Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The Great Pirates of the New World

"Kid, why aren't you in class? How did you get out here?"

As Jon and the others were strolling around, a loud, angry shout suddenly rang out in their ears.

Before they could even react, a white figure appeared in front of them in an instant, slapping Dragon on the head.

Bang!

Do you see any CHINESE places or terms (NOT NAMES) in this chapter if not just reply with no

Although Dragon tried to dodge as best as he could, he was still struck on the head. Angrily, he shouted, "Old man, have you lost your mind?"

"Such speed."

Jon was secretly shocked.

The moment he heard the shout, he activated his Observation Haki, but all he managed to catch was a faint presence.

By the time he registered what was happening, the person had already appeared right in front of them.

This was something Jon had never experienced before.

Back in the South Blue, no one could avoid his Observation Haki's detection.

Even among this year's recruits, including Kizaru and Akainu, no one could escape his Haki's awareness.

The only uncertainty was whether Kizaru, using his Devil Fruit powers, could evade it.

But now, standing before him was a tall, muscular man who made even his Observation Haki difficult to track.

If this person attacked, no matter how strong Jon's Observation Haki was, he would definitely be unable to avoid it.

The man before them was wearing the Marine justice cloak, with a white suit, and a Marine Vice Admiral's rank.

His large frame, broad chest, and a scar above his left eye made him imposing.

He had blue eyes, short black hair, a beard, and wore a dog-head hat.

He was glaring at Dragon with a vicious look.

"Kid, I sent you to Zephyr to learn, and here you are, running off to play. Do you believe I'll beat you to death?"

"Old man, don't go too far! We have a day off today. What's wrong with us being out here?"

Dragon was clearly not happy.

If it were anyone else, he would have already lost his temper, but when facing his own father, he had no choice but to keep it in.

Both Kizaru and Akainu, who were ready to act at any moment, relaxed immediately after hearing the conversation between Dragon and Garp.

"Day off?"

Garp looked confused for a moment, then scanned Jon and the others.

After confirming the situation, he laughed heartily, "Hahaha, so it's a day off! Why didn't you say so earlier? You asked for it!"

"Hmph."

Dragon, who had long been used to his father's character, didn't argue but just looked at him with disdain.

His father was truly unreliable—he had no respect for him, and would openly threaten to hit him in front of others.

"Are they your classmates? Well, then! I'll treat you all today! Let's go grab a bite!"

Garp, completely ignoring his son's expression, cheerfully addressed Jon and the others.

Without waiting for a reply, he led the way.

"This?" Jon and the others looked at Dragon.

Dragon sighed helplessly, "Let's go, it's rare for the old man to be generous."

Garp, clearly familiar with the area, quickly led Jon and the others to a restaurant, ordering a massive amount of food.

"You three are Dragon's classmates, right? I'm his father. Just call me Uncle Garp."

Looking at the laughing Garp, Jon was somewhat uncomfortable and spoke first, "Vice Admiral Garp."

Upon hearing this, Garp's expression immediately changed, and he sternly said, "What do you mean 'Vice Admiral'? There are no Vice Admirals here! Just call me Uncle Garp."

Jon had no choice but to comply, "Uncle Garp."

Kizaru casually followed suit, but Akainu hesitated for a moment before finally doing the same.

"Hahaha..." Garp laughed even more, making Jon speechless.

Garp's sense of humor was a bit too low, and when he looked at Dragon, he saw him facepalming, looking like he couldn't bear to watch.

"Kid, you better learn well under Zephyr. That guy may be serious and boring, but his skills are top-notch. His martial arts are even better than mine. If you don't improve, I'll beat you myself."

Garp said with a serious expression as he warned Dragon.

Dragon quickly changed the subject, "Dad, weren't you supposed to be in the New World? How did you come back so soon?"

Garp replied, "I had a run-in with Shiki the Golden Lion in the New World. That guy can really run, I couldn't catch him, so I had to come back."

At this point, Garp looked a bit frustrated.

Shiki was currently one of the most powerful pirates in the New World.

Garp had gone to the New World to stop Shiki's expansion, but when he arrived, Shiki immediately used his Devil Fruit powers to escape, and even Garp, with all his strength, couldn't catch the flying pirate.

"I heard the New World is in chaos right now. Even Admiral Sengoku was sent there. Is it really that bad?" Dragon asked, clearly interested in the current situation.

"Chaotic? Of course, it's chaotic."

Garp's carefree face became a bit more serious as he explained, "Let me tell you all about it. It's not a problem for you little ones to hear this, and maybe you can get a taste of what's going on."

Jon and the others immediately perked up, eager to learn more about the current state of the world.

After all, they all aspired to make something of themselves, and understanding the world was key.

"The Grand Line's second half, the area known as the New World, is where the greatest number of pirates gather. Among the thousands of pirates, there are a few particularly powerful ones, and even the Marines have a hard time dealing with them."

"Pirates have gotten that strong? The Marines can't even defeat them?" Akainu frowned deeply, displeased.

He was a man of absolute justice and despised pirates.

He joined the Marines to wipe them out, so hearing that pirates were becoming such a force made him unhappy.

Garp continued, "It's not that we can't defeat them. It's just that it comes at too great a cost, and it's not always worth it. No matter how strong a pirate is, they'll still run when they face the Marines."

This wasn't Garp exaggerating the Marines' strength, it was just the reality. Most pirates would flee when faced with the Marines, even pirates like Shiki, who were top-tier, wouldn't seek a direct confrontation if they could avoid it.

"Currently, the strongest pirate crew in the New World is the Flying Pirate Crew of Shiki the Golden Lion. He's a Devil Fruit user who can fly. His crew is incredibly difficult to deal with. They are by far the most powerful pirate crew in the New World."

"After them, there's the Roger Pirates, the Whitebeard Pirates, and the Charlotte family's pirates. Their captains are all monsters, and their bounties have surpassed a billion Berries."

In this time period, bounties weren't as inflated as they would be decades later, but there were only a few pirates with bounties that high.

"Shiki is a real powerhouse with big ambitions. Roger is also tough to deal with, and his crew is filled with monsters. As for Whitebeard, his ability is terrifying. Charlotte Leolot is also a monster, and there are other pirates out there. The New World is truly chaotic. If it weren't for the Marines keeping it in check, it would have been in complete turmoil."
