Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Steel and Blood
The silence was broken step by step as they approached the massive headquarters of the Brotherhood of Shadows. The headquarters was surrounded by high walls and guarded by dozens of armed guards. But Dante's team was fearless; there was no turning back for them.
Dante led his team into a secret tunnel. This tunnel led to the headquarters' underground storerooms. "Quiet," he whispered, his rifle slung over his shoulder at the ready. "We need to get into position before we fire the first shot."
The interior of the tunnel was dark and cramped. Kaelene gripped her swords tightly as she grunted in boredom. "Quiet's not really my thing, Dante," she sneered.
Dante gave her a brief look. "You'll make enough noise when it's your turn, don't worry."
They finally reached the end of the tunnel. Ryker checked the tunnel exit with his scanner and spoke in a hushed tone. "Two guards are up there. I'll take one, who'll clear the other?"
Kaelene smiled and drew her swords. "Let me handle that."
Dante nodded. "Quick and quiet."
Not a second later, Ryker's silenced rifle made a faint hissing sound and the first guard collapsed. At the same moment, Kaelene, moving almost like a shadow, moved behind the other guard. Her sword silently did its work in a single blow.
"Clear," Kaelene said as she bent over the body.
The group quickly made their way to the warehouse. Here was the Brotherhood of Shadows' stockpile of weapons and explosives.Ryker scanned the crates out of the corner of his eye. "This place is an arsenal. If we blow this place up, we can shut down their operations for weeks."
Dante ordered his team to plant the explosives. But things didn't go as they expected. Just as they were finishing their preparations, the sound of an alarm filled the building.
"Change of plan!" Dante shouted. "Everyone prepare for a firefight!"
The doors swung open and heavily armed guards poured in. Ryker didn't waste a second and fired his first shot. "Come on, Dante! What are we waiting for?"
Kaelene plunged her sword into the stomach of one of the guards, knocking down two more around her in one swift motion. "That's it? The Brotherhood of Shadows is disappointing!" she shouted, a feral smile on her face.
Dante reloaded his weapon as he signalled for the team to retreat. "Ryker, clear the back! Kaelene, clear the way! Explosives active, we've got five minutes!"
Amidst the chaos, the group fought their way through the enemies to the inner areas of the headquarters. But a surprise awaited them: Ravik, the legendary warrior of the Brotherhood of Shadows, stood before them with a giant battle axe.
"Dante Rowe," Ravik said with a dark smile. "I've been waiting for you. It's brave of you to come this far, but this will be the end."
Dante grinned, pointing his rifle at Ravik. "Don't be so sure. We draw our own lines."
Axe and rifle, sword and steel clashed once more. Amid blood, screams and explosions, the real battle was now beginning.
