Chapter 110: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 111)
The first rays of sunlight broke over the horizon, casting a soft golden hue across the island. The crew emerged from the cavern, their faces tired but determined. The battle they had fought—not just against the forces of time, but against the very fate of the island—had taken its toll. But there was a new sense of calm in the air. The oppressive weight that had hung over them was gone, replaced by an almost tangible sense of peace.
Luffy, always the optimist, was the first to speak. "See? I told you we could do it! Now, we can finally relax!"
Sanji grinned, wiping sweat from his brow. "I'll believe it when I'm back on the ship. But for now, let's take a break. I need a proper meal!"
Nami smiled, but there was a spark of concern in her eyes. "It feels too quiet now. After everything that's happened, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched."
Robin nodded, her eyes scanning the horizon. "It's true. The island is no longer shifting or warping, but there's a strange stillness to it. Almost as if it's waiting for something."
Zoro shrugged, his eyes half-closed as he took in the surroundings. "We did what we came to do. If something else is going to happen, it'll happen. For now, I think we've earned a little rest."
Before anyone could respond, the ground beneath their feet trembled. It was subtle at first—just a faint vibration, like the island itself was stretching after a long slumber. Then, the tremors grew stronger, and the sky above began to darken again, as if a storm was rolling in from the distant horizon.
"What now?" Usopp's voice was a mixture of fear and curiosity. "I thought we fixed everything!"
The island didn't respond with words, but the entire landscape shifted. The once-calm sea turned turbulent, and the trees on the island began to bend and sway as if caught in a fierce wind. The crew braced themselves as a low, rumbling sound filled the air, growing louder and louder, like a distant roar of an animal stirring in its sleep.
Luffy's eyes narrowed, and his fists clenched. "This isn't over. I can feel it."
Suddenly, from the depths of the forest, something massive emerged. A giant shape, moving swiftly through the trees, its form indistinct at first but growing clearer with each passing second. The creature was huge—far larger than anything they had encountered before on the island. Its body was covered in dark, stone-like scales, and its eyes glowed with an eerie, violet light that matched the strange energy that had once consumed the Heart.
"What in the world is that?!" Nami shouted, her voice trembling.
Robin's brow furrowed as she analyzed the creature. "It looks like an ancient guardian. A protector of the island, perhaps. But why is it emerging now?"
The creature let out a deafening roar, shaking the very ground beneath them. It was as if the island itself was alive, reacting to the disturbance in the air. The massive beast towered over the crew, its long, segmented limbs moving with surprising speed for something so large. Its body was an amalgamation of stone and living tissue, its form distorted and unnatural. From its back, a massive tail whipped through the air, its tip glowing with an ominous energy.
Luffy's grin returned. "Alright! Time to take on a big one! This'll be fun!"
Zoro cracked his neck, preparing for the inevitable fight. "It's been too quiet around here anyway."
Sanji stepped forward, his hands glowing with fire. "Let's get this over with. I could use a good fight."
But before any of them could move, the creature spoke—its voice deep and resonant, echoing through the air.
"You have disturbed the balance," it said, its voice like a rumble of thunder. "The Heart's power was not meant to be awakened. The cycle must be completed. You cannot defy fate."
Luffy's eyes narrowed. "I don't care about fate! We make our own future, remember?"
The creature's eyes glowed brighter, the energy surrounding it intensifying. "Then you will face the consequences of your defiance."
In an instant, the creature lunged forward, its massive claws swiping through the air. The crew barely had time to react as the force of the attack sent them scattering in all directions. Luffy quickly regained his balance, stretching his arm out to catch a nearby tree to propel himself back into the fray.
"This is gonna be a tough one," Luffy muttered under his breath, but his grin never faltered.
"Don't get cocky, Captain!" Nami shouted as she summoned her staff, readying herself for the battle ahead. "We don't know what this thing can do!"
The creature's roar echoed again, this time accompanied by a burst of dark energy that shot toward them, forming a wave of destructive power. The crew barely had time to dodge, scattering as the blast tore through the ground where they had been standing.
Robin's arms multiplied, blocking several of the energy blasts with her power. "It's using energy from the Heart," she observed. "We can't let it use that power to its advantage."
Zoro's swords gleamed in the dim light. "Then we'll take it down before it gets the chance."
With that, the crew launched into action. Luffy used his agility to dodge the creature's attacks, his fists landing blows on its stone-like body with resounding force. Zoro followed up, slashing at the creature's limbs with precise strikes, while Sanji attacked with fiery kicks, aiming for the creature's underbelly.
Usopp, always the strategist, fired explosive projectiles from a safe distance, trying to weaken the creature's defenses. "Hey, keep it distracted, and I'll hit it with the big one!" he yelled.
Despite their combined efforts, the creature didn't falter. Its body was tough, and the energy it emitted seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. It retaliated with massive blasts of violet energy, forcing the crew to continuously move, dodge, and regroup.
The island itself trembled with every blow, as if the beast and the Heart were bound together in a final, desperate struggle to preserve the island's original fate.
Luffy narrowed his eyes as he dodged yet another energy blast. "We need to stop it from using that power. If we can do that, we'll win."
Robin's expression grew serious. "But how? It's drawing from the Heart itself. We need to sever that connection."
Luffy grinned, a glint of determination in his eyes. "Leave it to me! I've got an idea."
The crew exchanged wary glances but trusted Luffy to figure something out. They fought harder, pushing the creature back bit by bit.
Luffy's voice rang out above the chaos. "Hey, big guy! Over here!"
The creature turned its glowing eyes toward Luffy, its focus now fixed on the Straw Hat captain. With a roar, it charged, its massive claws ready to strike.
Luffy's grin widened. "Time to finish this!"
