Chapter 19: Nami’s Escape
"You smoke too?" Sanji asked, looking at Clover.
"Occasionally," Clover replied, taking a puff of his cigar. "Tch, what's a Marine Lieutenant doing smoking such a low-quality cigar?" He then dropped the cigar to the ground and stomped it out.
"Here, smoke mine," Sanji said generously, taking out his cigarette case and offering it to Clover.
"Thanks," Clover nodded, taking one of Sanji's cigarettes and lighting it.
Meanwhile, Krieg's men, now full of food and wine, were celebrating their survival. Just as they were about to cheer louder, a black boat with candles lit, despite the broad daylight, sailed ominously toward them.
"Oh!!!" the pirates cried out, jumping off the ship and rushing toward the restaurant. "Get out of the way, cooks!"
Suddenly, there was the unmistakable sound of a blade being unsheathed, followed by the sight of the entire massive ship being split in two. The force was so powerful that the ship momentarily floated before sinking into the sea.
"What just happened?!" Krieg shouted in alarm.
"Captain Krieg! The main ship... it's been cut in half!" one of the pirates yelled in terror.
Everyone in the restaurant could see what had happened and stood in shock.
"Cut off? You mean that massive ship? This is ridiculous! How could something like that even happen!?" Krieg shouted, clearly still traumatized by his experience on the Grand Line and selectively forgetting the real dangers he'd fled from.
The enormous ship splitting caused massive waves, and the restaurant rocked violently. Everyone scrambled to hold onto something to avoid being thrown overboard.
"Quick! Raise the anchor! This ship's going to be caught in the waves too!" Zeff shouted.
"Yes, sir!" the chef steering the ship quickly responded and ran out.
"Oh no! Nami, Joseph, and Johnny are still outside!" Zoro exclaimed as he dashed down the stairs and ran outside.
"Damn, it might be too late!" Usopp followed closely behind.
However, Clover was already ahead of them, making it outside just in time to see Nami leaving on a small boat.
Clover had been thinking about the fight with Mihawk, but the sight of Nami reminded him of her plan to return to Arlong. He had almost forgotten about that.
Clover hesitated for a moment, torn between catching up to Nami and facing Mihawk. Just as he made up his mind, an alert sounded in his mind, startling him.
[Didi Didi... Mission Triggered: Confront the Seven Warlords of the Sea - Mihawk. Win or lose, reward: Modification Point x1]
Clover glanced around and saw Mihawk standing on a small boat nearby. The mission had triggered because Mihawk had entered his line of sight.
Now Clover didn't need to choose. He decided to stay and fight Mihawk. After all, Nami would be fine for the moment.
"Where's the boat?!" Zoro shouted when Luffy, Usopp, and he arrived. All they could see were Joseph and Johnny flailing in the water.
"Sorry, brother, she's gone!" Johnny called out from the water.
"Sister Nami, she..."
"She ran away with all the treasure!" both of them yelled.
"What did you say?!" The three shouted in unison, horrified.
"Huh?"
Clover was equally stunned.
He rushed back to the restaurant, only to find that the two large bags of treasure he'd kept at his feet were gone. "That... sneaky little cat!"
Clover clenched his fists, gritting his teeth in frustration.
He glanced back at the sunken ship outside, his resolve to defeat Krieg's "diamond fist" growing even stronger.
Meanwhile, Luffy managed to pull Joseph and Johnny out of the water.
"What did you just say?" Usopp shouted.
"Nami ran off with the Going Merry?!" Luffy exclaimed.
"What the hell's going on?!" Zoro demanded.
"It happened just a moment ago..." Joseph and Johnny then recounted the events.
Nami had returned for a short while, holding two large bags of Clover's treasure. She told them she was going back to the ship, but once she changed clothes, she knocked them out and left with the treasure.
"That's it... She took the ship," Johnny said, kneeling and apologizing.
"We're really sorry!" Joseph added, bowing his head.
"Damn it! She really took advantage of the situation!" Zoro said, punching the side of the boat in frustration.
"That ship was a gift from Kaya!" Usopp shouted, clenching his fists in anger.
"My five million berries!" Clover growled, already fantasizing about what he'd do when he caught Nami. He had every intention of making her pay.
"Wait, can you still see the ship? Where's it headed?" Luffy asked, standing on the fence and looking at Joseph and Johnny, who had a small boat.
"Y-Yes..." Johnny stammered.
"Clover, Zoro, Usopp! You guys go after her and bring her back!" Luffy ordered.
"Forget it. Just let her have the ship. We don't need to chase after someone like that," Zoro muttered.
"I need her to be my navigator," Luffy said firmly, locking eyes with Zoro.
After a moment, Zoro sighed, relenting. "Really? You're such a troublesome captain... Fine, I'll go. Hey, Clover, Usopp, let's move."
Just as Joseph and Johnny were preparing their boat, the chefs emerged from the restaurant. Zeff noticed the small boat on the sea and his pupils dilated in recognition.
Hearing Zeff's reaction, Zoro followed his gaze and also caught sight of the boat. His eyes widened.
"That guy... He's here for me..." Krieg suddenly remembered the terrifying experience he had run from.
"Could it be... that's Mihawk?" Zoro's hands tightened on the railing, his body trembling. "The man I've been searching for... Mihawk."
"Mihawk?" Luffy echoed, following Zoro's gaze.
Sitting in the small boat was a man with a black top hat, a black and dark red coat, and a large sword on his back.
"The world's greatest swordsman..." Zoro swallowed hard.
"Is that the man who single-handedly sank fifty of Krieg's ships on the Grand Line?" Paddy shouted, recognizing Mihawk.
"Then... the one who just destroyed their ship was also..."
"But he looks like any other man... He doesn't even seem to carry any special weapons."
"The weapon is on his back," Zeff corrected, his eyes fixed on Mihawk.
