Chapter 208: Perfect Work In Action
The three sworn brothers, true men of action, set their sights on Wano. After acquiring weapons and medical supplies for the Revolutionary Army, they arranged for their subordinates to escort the goods back. Sabo then called headquarters, requesting additional support to safeguard the shipments.
With these tasks complete, Sabo, Ace, and the members of the Spade Pirates joined Luffy and his crew aboard the Thousand Sunny. But why switch ships? Simply put, there are only two routes into Wano's waters: one is extremely dangerous, and the other is considered safe only by Wano's residents.
To the Straw Hat Pirates, though, both options were deadly. The first involves navigating a whirlpool and scaling a waterfall, requiring tremendous skill. The second, known only to a few, is a secret entrance controlled by the Cross Guild, who have fortified it with an entire island and powerful defences. Attempting to enter this way would mean braving the Guild's relentless firepower. Even with the brothers' strength, the Cross Guild's advanced laser weaponry would put their crews and ships at serious risk.
Given these choices, they opted for the waterfall route. Ace and the Spade Pirates boarded the Thousand Sunny to take advantage of its unique capabilities. Using Sunny's Coup de Burst, they propelled the ship up the waterfall and into Wano's waters.
Once their decision was made, the Straw Hats set sail from Dressrosa that very day. Under Kin'emon's guidance, they skillfully navigated the whirlpools surrounding Wano and, with a powerful jet of air from the Coup de Burst, soared over the waterfall, landing successfully in Wano.
Almost immediately upon their arrival, Boa Hancock, stationed on guard duty in Wano, sensed their presence with her Observation Haki. Alongside her was her sister Sandersonia, who hadn't yet returned to Amazon Lily. Hancock squinted at the flags on the Thousand Sunny, feeling they looked familiar but couldn't quite place them.
Though Hancock's arrogance made her dismissive of most others outside her sisters and her Master, Kahn, she sensed that the ship's flag was tied to someone noteworthy. If she thought back carefully, she'd realize it was the Straw Hat Pirates—a crew that her Master and Robin had discussed recently—and the famous three sworn brothers who had captured the world's attention.
However, as the Cross Guild's head maid and someone with little interest in reading newspapers, Hancock hadn't followed the recent events. Apart from a recent trip to Fish-Man Island to retrieve Shirahoshi, she'd rarely left Wano, making her unfamiliarity with the Straw Hat Pirates and the three brothers understandable.
After a long stretch of quiet in Wano's waters, Hancock bored with her guard duty, perked up with interest upon detecting intruders. Eager for some excitement, she decided to "welcome" them with a show of force.
The Thousand Sunny had just landed, and before Luffy, Ace, Sabo, the Spade Pirates, or Momonosuke could even disembark, a low rumbling echoed overhead. Suddenly, bright purple lightning crackled in the clear, cloudless sky, forming a massive glowing sphere of energy above the ship.
"What... is that?!"
"Why is there thunder on a sunny day? Is this some feature of the island?"
"First time seeing purple lightning like that!"
"Are you all blind? This is obviously someone's ability!"
The Straw Hat and Spade Pirates looked up, feeling a mix of awe and anxiety. Only Ace and Sabo had serious expressions, realizing they'd been detected the moment they arrived.
"Impressive Observation, Haki," Sabo muttered as he eyed the incoming purple energy. "This attack is probably from one of the Cross Guild's top fighters."
Ace, with his usual calm confidence, adjusted his hat and sprang into the air just as the purple energy beam morphed into a focused column of destructive force, aiming directly at Sunny. The beam threatened to annihilate the ship, even though it was crafted from the rare Adam Wood.
Just as the beam plummeted downward, it halted suddenly, unable to descend further. A layer of invisible energy—strong as the Barrier-Barrier Fruit's protection—had formed beneath it, shielding the Thousand Sunny. Not only was it a perfect defence, but dark red lightning also crackled around it, indicating a powerful Conqueror's Haki infusion.
Hancock, watching from her post, narrowed her eyes, impressed. "Conqueror's infusion, just like mine and the Master's?" she murmured. "So young, yet already wielding such incredible power. When did such remarkable warriors emerge?"
Suddenly, Hancock recognized the Straw Hat Pirate flag, connecting it to memories of the newspaper she'd seen in Kahn's possession. With a dawning realization, she understood that these intruders were Luffy and his sworn brothers. Remembering Doflamingo's recent warning and the flag, everything clicked: the Straw Hat Pirates, the famous sworn brothers, and the presence of the Red Scabbards—the Nine Heroes of the Kozuki Clan who'd travelled through time with the Paramecia Time-Time Fruit.
Fully aware of who had entered Wano, Hancock addressed her subordinate, "Perfect Twelve," a stoic woman infused with the power of the artificial Zoan Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon, and augmented with Paramecia Flesh-Flesh Fruit capabilities.
"Perfect Twelve, go entertain our guests," Hancock ordered, her gaze unwavering. "I'll report this to Master Kahn."
The moment she finished speaking, Perfect Twelve transformed into a streak of purple lightning, setting off to confront the intruders. The ultimate weapon of the Cross Guild was officially on the move.
