Chapter 104: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 105)
The rumbling of the earth beneath their feet grew louder, and the air around them seemed to thicken with a strange pressure. The crew, still catching their breath from the battle, exchanged uneasy glances. Despite their victory over the Guardian, the island wasn't ready to let them go.
Luffy, always ready for the next adventure, clenched his fists. "Come on, let's go! We've made it this far, we're not turning back now!"
But Robin raised a hand, her brow furrowing in concern. "There's something else… Something is still out of place."
The Heart of the Forgotten Isle, still glowing faintly in Luffy's hands, pulsed once more, this time with a sense of urgency. The ground beneath them cracked open again, but this time it wasn't just a rift in time—it was something far more sinister. A deep, unnatural energy began to emanate from the fissure.
"Not again…" Nami muttered, her eyes narrowing at the growing crack. "This island won't let us leave that easily."
Franky cracked his knuckles. "Well, if it's a fight it wants, it's a fight it'll get. Let's just finish this already!"
But the sound of the ticking clock grew louder, and it was joined by a deep, resonant hum, like the beating of a heart. It echoed from all directions, vibrating through the stone beneath their feet and in their bones. The pulse of the Heart seemed to sync with the strange hum, amplifying it, and for a moment, it felt like the island itself was alive.
Suddenly, the ground gave way beneath them, and the crew was swept into a massive, spiraling vortex of light and shadow. The world around them spun out of control, and the sense of time itself was completely lost. They felt as though they were falling through multiple realities at once—moments from the past, present, and future flashing by in a chaotic blur.
"Is this… is this what time really is?" Zoro shouted as they spun through the vortex, holding onto his swords.
"It's not time!" Robin said, her voice steady despite the disorienting fall. "This is the island's core, the heart of the Heart. It's not a power of time alone—it's something far deeper, something ancient. This place is a living entity, a being born from the very concept of forgotten memories. The past, present, and future… they all collide here. And now, we've reached its center."
With a sudden jolt, the crew was thrown out of the vortex, landing in what appeared to be an enormous cavern. The ground was smooth, almost metallic, and the walls pulsed with light, their patterns constantly shifting in ways that seemed unnatural. At the center of the cavern stood a massive structure—an obelisk that stretched toward the ceiling, glowing with the same energy as the Heart.
The Heart pulsed once more, resonating with the obelisk in a strange symphony. The cavern seemed to hum with life, and at that moment, they all realized they weren't alone.
From the shadows of the cavern, figures emerged—wraith-like beings, their bodies flickering in and out of existence. They moved with eerie fluidity, their forms shifting through time, never fully solid. Their eyes glowed a deep violet, and they gazed at the crew with a haunting intensity.
"They are the Keepers of the Heart," Robin said, her voice barely above a whisper. "The island's guardians. But they are not like the Guardian we fought before. These beings are born from the forgotten moments—those lost to time itself. They exist outside of the normal flow of time… and they protect the Heart."
The wraiths circled the crew, their movements erratic but purposeful. They seemed to be waiting for something.
Luffy, undeterred by the strange figures, raised his fist. "Well, if we have to fight them to move on, then let's do it!"
Suddenly, the largest of the wraiths—the one that seemed to lead the others—stepped forward. Its form flickered and solidified, revealing a tall, imposing figure draped in a cloak of shadows. Its eyes locked onto Luffy's with an intensity that sent a shiver down the crew's spines.
"You are not meant to be here," the wraith said, its voice a chorus of many voices, reverberating through the cavern. "The Heart of the Forgotten Isle is not for mortals. You have disturbed its sanctity, and for that, you will pay."
The air thickened as the wraith raised its hand, and a ripple of time distorted the space around it. The walls of the cavern seemed to warp, flickering like a broken mirror. In an instant, the wraith was upon them, moving with the fluidity of liquid time.
"Watch out!" Zoro shouted, leaping forward to intercept the wraith's attack. But his sword slashed through the figure with no effect—it was like cutting through air, the wraith's form shifting out of existence just as his blade struck.
"Impossible!" Zoro growled, stumbling back as the wraith reappeared behind him, sending a blast of temporal energy toward the crew. The shockwave rippled through the cavern, knocking them all off balance.
"This is bad!" Nami shouted, her staff crackling with energy as she tried to defend against the attack. "We can't fight them if we can't even touch them!"
Robin's mind raced. "We need to find the source of their power. The wraiths are manipulating time in the same way the Guardian did—but this is on a different scale. They're not just using time to fight us; they're using it to distort our reality."
The wraith leader tilted its head, its violet eyes glowing brighter. "You will never leave this place. The Heart belongs to the forgotten. Those who try to disturb its eternal flow must face its wrath."
Luffy grinned, his eyes blazing with determination. "I don't care about your wrath! I'm going to fix everything—this island, this Heart, and whatever messed-up world you think you control!"
He charged forward, his body stretching as he prepared to strike the wraith. "Gomu Gomu no…"
But before he could finish, the wraith raised its hand again, and time itself seemed to slow. The air became thick, and Luffy's movements slowed to a crawl, his rubbery limbs struggling to move through the oppressive weight of the temporal distortion.
"I won't let you stop me!" Luffy roared, breaking free from the wraith's hold with sheer willpower. His body snapped back to full speed as he lashed out with a powerful punch, his arm extending toward the wraith.
But just as Luffy's attack was about to land, the wraith vanished again, reappearing above him.
"Foolish mortal," the wraith whispered. "You cannot escape time."
Luffy's eyes narrowed. "We'll see about that!"
In that moment, the crew realized what they had to do. The wraiths, despite their power, were still bound to the Heart—and the Heart's pulse was connected to the very flow of time. If they could disrupt the pulse of the Heart, they could weaken the wraiths and stop the time manipulation.
"Everyone, focus!" Robin shouted. "We need to target the Heart's core! It's the source of their power!"
With renewed resolve, the crew sprang into action. The battle against the wraiths wasn't just about physical strength—it was about timing, about syncing their attacks with the Heart's pulse and breaking the cycle that bound the wraiths to this place.
The real trial was just beginning.
To be continued…
