OREGAIRU : Hikigaya Hachiman's Exorcism Story

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Hikigaya's Self-Service Buffet

Although Hikigaya Hachiman wanted to take out all the evil spirits scattered around the school to gather a lot of spirit coins, he didn't forget that Yotsuya Miko had been captured by the advanced evil spirit.

As the nearby lower-level evil spirit let out a painful "Awoooo," the system notified him that he had earned another 50 spirit coins.

"I can't delay any longer!"

Checking the time, it had been ten minutes since Yotsuya Miko was captured. No one knew what could happen in these ten minutes. Hikigaya Hachiman had to go save her immediately!

He opened the holographic screen and checked his panel again.

Name: Hikigaya Hachiman

Age: 17

Occupation: Junior Exorcist

Spirit Power: 90/100

Ability: Spirit Flow Technique (Beginner)

Weapon: Beginner Demon Slayer Sword

Spirit Coins: 575

He had enough spirit coins!

After taking out three waves of lower-level evil spirits scattered throughout the school, Hikigaya had finally gathered enough to exchange for a higher-level Demon Slayer Sword.

With a familiar motion, Hikigaya Hachiman opened the spirit coin shop, and the items immediately appeared in front of him.

Due to being a Junior Exorcist, after redeeming the Spirit Flow Technique, the only item left in the shop was a mid-level demon-slaying sword priced at 500 spirit coins.

To obtain more weapons and abilities, Hikigaya Hachiman would need to defeat stronger evil spirits to unlock them.

Without hesitation, Hikigaya Hachiman confirmed his purchase of the mid-level demon-slaying sword.

However, the scene he imagined, where a new weapon would suddenly appear before him, didn't happen.

Just as he was feeling confused, the Beginner Demon Slayer Sword in his hand suddenly glowed with a faint blue light.

As the glow faded, a brand-new demon-slaying sword appeared in Hikigaya Hachiman's hand.

"Wait, it's not a replacement, it's an upgrade?"

Looking at the demon-slaying sword in his hand, which had changed shape, Hikigaya Hachiman thought for a moment.

Originally, he had assumed the weapon was just basic gear given by the system to get through the early stages. Now it seemed the weapon had a much more complex origin than he had expected.

"Though, now isn't the time to think about that..."

With the demon-slaying sword upgraded, Hikigaya Hachiman felt more confident about dealing with high-level evil spirits.

He didn't waste any time and immediately ran toward the gym, following the map provided by the system. The brightest red dot was there!

Arriving at the gym entrance, there were no evil spirits around.

Hikigaya Hachiman didn't hesitate for a second and charged into the dark entrance.

The moment he stepped inside the gym, the door behind him suddenly slammed shut.

Immediately, Hikigaya found himself surrounded by darkness.

"Buzz..."

The demon-slaying sword in Hikigaya Hachiman's hand suddenly emitted a buzzing sound, and the blade lit up with its familiar faint blue glow.

It even has a built-in light function?

Looking at the change in his sword, Hikigaya Hachiman paused for a moment, but then shrugged it off.

Having a light source was a good thing, who cared who designed the added lighting feature?

Hikigaya Hachiman noticed the large red dot flickering around him but didn't move to attack, guessing that the evil spirit was probably confused by the sudden light.

Suddenly, the darkness receded like the tide, and the blood-red moonlight shone through the windows.

"Did it leave?"

Seeing the large red dot disappear, Hikigaya Hachiman was a bit taken aback.

This evil spirit was way too cautious, wasn't it?

It hadn't even started fighting yet! And just because a light source appeared, it ran off?!

"Ugh!"

Suddenly, a voice from above made him look up.

He saw Yotsuya Miko tangled in what looked like spider threads, forming a ball, and hanging from the ceiling of the gym.

"Wait a moment, I'll come save you!"

Hikigaya Hachiman checked the map again to confirm that the evil spirit had indeed left. Then, using his spiritual energy, he jumped onto the beam at the top of the gym and walked towards Yotsuya Miko.

Seeing Hikigaya Hachiman approach, Yotsuya Miko began struggling even more desperately.

"Don't move around, you might fall..."

Hikigaya Hachiman frowned at Yotsuya Miko's reaction.

What was she trying to do? Didn't she realize how dangerous this was?

But Yotsuya Miko wasn't listening to him at all. The closer he got, the harder she struggled.

Finally, Hikigaya Hachiman reached Yotsuya Miko and tore the spider thread off her mouth.

"Run!"

The moment she could speak, Yotsuya Miko urged Hikigaya Hachiman to run quickly.

"I'm already trapped. Do you think it will let me go?"

Hikigaya Hachiman calmly used his sword to cut through the bindings on Yotsuya Miko and freed her.

"You... you knew this was a trap, and you still jumped in?"

Yotsuya Miko was shocked by his words.

How could someone as foolish as Hikigaya exist in the world? He knew it was a trap, so why would he still jump in?

"Of course, I knew."

Hikigaya Hachiman shrugged.

If he hadn't figured out such an obvious trap, he'd be insulting his own intelligence.

"Then why did you come?"

Yotsuya Miko's voice rose without her meaning to.

Hikigaya Hachiman answered as if it was the most obvious thing: "The last person you met before entering this space was me, right? If something happens to you, the police would definitely come looking for me first. I don't want to be mistaken for a suspect..."

Of course, this was just what Hikigaya Hachiman said out loud.

He knew that the evil spirit's target was Yotsuya Miko. The moment it caught her, it didn't devour her right away so that it could lure Hikigaya into its trap.

If Hikigaya Hachiman didn't fall for the trap, Yotsuya Miko would just be left to be eaten.

Naturally, Hikigaya Hachiman couldn't just let Yotsuya Miko die, so he entered the trap willingly.

"You... you really are an idiot..."

After hearing his words, Yotsuya Miko saw through the concern hidden behind his tsundere words, and her heart warmed a little.

Except for Komachi, this was the first time anyone had made her feel so important.

"Fine, say whatever you want."

Being called an idiot by someone didn't bother Hikigaya Hachiman. Compared to the cruel things other girls had said to him in the past, Yotsuya Miko's insults didn't hurt at all.

"So where is it?"

Hikigaya looked around. He had already stepped into the trap as the prey, yet the evil spirit hadn't made any move. It was a terrible hunter.

Forget it, he thought.

After observing around without spotting the spirit, Hikigaya Hachiman picked up Yotsuya Miko and prepared to jump down.

Yotsuya Miko didn't struggle against his movements. Instead, she willingly wrapped her arms around his neck.

"What's wrong?"

Noticing that Hikigaya Hachiman had stopped moving, Yotsuya Miko looked up at him, confused.

"No, nothing..."

Hikigaya Hachiman's heart raced, but he remained calm on the outside.

Except for Komachi, this was his first time holding a girl!

The soft sensation in his hands and the fragrance of the girl in his nose were constantly making his nerves jump.

Hikigaya Hachiman forced himself to not think too much as he jumped down from the beam.

Suddenly, a giant spider emerged from the floor of the gymnasium, opening its huge mouth to bite the two of them as they fell rapidly.

"It's become an all-you-can-eat buffet..."

The thought barely crossed Hikigaya's mind before the spider swallowed them both whole.
