"Stop!!!"
A voice echoed from the distance.
Moments later, a shadow appeared, stepping in front of Roja and halting the current Empress of Amazon Lily, Boa Gloriosa.
"Grandmother Gloriosa?"
The Empress looked at her in disbelief.
Gloriosa, the former Empress of Amazon Lily, may have abdicated her position, but her influence far surpassed that of the current ruler. Among all the Empresses of the island, only the future Boa Hancock could hope to surpass her in fame and power.
Gloriosa fixed her gaze on the Empress and spoke sternly. "You cannot act against this man!"
Roja, cloaked and silent, observed the unfolding scene with narrowed eyes, remaining calm as he watched everything play out.
The Empress protested, her voice rising. "But Grandmother Gloriosa, this man... he's a man! No man is permitted to set foot on Amazon Lily under any circumstances!"
Gloriosa stood firm. "This man saved the people of Amazon Lily!"
"But even so," the Empress argued, "our ancestral law is clear: no man leaves this island alive!"
Hearing her resolve, Hancock grew anxious and tugged lightly on Roja's sleeve, looking up at him with worry.
At that moment, Gloriosa raised her voice again. "And what if I told you that this man has slain the legendary Deep-Sea Serpent of Amazon Lily? According to the ancestral teachings, anyone who kills that creature must be treated with honor—as a guest of the island, regardless of their gender!"
Her words caused a wave of shock to ripple through the warriors gathered. Even the Empress froze in disbelief.
"No way… That monstrous sea king… slain by this man?"
"The Deep-Sea Serpent is colossal thousands of meters long! Impossible!"
"But if it's true… Our ancestor's grudge has finally been avenged!"
The warriors whispered among themselves, their initial shock giving way to elation.
The Empress, still stunned, turned to Gloriosa for confirmation. "Is it true? Did this man really kill the Deep-Sea Serpent?"
The legendary Deep-Sea Serpent had long been the bane of Amazon Lily's rulers. For generations, it terrorized the island's seas, making every voyage a perilous endeavor. Many Empresses had lost their lives to the creature, and as the serpent grew larger and stronger with time, no one dared to challenge it.
Because of this, the Sixth Empress of Amazon Lily decreed that anyone who killed the serpent must be treated as an honored guest, regardless of their identity. This law became an unshakable tradition, passed down through the ages.
Hearing Gloriosa's confirmation, Roja turned to Hancock and asked, "Hancock, did you know the Deep-Sea Serpent was such a legendary threat to your island? And were you also unaware of this ancestral decree?"
Hancock nodded shyly, her cheeks-tinged red. Had she known, she would have spoken up earlier to avoid the misunderstanding.
Finally, the current Empress stepped forward, bowing slightly to Roja. "I apologize for my rudeness earlier. I humbly invite you to a banquet at the palace in your honor."
Roja shook his head calmly. "As I said before, I only escorted them back to this island. If you wish to show gratitude, treat them well."
Gloriosa stepped in, nodding in agreement. "Rest assured, we will dedicate all the resources of Amazon Lily to nurturing them."
Amazon Lily revered strength above all else, and Gloriosa had already witnessed Hancock's potential. In her heart, she believed Hancock could become the greatest Empress in the island's history—perhaps even greater than herself.
Of course, what intrigued Gloriosa most was the mysterious connection between Roja and Hancock. The name "Roja" had become a growing legend across the seas, and her investigation into his origins yielded nothing but mystery. He seemed to have appeared out of nowhere, shrouded in secrets.
Satisfied with Gloriosa's assurance, Roja turned to Hancock. "Hancock, even if I'm not around, you must work hard to develop your strength. Understand?"
Hancock nodded vigorously. Then, with unexpected determination, she declared, "Roja, when I become the Empress, I'll make you, my king!"
Her words took Roja by surprise, and he burst into laughter—a rare, genuine laugh. "You're already the queen here."
Realizing the implication of his words, Roja paused, then flicked Hancock gently on the forehead. "You're really something, aren't you?"
With a soft smile, he added, "Let's meet again on the sea someday."
Turning, Roja began walking toward the warship anchored nearby. The night breeze rustled the leaves, and the waves shimmered under the moonlight.
As she watched him leave, Hancock couldn't hold back her tears. "Roja! Will I be able to find you again?"
Roja stopped and glanced back, his voice steady but warm. "Of course."
Though his words were simple, they resonated deeply with Hancock.
"Wait for me, Roja! I'll come find you someday!" she called out, her voice breaking with emotion.
Roja didn't reply. He waved his hand before activating his abilities, disappearing onto the warship. He knew if he lingered, Hancock would find it even harder to let go.
Hancock stood rooted, watching the warship disappear into the distance. Determined, she vowed to master her abilities, aiming to achieve the fruit awakening that Roja had once mentioned.
The next day, Roja had left the Calm Belt and returned to the open sea.
In his quarters aboard the warship, he retrieved an unusual Devil Fruit from his storage space: the Fantasy Fruit. This fruit granted the power to create phantoms—manifestations with physical strength that could be used for combat, deception, and strategy. Its versatility made it invaluable in any situation.
Without hesitation, Roja decided—it was time to eat the fruit.
