Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Adventure, Setting Off Again
The news headlines kept changing, announcing new events across the world: the completion of the Sea Train line in Water 7, the tragic death of Queen Otohime on Fish-Man Island, and Doflamingo's rise as the new king of Dressrosa, leading the nation to prosperity.
Nami used her new funds to renovate Bellemere's house, turning it into a cozy two-story villa. Together, they baked a large cake to celebrate Uta's birthday.
As the calendar turned to the year 1513, Uta recorded stories from the island with her visual Den Den Mushi, saying, "Everyone's faces are filled with smiles." She turned off the snail camera and wiped her brow—today's sun was particularly fierce, and even a short walk had soaked her clothes in sweat.
Eagerly, she ran to the shore, where a young man stood barefoot, straw hat on his head, shirtless, and standing on the surface of the ocean. The rolling waves propelled Luffy forward as he spread his arms for balance.
He started running on the water, taking deep and shallow steps. He looked like he was having a lot of fun, even if there was no particular goal.
Nearby, a giant Sea Cow floated on its back, basking in the sun, while Nami lay on an inflatable cushion in Moo Moo's shadow, occasionally writing and reading.
"I've mapped all the weather patterns on this island. I think it's time to explore others," Nami paused to say.
Nojiko was on board, moving in and out, placing cold drinks on the table.
"You want to visit other islands, Nami? But we can't exactly sail off," Luffy replied. He thought briefly about requesting a Navy escort, though he didn't have a particular destination in mind. Seeing Princess Vivi as a child sounded interesting, but she was in the Grand Line—too far, too dangerous.
"No, we actually can. I calculated it. If we let Moo Moo pull the ship, we wouldn't need much else. We wouldn't even rely on the wind," Nami explained.
Regular ships needed wind to move, but with Moo Moo, they'd have "biological propulsion."
"Luffy," Uta called, stepping into the shallow water after removing her shoes. The shallows didn't drain her strength, so she could approach without worry. Her pale ankles gleamed in the sun, catching Luffy's attention.
"Be careful, Uta. There are lots of sharp rocks around there," Luffy called out.
"I know! How are you walking on the water?" she asked playfully, splashing some water in his direction.
"You just keep your weight really light," Luffy said, shielding himself from the spray.
"So, does that mean you can change your weight at will?" she asked, her eyes widening with curiosity.
"In theory, yeah…"
"That's amazing, Luffy! You'll never have to worry about weigh-ins!" Uta admired.
"Um… so why does your weight matter, Uta?" Luffy asked, puzzled as he looked at the perfectly healthy girl.
"You wouldn't understand, Luffy. As I grow, I keep getting heavier. What if Shanks can't lift me anymore?" She glanced at his arms, kicking another splash of water.
"Impossible. No matter how much you grow, Shanks will always be able to lift you," Luffy reassured her.
This was a world of superhuman strength, where training led to astonishing power. Even now, with just his muscles, Luffy could lift up to four tons, without any increase in his own body weight—a detail he preferred not to think too deeply about, lest he be cursed by overthinking.
Uta crossed her arms, unintentionally lifting her sundress and revealing a slender waist and faint curves.
"Hm. By the way, Uta, should we try a sea adventure riding Moo Moo?" Luffy asked. They'd been on this island long enough, and he figured Uta must also be ready for a change of scenery.
"Is that really okay?" Uta glanced at the enormous Sea Cow in the distance, its size comparable to a small mountain. When Luffy tamed it as a steed, it had shocked the entire village.
"Of course! Right, Nami?" Luffy asked.
"Are we really setting sail? Absolutely, Captain!" Nami gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up before eyeing the sunbathing Moo Moo. "We're all set, aren't we, Moo Moo?"
"Moo?" Moo Moo twitched its ears, pretending not to hear and sinking slightly into the water.
"It said yes, I heard it," Luffy declared with a grin and a thumbs-up.
That evening, the kids gathered around the dinner table and looked at Bellemere, saying, "Bellemere, we're planning to go on an adventure!"
"Oh? Just be careful…" Bellemere replied, lighting a cigarette as she took in the excited eyes surrounding her.
The next morning, Luffy dashed to the shore, carrying a long chain.
"Moo Moo, come here! I've got something nice for you!" he called.
The massive head of the Sea Cow surfaced, splashing waves everywhere. Seeing the chain in Luffy's hands, it immediately tried to duck back underwater.
But Luffy's gaze was unyielding.
Invisible waves of Conqueror's Haki emanated from him, pressing down on Moo Moo. The Sea Cow, wide-eyed and nearly tearful, reluctantly floated back up.
"Alright, it's up to you to pull the ship!"
Luffy tossed the chain over to Moo Moo and secured the other end to various points on the boat.
"Bellemere, we're going on a trip!" Nami shouted, slinging her travel bag over her shoulder and heading for the shore.
"Stay safe…" Bellemere said, holding her broom as she watched her daughters brimming with excitement.
"Heading out, Bellemere!" Uta said as she slipped on her sandals.
"Be careful on the way, and call if anything happens…"
"See you, Bellemere!" Nojiko called out, following the others down the stairs.
"You're the big sister here, so keep an eye on your sisters. And call often…"
"I got it, Bellemere!"
Standing in the living room, Bellemere watched the kids running toward the sea with a wistful smile.
"An adventure, huh? Guess they got tired of this poor little island."
"We don't need to worry about wind speed or direction. Let's just try sailing nearby to start, and we can make sure it's safe that way," Nami said, flipping through a Marine chart. She glanced over the East Blue's marked islands and pointed in a random direction.
Moo Moo grabbed the dangling chains with its flippers, pulling the ship through the water. The massive Sea Cow dwarfed the boat, making it look like a toy.
Gen stepped up to Bellemere's door, giving it a knock. "Bellemere, the kids set sail. Are you sure they're good to go?"
"They'll be fine. Remember, Luffy showed up with just two of them."
"A sister taking care of her siblings—just like in a fairy tale."
"Still…" Gen gazed into the distance.
"It's going to feel a bit lonely without them around."
"So, want to share a drink tonight?" Bellemere suggested, taking out a bottle of red wine and giving it a little shake.
"Uh…" Gen swallowed, hesitating. "I don't know if that's…"
Later that evening, Bellemere's door was knocked again.
A group of girls lined up, grinning as Bellemere opened the door.
"Bellemere, our first adventure is done—we're back!" Nami announced cheerfully.
"Huh…"
"Gen, what are you doing here?" Nojiko peeked inside.
"You even opened the wine!" Uta remarked.
"Were you two celebrating that we left?" Nami asked, feigning disbelief.
"Brats! That little outing was no adventure, and here I was get
ting all sentimental. Now get out of here and go back to your rooms!" Bellemere's face flushed as she tried to compose herself.
