Chapter 11: Chapter 11: The First Principal of Onigashima Kindergarten
"Worororo! Yamato, my daughter, how could I ever be angry with you?"
Kaido's booming laughter filled the room as he gently patted Yamato's back, savoring a moment of rare tenderness. Tears welled up in his eyes, though whether from emotion or the remnants of his drunken stupor was hard to tell.
The Beast Pirates lingering nearby wisely tiptoed away, leaving only one hapless underling frozen in place, trembling like a leaf.
Kaido held Yamato close until her breathing steadied, signaling she'd drifted off to sleep. It was then that he noticed Jack standing nearby, an amused smirk on his face. Flustered, Kaido carefully stood, his massive frame moving with surprising delicacy. Avoiding eye contact, he turned to leave.
"Hey, Kaido-ossan! What's the rush? Sneaking off already?" Jack called out, his tone laced with playful sarcasm.
"And what about my room? Why'd you smash it to bits?!"
Kaido coughed awkwardly, quickening his steps. As he reached the doorway, his eyes fell on the trembling minion still blocking his path. Without a second thought, he lifted a foot and sent the poor man flying with a mighty kick. The unfortunate pirate crashed through the window, disappearing into the night.
Outside, King was waiting. He caught the flailing pirate midair with a frown before gliding back up to the wrecked room. Upon surveying the damage, King's gaze darkened.
"An intruder?" he asked, his tone sharp. "Jack, explain."
Jack, caught off guard, stammered, "W-Well… someone who looked a lot like Kaido-sama barged in, smashed my door, and took Yamato without saying a word! You should check it out!"
King didn't reply immediately. He activated his Observation Haki, scanning the area before turning back to Jack.
"What are you—wait, no, don't come any closer! King, calm down!" Jack protested as King advanced menacingly.
By the next morning, thanks to the absurdly skilled construction abilities of the Beast Pirates, Jack's room was fully restored, as if nothing had happened. It seemed having a perpetually drunk and destructive captain had its perks—his crew had all but mastered the art of rebuilding.
A low, droning sound reverberated from outside the window. Jack rushed to investigate and saw Kaido in his dragon form, carrying Yamato on his back. The two soared gracefully through the sky in what might have been a heartwarming father-daughter scene—if not for their grating laughter.
Kaido's throaty, strained chuckles ("Worororo…") were as unsettling as ever, sounding like they belonged to a palace eunuch rather than a fearsome pirate. Meanwhile, Yamato, having been subjected to Jack's relentless cultural bombardment, was attempting to refine her laugh into something more ladylike. Unfortunately, the result sounded closer to a warrior's battle cry:
"Wahaha!"
Jack watched the spectacle with a mix of envy and dread.
Just don't pull out a sword mid-laugh and call yourself a hero of justice, he thought, shuddering at the possibility.
To his relief, Yamato didn't go that far. Her laugh, though rough, was still manageable. Meanwhile, Kaido seemed delighted, his raspy "Worororo" unbroken.
That evening, Kaido invited Jack and King to share drinks. By then, his voice had taken on a distinctly hoarse, duck-like quality.
"Bwahahaha! Jack, you little brat, I gotta hand it to you—you've done a great job with Yamato!" Kaido praised, slamming a massive sake barrel onto the table.
Jack frowned, his expression darkening as he eyed the barrel, which was larger than his head.
"Kaido-sama, I'm still growing. Drinking this much will stunt my development—not to mention my intelligence."
"Quit whining and drink!" Kaido bellowed.
Gulp, gulp, gulp…
Jack downed the alcohol, his face flushed red by the time he finished. He slammed the empty barrel onto the table and shouted, "Kaido-sama! I've done my part training Yamato! Isn't it time you let me leave Onigashima and sail with King?"
Kaido's laughter faltered, but before he could respond, King spoke up coldly.
"Jack, drop it. You're not ready. You wouldn't survive a day out there."
"King, don't be so harsh on him," Kaido interjected, waving a dismissive hand. He turned to Jack, his expression softening—though not by much. "Jack, you've got potential. One day, you'll be as strong as King or Queen. But right now, you're nowhere close. This is the Beast Pirates—we value strength above all. For now, your only job is to train, eat, and grow stronger. Got it?"
Jack's face fell as Kaido continued. "And Yamato still needs your guidance. I'm grooming her to be Wano's next shogun. I can't have her backslide into her old ways. That's where you come in, Jack."
Jack groaned, slumping in defeat. "Kaido-sama, she's already fine! Any more 'guidance,' and she'll turn into another me. Besides, if you want her to act like a proper girl, at least bring some women here! This place is full of men—it's no wonder she acts the way she does!"
Kaido stroked his beard thoughtfully. "You've got a point. Fine, I'll bring in a few women to help her out. Black Maria's about your age—I'll have her move here too. She's another Ancient Zoan user with potential to become an officer. You better step up, Jack. Can't have you losing to her, can we?"
"Step up?" Jack muttered, despair written across his face. "First Yamato, now Black Maria? And more kids after that? You really do see me as the principal of Onigashima Kindergarten…"
Kaido's booming laughter echoed through the room. Jack sighed deeply, resigned to his fate.
