One Piece: My Name is Jack, I'm Very Resistant to Beating

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: It Seems My Judgment Can’t Compare to Kaido’s

"Since the host hasn't made any choices for a while, the system has automatically rolled the lottery. Congratulations, host, you've gained +1 Perception."

The system's voice quickly dampened Jack's excitement. Looking at Yamato's slightly horrified expression, Jack realized he was unconsciously dancing while holding an unconscious Black Maria in his arms.

"Ahem... ahem..."

"I was just checking if her injuries were serious. Don't misunderstand, Yamato."

"Oh? Is that so? Then I really must thank you, Jack!"

Black Maria's eyes fluttered open, glaring daggers at him as she barked, "Let go of your filthy hands!"

Jack quickly let go, causing Black Maria to almost stumble to the ground. She shot him one last venomous glance before turning to leave.

"Hey! Where are you going?" Jack called after her. "We still need to train! Is that really necessary?"

Ignoring him, Black Maria gently touched her wobbly tooth and shouted back irritably, "Scram! I'll tell Kaido-sama about this! Damn you, Jack!"

"If my tooth falls out, I'll kill you!"

"Tch, such a child!" Jack muttered under his breath, rolling his eyes. Running to tell the grown-ups? Seriously?

Turning back to Yamato with a forced smile, he said gently, "Forget her, Yamato. Let's keep training, just the two of us."

Yamato frowned, recalling the long, painful mark left on Black Maria's face from Jack's trunk. She hesitated and shook her head.

"What's with that expression? Don't tell me you're scared?" Jack teased. "Would you ever back down?"

At that, Yamato transformed instantly. Jack barely had time to leap onto the deck, yelling, "Bring the ship closer!"

...

Watching his Agility stat increase by another point, Jack finally felt some satisfaction. But his mood soured the next day when, after another spirited battle with Yamato, he discovered that he hadn't earned any rewards.

After some experimentation, Jack realized the system had a cooldown period for rewards from fighting the same opponent. The wait? Five days. Manageable.

As for the random pirate grunts? Too bad. The system didn't even recognize them as worthy opponents.

"Ugh, come on! Not even good enough to farm for scraps? System, you really don't know how to create value!" Jack grumbled.

With only Black Maria and Yamato available on the island for farming, Jack had no choice but to curb his daily urges to beat them senseless and limit himself to once every five days. In the meantime, he began hosting "Jack's Little Classroom."

Despite her seemingly mature demeanor, Black Maria was still a child at heart. Faced with Jack's enchanting tales of magical lands and names she'd never heard of, her initial resistance crumbled in less than half a day. She was captivated.

Gotcha, Jack thought smugly. Back in the day, I was a beacon of goodwill. Handling a tsundere girl like you? Child's play.

For the sake of his future peace and happiness, Jack vowed to "reform" her thoroughly. Over time, Maria's hostility dissipated, and Jack reveled in the steadily increasing system stats.

The real jackpot came when he finally defeated both Yamato and Black Maria in a two-on-one match. The system granted him a rare bonus: his Devil Fruit proficiency jumped to the Intermediate level. Overjoyed, Jack cooked up a feast of his favorite dishes from his past life, leaving the girls thoroughly impressed.

"From now on, you're in charge of all our meals!" Yamato declared enthusiastically.

Jack responded with a dry laugh—and a long trunk swipe to the back of her head.

"Yeah, right! I'm destined to become the King of Ships, not a chef!"

Still, Jack couldn't help but complain about the food on the island.

Is it just me, or do the cooks in the Beast Pirates suck?

After "encouraging" the kitchen staff to step up their game, meals on Onigashima became bearable.

It wasn't until the skies over Onigashima began to snow that King finally returned. His wyvern-figurehead ship docked smoothly in the harbor after two months away. With the crew stretched thin due to expanding territory, the Beast Pirates' base had been left largely unattended. Seeing the state of things, King couldn't help but worry—especially knowing that Jack had been left in charge.

But his concerns were interrupted as his sharp eyes caught sight of Jack, Yamato, and Black Maria sparring in the distance.

A mammoth squared off against a grotesque spider and the mythical Dog-Dog Fruit's Model: Okuchi-no-Makami form.

King's gaze lingered on Yamato. Kaido-sama went through so much trouble to get that fruit, and it's living up to expectations.

King chuckled, recalling how Kaido had deliberately withheld food until Yamato, starving, devoured the fruit by accident. He had pretended to be furious, but now, seeing Yamato's progress, King began to understand Kaido's feelings.

But Jack? His growth was unnaturally fast.

Though Jack's Mammoth Fruit granted immense strength and durability, it had no unique abilities like Maria's poison or Yamato's elemental powers. Yet Jack was holding his own against both of them—and easily at that.

His physical growth hasn't even peaked yet, so how has he improved so much in just a few months? Could this be why Kaido-sama values him so highly?

Watching Jack finish the fight and earn another two points of Agility, King walked over.

"King! You're back!" Jack greeted enthusiastically.

"Hmm." King nodded, giving Jack a firm pat on the shoulder—hard enough to bury half of Jack in the ground.

"Seriously? What's wrong with you?!" Jack sputtered, pulling himself out. "Coming back just to bully kids? Ever heard of child protection laws?!"
