Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Successfully Captured
"Even such a remote frontline base has your traces, Serpent. You really have a lot of connections."
In the brightly lit but very quiet office, Cocolia crossed her legs, arms hugged in front of her chest, stretching her green military uniform tight. She smiled at Kella, but her charming purple eyes flashed with an unpleasant cold light.
Kella stood straight, embodying a cold and experienced military style. Her delicate yet unheroic face remained indifferent as she replied:
"It's just an ordinary hidden chess piece. Without the keen senses of watching the world, how can a Serpent lurk in the shadows? If I've displeased you, Ms. Cocolia, I'll disappear from your sight after this."
"Oh, there's no need to disappear. I'm not that stingy. Tell me, what message do you want to convey by revealing your perfect hidden chess piece?"
Cocolia leaned back, feigning casual interest.
Disappear? What a joke!
It is much safer to keep a spy under your nose than to let them vanish. Cocolia hoped this person in front of her would remain in the army. But by then, it wouldn't be certain who was watching whom.
Kella slowly reached into the collar of her military uniform, extracting a diamond-shaped ruby the size of a coin from his chest. She placed it on the table without a word.
Cocolia glanced at it and asked:
"What is this?"
"I don't know."
"Huh?"
"Mr. Gray Serpent will discuss the details with you in person. I am only responsible for delivering this item to you. I don't know what it is or how to use it, and I don't need to know."
Kella responded expressionlessly.
When the Angels use a clone as a puppet, they can cancel the body's emotional responses, perfectly masking all emotions. Cocolia couldn't discern any information from Kella's face, so she merely shook her head and said:
"You really are thorough mystics. However, since you're willing to expose the hidden chess to pass it on, it must be something extraordinary, right? Well, I will accept it. Is there anything else?"
Cocolia picked up the gem casually, pinching it between her thumb and index finger, admiring the crystal-clear bright red luster under the light.
Her lack of vigilance wasn't her fault.
Mainly due to their cooperation over the years, Cocolia had long determined that the World Serpent and Schicksal were equally difficult to deal with and believed they could plant hidden pieces in Anti-entropy. From the perspective of their extremely mystical purposes, the words "Serpent" and "Gray Serpent" confirmed Kella's origin.
Cocolia saw no suspicious signs, especially in her own territory, so there was no need for alarm.
Then, the gem suddenly melted and disappeared between her fingers.
"Although you can be regarded as a mother, based on the Nagazora City incident that took away my parents, Cocolia, you deserve to die."
Kella's stiff expression eased, and she leaned forward, finally looking at Cocolia's trance expression across the table and spoke without mercy.
…
"Mom..."
"Mother Cocolia..."
"Mom, what are you doing? Come here!"
In front, in the big house with blooming flowers, Bronya, Seele, Sin, Rosalia, Lilia—all the children were there, waving at Cocolia with laughter.
'Is Bronya back too...but why is Seele here as well? Have I rescued her? What was I doing just now?'
Cocolia was momentarily stunned, feeling a stinging pain on her forehead, and the light in front of her eyes seemed too dazzling. But soon, she ignored these anomalies and walked towards the children with a gentle smile.
"My lovely children, Mom is back, and this time I brought your favorite cake!"
Cocolia said, hearing their expected happy cheers. Her mood improved, and the smile on her face brightened.
The moment she stepped inside, Cocolia's expression froze. She looked up to see a black monster falling from the sky, opening its bloody mouth with sharp teeth.
"Crack!"
A sound of biting and swallowing came from the darkness.
After that, Cocolia knew nothing more.
...
"You're right, Cocolia, you deserve to die."
Cocolia flipped through the documents on the table, signing and approving them, while casually responding to Kella's words.
"There was no decent resistance or struggle."
"It seems that our initial judgment was correct. Cocolia is not special, at least she has no ability to resist us."
"Now it seems that deliberately isolating the young lady from this matter was overly cautious."
"But there is nothing wrong with being cautious. Our identities are too dangerous, and Otto's malice is even more dangerous. We can only be careful again and again."
"However, I finally got an identity that is slightly qualified to pry the world... I have to thank Cocolia for her management over the years, and now, all of this belongs to me!"
After handling the last few documents, Cocolia (Angel) looked up and glanced at Kella (Angel), showing a meaningful smile.
Then, Cocolia leaned back suddenly, her half-exposed chest rippling with extremely eye-catching waves.
Cocolia sighed, staring at the ceiling with a gloomy look.
"So, have I taken revenge?"
"You could say I did, but I can't really laugh..."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
The two spoke one after the other, not conversing but simply voicing their thoughts.
The office fell into silence.
Many people were guilty of the disaster in Nagazora City, including Raiden Mei, who turned into a Herrscher, Bronya, who aided the evil, and even Raiden Ryoma, who originally put the Conquest Gem into Mei Raiden's body...
According to Angel's experience in this world, it wouldn't be too much to kill all involved. But from Angel's perspective in the other world, Cocolia, who caused the artificial eruption, was the absolute mastermind and culprit, and the others were just used or didn't have hold in the situation.
It was contradictory, it was so uncomfortable. It was a mess.
Angel suddenly felt she had a split personality.
After all, two completely different individuals were mixed into her now. She had to face the mental problems she had deliberately ignored before.
In a moment of irritation, confusion and annoyance Kella and Cocolia looked at each other...
And closed the gap between them in a flash.
