Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Three Brothers
Staggering out of the room, Jack realized that the entire Oden Castle was engulfed in flames.
Everywhere he looked, fire raged, the intense heat searing his skin. Gritting his teeth, he summoned his strength and transformed into a towering five-meter-tall elephant. With a thunderous charge, he broke through the castle wall and barreled out.
"Boom!"
"Is that... Jack?"
"Water! Get some water, now!"
A man even taller than Jack in his elephant form shouted orders to the pirates around him.
The man was shrouded entirely in black—his body, face, and even his head were covered in dark attire. A mask with goggles obscured his features, and his black double-breasted coat added to his ominous aura. Flames licked at the back of his head, intensifying his mysterious presence.
A long sword hung at his side, its blade longer than the average man's height. The two skull emblems on his collar made him appear even more dangerous.
Seeing the flames still clinging to Jack, the man's usually calm tone wavered. He grabbed a bucket of water and splashed it over Jack without hesitation.
As the fire was doused, Jack reverted to his human form, the flames slowly dissipating.
Before the man could approach Jack, a sharp voice interrupted.
"Hey, Jack! You idiot! Why are you always pulling reckless stunts like this?"
A man with a shiny bald head and a long golden braid trailing down his back strode toward them. A pair of sunglasses perched on his nose, and a cigar jutted from his mouth. Upon noticing the masked man, he stopped in his tracks.
"Oh, it's you. The sadistic weirdo who loves interrogations," he sneered.
"Queen!" the masked man retorted sharply. "You're the reckless fool! If you'd caught those two samurai like you were supposed to, Jack wouldn't have gotten hurt!"
"King! Are you kidding me? Look at Jack's burns! He clearly got scorched more than anything else!"
"Oh, and you're saying you're more reliable than me?"
Although Queen and King were roughly the same height, Queen's round, bulky frame gave the impression he was the larger of the two. Their childish bickering made the nearby pirates exchange awkward glances.
Jack, opening his eyes groggily, looked at the arguing pair and muttered softly, "Um... King, Queen, I'm fine. Really, it's not that bad."
"Shut up!"
Both men turned to him, glaring.
"We wouldn't be having this argument if you weren't such a troublemaker!"
"Do you realize you're still just a kid?"
"Got it, Jack?"
Before Jack could respond, a shadow loomed over them. The three looked up simultaneously.
A massive dragon with razor-sharp claws and glinting scales descended from the sky, its imposing form blocking out the sunlight. Though Jack had seen dragons in memories of his previous life, the sight of this one still left him in awe.
This azure dragon was identical to the mythical beasts described in countless legends. For a moment, Jack froze, staring blankly.
"Boom!"
The dragon landed heavily, shifting into human form—a towering, muscular man with horns on his head and a long mustache resembling a dragon's whiskers. Even at Jack's nearly two-meter height, he barely reached the man's thigh.
"King, Queen, what happened to Jack?" Kaido's deep voice rumbled as he surveyed Jack's injuries. "Didn't I tell you to keep him on Onigashima?"
Kaido's immense presence was overwhelming. The veins bulging on his forearms and his chiselled physique were a testament to his strength.
Before King or Queen could answer, Kaido crouched down, scrutinizing Jack closely.
"Jack, did you sneak out on your own?" he asked quietly. "I know you want to help, but you're still too young."
"You're not strong enough yet to take on these samurai. Your focus should be on eating well and training hard."
"Queen, check his injuries later," Kaido ordered, clapping Jack on the shoulder before standing up.
Jack, indignant, blurted out, "Who says I can't help? I killed Oden's brat! And his wife, Toki, burned to death!"
"Hm?"
Kaido immediately crouched back down, an intrigued gleam in his eyes.
"Tell me everything," he said, his tone commanding.
Jack hesitated, feeling a twinge of embarrassment at how naturally he'd called Kaido "sama." Internally, he cursed himself but began recounting the events.
"I led a group to Oden Castle and ran into two samurai. I knew I couldn't beat them, so I charged into the castle, aiming to capture Oden's family."
"But those samurai were strong—way stronger than I expected. They defeated my men quickly and even ambushed me. I passed out."
"When I woke up, I saw them holding Oden's son, about to vanish. So I threw my weapon at them. The blade cut off the brat's head!"
"And Toki? She was crushed under a collapsing wall," Jack finished.
Kaido stood, cracking his neck thoughtfully. "Vanish, you said?"
"Yes! It was like they were fading into light. After I cut the kid's head off, they disappeared entirely—turned into glowing particles!"
Kaido closed his eyes, deep in thought, before letting out a booming laugh.
"Wororororo! Wororororo! It doesn't matter!"
"Oden is dead, and now his son is gone too! They're no longer a threat. Orochi is the Shogun of Wano, and Kuri is ours to control!"
"We'll focus on expanding our factories and growing stronger! Queen, oversee the factory operations. King, take Jack to sea and train him properly!"
"I'll stay in Wano for now and recruit more soldiers. Mark my words—when the time comes, the title of Pirate King will be mine!"
"Wororororo!"
Jack's brow furrowed at Kaido's laugh.
You look so intimidating, strong enough to crush boulders and fight off armies. And yet, your laugh... Seriously? It's like a eunuch's squeal. Don't you think that's a bit off?
Kaido turned to leave. "Take care of the bodies," he ordered.
"Yes, Kaido-sama!"
As he walked away, Jack's eyes lit up with a mischievous glint.
"Kaido-sama, can I call you Big Brother Kaido instead? 'Sama' feels so distant!"
"Jack!"
King and Queen's faces paled, a mixture of worry and exasperation flashing across them.
"Hm? Big Brother?" Kaido paused, smirking. "Hah! Do as you like, you cheeky brat!"
"Thanks, Big Brother Kaido!" Jack called after him with a grin.
As soon as Kaido was out of sight, King and Queen each delivered a swift punch to Jack's head.
"Don't do anything that stupid again, you idiot!"
Jack laughed, rubbing his head. "Got it, King-bro! Queen-bro!"
