Chapter 80: One Piece: A Side Story – The Forgotten Isle (Part 81)
The eerie figures surrounding the Straw Hat Pirates shimmered in the dim, glowing light. Their forms were shifting and intangible, like apparitions made of smoke and shadow. Despite their ghostly appearance, the air around them crackled with a menacing energy. They were not simply illusions—they were real, and they had come to test the crew.
Luffy, his usual carefree grin not fading, cracked his knuckles. "This is getting exciting! Let's see what these guys have got!" He charged forward, determined to take on whatever lay ahead. But before his fist could connect with the closest figure, it shifted like smoke, dodging his attack with ease.
"Hey! Come back here!" Luffy shouted, his excitement undeterred by the apparition's swift movement. He immediately launched himself after it, his rubbery limbs stretching to catch the elusive foe.
Zoro stepped forward, his eyes narrowing with focus. "Luffy, wait! These things are too fast for you to just rush in like that!" But his warning was drowned out by the growing intensity of the encounter. One of the figures rose toward Zoro, its form solidifying into something more tangible—a towering specter with hollow eyes. It lunged at him with blinding speed.
Without hesitation, Zoro unsheathed his swords. "I'm ready for you!" He slashed with precision, but the figure flickered, barely evading the strike before vanishing into the air like smoke. Zoro's eyes darted around, his senses heightened. "I can't keep up with these things. We need a new strategy."
Sanji spun into action, delivering a swift kick to one of the figures as it neared him. His foot connected, but the phantom simply dispersed, only to reform a moment later. "What are these things made of?!" Sanji grunted, his brow furrowed in frustration. "They just keep dodging everything!"
Nami, ever the strategist, observed the battle closely. "They're not just attacking— they're reading our movements! It's like they know what we're going to do before we do it." She glanced at Robin, who was calm amidst the chaos. "We need to outsmart them. Robin, can you help us figure out how to beat them?"
Robin nodded, her eyes scanning the swirling apparitions. "These entities seem to be manifestations of the ship's trials. They are feeding off our fear and hesitation. The more we react with panic, the stronger they become."
Chopper, still trembling, stood beside Nami, trying to steady his nerves. "So if we don't fear them, they'll lose power?" he asked, his voice shaky but determined.
"Exactly," Robin replied. "The ship is testing us, but we must face it with our hearts steady. If we show hesitation or fear, we will lose."
Usopp, peering through his goggles, realized something. "Wait! These guys are connected to our own fears! I think they're changing form based on what we're most afraid of!"
Franky crossed his arms, a grin spreading across his face. "In that case, I'm not afraid of anything! Let's crush these shadows once and for all!" He charged forward, but instead of attacking blindly, he observed his surroundings. "They're getting more aggressive, but there's something else. There's a rhythm to their movements. It's like they're reacting to us!"
Luffy, still grinning, was the first to realize the pattern. "I get it now! They're just trying to get us to fall for their tricks! All we need to do is ignore them and keep moving forward!"
Without warning, he lunged at the central platform, his arms stretching like rubber as he reached for the glowing symbols beneath his feet. His fingers brushed the platform's surface, and the moment he made contact, the ship seemed to groan in response. The floor beneath them shifted, and the ghostly figures faltered, their forms flickering as if the very energy sustaining them was weakening.
Zoro, taking the cue, swung his swords in a wide arc, slicing through the remaining apparitions. The swords passed through them like a gust of wind, their forms disintegrating with each strike.
Sanji delivered a final powerful roundhouse kick, sending the last of the figures into the air, where they vanished with a puff of smoke. The eerie silence returned, but the energy in the air felt different—lighter, as if the oppressive weight that had hung over them had lifted.
The platform in the center of the room stopped glowing, its pulsing light fading into the shadows. The ghostly presence that had once haunted the ship was gone, leaving only the stillness behind.
Luffy, panting but triumphant, turned to his crew. "See? I told you we could do it! Piece of cake!" He grinned, his usual enthusiasm unshaken by the ordeal.
Zoro sheathed his swords, his eyes still sharp. "That wasn't easy, but it was expected. This ship doesn't let anyone pass without testing them first."
Sanji wiped sweat from his brow, relieved. "If they were trying to scare us, they failed. We've been through much worse than that."
Robin nodded, her calm demeanor unwavering. "It wasn't just about strength. It was a test of our resolve. The ship needed to see if we could overcome our own fears and continue on our path."
Nami crossed her arms, a thoughtful look on her face. "This is only the beginning. We've passed one trial, but there will be more. Whatever this ship holds, it's not going to give it up easily."
Chopper let out a relieved sigh, his hooves no longer trembling. "We made it! We really made it!"
The crew stood together, their bonds stronger than ever. They had faced the ship's trials and come out victorious, but they knew this was just the first of many challenges awaiting them. Whatever secrets the ship held, they were determined to uncover them, no matter what price they had to pay.
And with that, they pressed forward, ready for whatever awaited them in the depths of the forgotten isle.
