Bound by coarse ropes that bit into his skin, Vin's eyes locked onto the holographic panel hovering before his eyes, visible only to him. 

Scanning the familiar lines of text that he had seen for almost a month now, he quickly located the countdown at the bottom. 

'Four minutes...' He thought to himself, closing the panel with a mental command. 

In four minutes, it would be decided whether he would escape this hellhole he currently found himself in, or be dragged into even deeper torment.

Silently glancing at the rowdy figures milling around the deck of this pirate ship, Vin's mind slowly drifted back to the events of the past month. 

He had been studying for one of his final exams at his university apartment when he suddenly felt an intense migraine. Assuming it was because of over-working himself, he decided to call it a night. 

Popping some sleeping medication, he hopped into bed and quickly fell asleep. 

When he awoke, he found himself on the deck of a ship, bound by rope and tied to one of the masts.

In his mind were confusing memories of another life, a pitiful one at that.

Before Vin could try and digest the mountain of information in his head, he was interrupted by the sound of people gathering.

"Ha, I called it! I told you this brat was still alive. Now pay up, Ripper! "

"Fuckn' shit!"

*swoosh*

Vin didn't even have time to glance in the direction of the voices before he felt an impact to the side of his head. The next second he was knocked unconscious.

What followed after that was the most brutal and inhumane experience Vin had ever gone through in his eighteen years of life. 

He had been captured by what he later identified as pirates and made to be there personal chore boy and slave. Whenever something was not to there liking or Vin messed up, he was subsequently beaten. 

According to the pirates, the only reason Vin hadn't been killed was because he had use in being sold as a slave. 

Yet, that didn't stop them from taking out their anger and frustration on him when they could. 

It would only cease when the captain intervened saying not to damage their merchandise 'too' much. 

What kept Vin from snapping and losing his sanity was perhaps only the system and the mission count down timer. 

He had discovered it only a few hours after awaking here. And after overhearing some conversation between the crew and finally understanding that he was in the one piece world, he had figured out how to pull it up.

It was a simple system and after reading the description he had gotten the basic gist of it.

[Description: You can obtain various rewards from all across reality from the mystery boxes you find, with a higher probability for rewards from your current world.]

[2. The more special the individual or place is, the higher the level of the mystery box and the higher the chance at receiving better rewards. ]

Sadly, he didn't have time to revel in the fact he had traveled to the One Piece world and had obtained a system. As he was quickly introduced to what would become his daily routine for the next period of time. 

Yet, Vin continued to hold on. 

He knew that once that timer hit zero, his chance at changing his current situation would come. 

Regardless, under a month of this insane treatment akin to torture, Vin gradually became numb. 

His thoughts began to shift from normal rational thoughts to ones that would have him labeled as a psychopath back on Earth. 

It didn't help that the original inhabitant of this bodies memories had finally been completely absorbed causing Vin to experience the negative and brutal emotions he had stored.

Maybe by coincidence or fate, the original bodies holder was also named Vin.

He had died from hunger while fleeing his home town by boat after his family was murdered for standing against one of the princes of the kingdom.

While still unconscious, his drifting body had been found by pirates and brought aboard their ship. Seeing he was young and decent-looking despite his ragged state, they decided he'd fetch a good price as a slave.

Somehow, the Vin from Earth had taken over his body during this time.

Returning from his thoughts, Vin pulled up the panel and glanced at the countdown once again.

'Finally,' he thought, less than a minute left.

The countdown ticked away, each second feeling heavier than the last.

[Time Remaining: 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1]

Finally, the countdown hit zero, and a sharp chime echoed in his mind.

Without hesitating, Vin selected yes using his thoughts.
