Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Becoming Neighbors with Saitama
"You actually managed to take down this crab monster all by yourself, quite impressive." Having mostly confirmed the young man's identity, Haruto kicked the crab man on the ground and praised, "I was thinking of helping out."
"...It was just luck." The young man glanced at the dead crab man, then looked up at Haruto and said, "Anyway, thank you for your help. People like you are rare in today's society."
"I didn't really help. You handled it all by yourself." Haruto shook his head and extended his hand. "I'm Takizawa Haruto. Though you can just call me Haruto. People like you are rare too."
"Saitama, nice to meet you." The young man shook Haruto's hand.
After a brief exchange, the two became somewhat familiar with each other. Haruto learned that Saitama was currently a struggling salesman.
"So... what are your plans now?" Haruto asked.
"I want to become a hero." Saitama said solemnly.
"That's a great idea. Do you have any plans?"
"Training my body."
"Well, good luck. I believe you'll succeed." Haruto smiled and patted Saitama on the shoulder, his tone serious, without a hint of disdain or ridicule at the seemingly childish declaration.
Jokes aside, the person before him would become the strongest hero in the near future, the legendary bald-headed hero for fun, One Punch Man.
"Alright then, I'm going to start training. Goodbye."
Just as Haruto was about to say goodbye, he suddenly remembered his current situation and said, "Wait, Saitama."
"Is there something else?"
"Is there a hotel nearby? Uh... one that doesn't require ID registration."
Saitama looked at the embarrassed Haruto, seemingly realizing something. He did not say anything, just thought for a moment, and said, "Come with me. The apartment building I live in doesn't require registration, but the environment is not great either."
"It doesn't matter, as long as I don't have to sleep under a bridge," Haruto waved his hand with a smile. As long as he solved the housing problem, the remaining issues would just be a matter of time. Even without the Judge System, he had full confidence in his ability, or rather potential to survive here.
So, the two set off together, leaving the crab man's remains in the community park to be dealt with by the police later.
"By the way, I encountered a guy who called himself the Cockroach King earlier. Are there many such monsters around here?"
"Not too many, but not too few either. They pop up from time to time for some reason." Saitama looked at Haruto curiously.
"I'm from the countryside. I've never seen anything like this."
Hearing this, Saitama understood and nodded.
"After these monsters appear, the police and the military usually deal with them."
"Aren't there people like you who step up voluntarily?"
"Well... there should be." Saitama scratched his head, seeming unsure.
"I think there must be, they are probably just not widely known yet," Haruto said confidently.
In just three years, the Hero Association gathered a group of capable heroes, and these heroes did not just appear out of nowhere. Surely, before the Hero Association was established, many heroes with a sense of justice were quietly fighting against the monsters in different places.
Talking and walking, the two soon arrived at the apartment building where Saitama lived. And to no one's surprise, the environment was not just bad, it was the very definition of filthy and chaotic.
"Yes, this is the place. It is quite far from the police station, and it's not very safe around here at night. The only advantage is the cheap rent."
Saitama laughed. As an unemployed person, he couldn't afford much, and given his personality, he wasn't picky. As long as he had a place to stay, it was fine.
Since Saitama did not seem to mind, Haruto, an undocumented person, certainly wouldn't care either. Having a place to stay was good enough.
With Saitama's introduction, the landlord agreed. Money exchanged, keys handed over, and Takizawa Haruto moved in with a big smile. His room was right next to Saitama's, and from then on, they became neighbors...
