Chapter 39: *One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 39)*
The Thousand Sunny cut through the waves as the Straw Hat Pirates sailed further into the unknown, the tension of the recent battle slowly beginning to fade. But despite the victory, a lingering sense of unease hovered over them, especially Robin, who hadn't let go of the artifact since the fight with Sable. Her fingers brushed over the smooth surface of the broken relic, her mind racing.
"What do you think this is, Robin?" Luffy asked suddenly, his voice full of curiosity, as he leaned against the mast, watching her closely.
Robin looked up from the artifact, her eyes distant. "It's not just an artifact," she said quietly. "It's a key—a key to unlocking something far more powerful. What we've encountered so far is just the surface."
"Surface of what?" Nami asked, her brow furrowed. "I thought we were after the One Piece. Now you're telling me this is part of something even bigger?"
Robin nodded, her expression serious. "This artifact, combined with others like it, could open doors to ancient powers, ones that even the World Government has been desperately trying to control. If they are after it, there's a reason."
Luffy grinned, slamming his fist into his palm. "Well, that sounds fun! I've always wanted to see more secrets of the world. Let's go find them!"
Zoro shook his head, his eyes narrowed. "It's not going to be that easy. Whoever's after that thing won't just let us waltz in and take what we want. We've already made enemies by keeping it."
Sanji, ever the optimist when it came to a fight, lit a cigarette. "Well, if they want a piece of the action, they'll have to deal with us. We're not backing down."
Robin's gaze hardened. "This isn't just about fighting. It's about understanding what's hidden beneath the surface. If we don't figure this out quickly, we could all be in more danger than we realize."
At that moment, Chopper bounded over to them, his eyes wide with excitement. "We're coming up on an island! I think it's a good place to restock and maybe get some answers!"
Nami looked at the horizon and saw a small island rising in the distance. "Perfect timing. We could use a break after all that fighting."
The crew made their way to the island, ready to gather supplies and perhaps learn more about the artifact's true nature. As they docked on the sandy shore, the island appeared peaceful, a stark contrast to the chaos they had just left behind. It was covered in lush greenery, with towering trees and the sounds of wildlife filling the air. But there was something off about the place—an eerie silence lingered in the air, despite the vibrant scenery.
"I don't know about you guys," Nami said, looking around cautiously. "But this place feels... strange."
"Agreed," Robin said, her tone low. "It's too quiet. Let's be on our guard."
Luffy, eager as always, bounced off the ship and onto the shore. "Come on, let's check it out! The sooner we find answers, the sooner we can move on to the next adventure!"
As the crew walked further inland, they came across a small village, its buildings built from wood and thatch. The few villagers they saw were working silently, their faces devoid of expression. No one spoke, and no one seemed to acknowledge the crew's presence.
"Is this place abandoned?" Sanji muttered, eyeing the villagers suspiciously. "They don't look like they're too friendly."
Robin approached one of the villagers, a middle-aged man who was carrying a bundle of firewood. "Excuse me," she said gently, "We're travelers. Could you tell us more about this island?"
The man looked at her blankly for a moment, as if processing her words. Then, without saying a word, he dropped the firewood and walked away, his steps slow and mechanical.
"That's not normal," Chopper said, his voice quivering. "Something's wrong here."
The crew exchanged uneasy glances. Something about the island, the villagers, and the atmosphere was unsettling.
"Maybe we should get back to the ship," Zoro suggested, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "This doesn't feel right."
But before they could turn back, a loud rumbling sound echoed from deep within the island. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the earth shook violently, and the trees swayed as if caught in a powerful wind.
"What the heck is that?!" Usopp shouted, his usual bravado slipping as the ground continued to shake.
Suddenly, the earth cracked open, and a massive figure emerged from beneath the surface—a colossal, stone-like golem, towering over the trees. Its eyes were glowing with an unnatural, eerie light, and its massive fists clenched as it began to move toward the crew.
"Get ready, everyone!" Luffy shouted, his voice filled with excitement rather than fear. "It's time for a fight!"
Zoro drew his swords, and Sanji prepared his legs for combat. Robin, still holding the artifact, took a step back, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. The artifact was beginning to hum with energy, as if reacting to the creature's appearance.
The giant golem let out a deafening roar, and its massive hands reached out, aiming to crush the crew beneath its enormous weight.
"We've got no choice now!" Luffy said, his body already coiling in preparation for his attack. "Gomu Gomu no—"
Before he could finish, the ground shook again, this time much stronger, and several smaller golems began to emerge from the earth, surrounding the Straw Hats.
"This is bad," Robin muttered, her face tense. "These creatures… they're tied to the island's history. We need to figure out what's controlling them."
As the golems charged forward, the Straw Hat Pirates prepared for a fierce battle. They had no choice but to fight through the enemies in front of them to uncover the truth behind this strange island.
But with every punch, every strike, the feeling that they were uncovering something far more dangerous than they anticipated grew stronger. The island's mysteries were far from over.
To be continued…
