Chapter 178: Mining the Red Line
-----
Uchiha Inahoe knelt down excitedly before Uchiha Kitaro, bowing deeply. "All of this is thanks to you, President."
Uchiha Kitaro helped Inahoe up. "What are you doing?"
"If not for you, I wouldn't have a family. Your immense kindness can never be repaid. I am willing to give my life for you without hesitation," Inahoe said, his voice filled with emotion.
Back when the Uchiha clan was on the brink of rebellion, Inahoe had prepared himself to sacrifice everything for the clan. Knowing how harsh a ninja's life was, he had never planned to bring children into the world. But fate surprised him when Uchiha Kitaro helped him carve out a new path. Thanks to Kitaro, he now had a family—an extraordinary blessing that left him willing to die for Kitaro without a second thought.
"You're being too dramatic," Kitaro replied. "We're family—brothers. This is what I should do. Enough standing around here; go check on Kikyō."
Only then did Inahoe remember that in his excitement, he'd completely forgotten about Kikyō. He hurried into the room.
"Lady Boa Hancock…" Kikyō said as she spotted the Empress entering. She tried to rise and bow.
Hancock smiled gently and stopped her. "Don't get up. You need to rest now."
Turning to Kitaro, Inahoe said, "President, please hold the child first."
Kitaro didn't hesitate. He cradled the newborn, fully understanding Inahoe's intention. In the ninja world, there was a saying: the first person to hold a child would influence their temperament.
The baby appeared healthy, thanks to the extraordinary constitution of both Kikyō and Inahoe.
"Lord Kitaro, I want you to be the one naming the child," Inahoe requested.
"If that's what you want." Kitaro thought for a moment. "Since this is the first child of our Uchiha clan in this world, let's call them Shinsei—Uchiha Shinsei. It represents a new life for our clan in this world."
Kitaro's words resonated with everyone present. He then handed the baby to Hancock, whose face lit up with a warm smile as she held the infant.
While she wasn't averse to children, she did feel a twinge of regret that she didn't yet have one of her own. However, thanks to Kitaro's reassurance, she was content. Soon enough, she would bear his child as well.
As time passed, more children were born to the Uchiha clan. Every two or three days, a new life would arrive; on some days, multiple births would occur. The clan was lively and bustling like never before, and Kitaro felt deeply fulfilled.
The clan had raised him, so he was determined to repay them. A strong clan meant strength for him as well—that was the essence of family.
In the anime, the Uchiha clan had been annihilated by Itachi and Obito, partly because of a lack of unity.
Another major reason was the cursed Will of Fire. Shisui had been brainwashed by it, and Itachi, in turn, followed suit.
But to Kitaro, nothing was more important than family.
---
At the Marine Headquarters
Uchiha Kitaro received yet another summons from Fleet Admiral Sengoku. Using the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, he seamlessly swapped places with one of his clones, leaving no trace of the transition. This technique was so flawless that even those nearby wouldn't notice the switch.
He used it many times before.
Such mastery required incredible chakra reserves, something only Kitaro could afford. Even the Fourth Hokage couldn't perform this technique at such a level.
"Sengoku-san, what's the matter this time?" Kitaro asked.
"Take a look at this," Sengoku replied, tossing a stack of newspapers onto the table.
Kitaro picked them up and scanned the headlines. For the past while, he'd been staying on Amazon Lily with Hancock, focused on expanding his family. He hadn't kept up with the news.
But after reading a few lines, he couldn't help but blurt out, "What the hell?!"
Even someone as composed as Kitaro found himself momentarily speechless.
He'd always wondered how Golden Lion Shiki could confidently locate an island spanning 100,000 square kilometers. It turned out the madman had started mining the Red Line!
In this world, where was the largest landmass? Even a child could answer that: the Red Line.
The Red Line spanned the entire globe, dividing it into two halves. Its sheer scale rivaled the entire landmass of Earth from Kitaro's previous life.
Living primarily on islands scattered across the seas, Kitaro hadn't paid much attention to the Red Line.
Even in the original anime, the Red Line wasn't depicted in much detail. All that was known was that the headquarters of the World Government was situated atop it.
Clearly, Kitaro had underestimated the possibilities.
But mining the Red Line? Fine. Yet why dig in one spot relentlessly?
The Red Line was vast—endless, even. If Shiki had mined different locations, no one would've noticed. But no, the lunatic dug straight through, connecting the East and North Blue.
Even the mythical Foolish Old Man Moving Mountains wasn't as dedicated as Shiki.
Looking at the massive chasm cutting through the Red Line, Kitaro's lips twitched uncontrollably.
"This happened recently," Sengoku explained. "A sailor witnessed the break in the Red Line. The East Blue and North Blue are now completely connected. As far as we know, the only one capable of such a feat is Golden Lion Shiki. And Shiki, as we both know, was taken by your brother, Uchiha Kitaro."
Sengoku's sharp gaze fixed on Kitaro. "This wasn't just random destruction. There has to be a reason. Do you have anything to say, Akira?"
"I… I'm not sure," Kitaro paused then stammered. "Kitaro captured Shiki a week ago, but I've been stationed here at Marineford for six months. I honestly have no idea what he's planning."
Sengoku frowned, deep in thought. "If that's the case, could he be trying to connect the East Blue and North Blue to expand the Uchiha Security Company's operations?"
Kitaro marveled at Sengoku's imaginative conclusions. If not for the fact that he'd given the order himself, even he wouldn't have guessed Shiki's purpose.
"Alright, you're dismissed," Sengoku finally said. "But take it easy with Gion. I understand you're young and full of energy, but your late-night… activities have been disturbing the nearby residents. There have been several complaints already."
Hearing this, Kitaro's face turned red for the first time in ages. After hurriedly bidding farewell, he left the office, vanishing as quickly as he could.
