between his girlfriend and the new student, so he took his girlfriend's hand again and tried his best to look confident.
"If you don't mind me asking," Damien said. "But what rank were you assigned? There's no reason to feel ashamed, by the way; most people are given low ranks and slowly make their way upward over the years. I was granted the B-Rank, which was classed as exceptional for a new student, but after hard work, I eventually made my way up the-"
"I'm an S-Rank."
Raphael cut off the pathetic ranting of the man in front of him and held out his student identification for them to see.
Is he really this lame? What are you trying to prove by bragging?
The couple's eyes stared at the piece of paper in disbelief.
"It- it can't be... How?" Damien asked, jaw agape.
Celeste watched from the side, perhaps looking at Raphael in a new light.
But Raphael just shrugged his shoulders.
"Who knows? Anyways, I've got to head to my dorm, but I'm sure I'll see you guys around."
And with that, Damien bowed his head towards them, showing respect that he did not truly have.
But before he left, he exchanged one last look with Celeste.
He did not know what that look meant, but he was certain of one thing.
I'm sorry Damien, but I think I want your girlfriend.
